Sirius-XM Merger, Take 2 - Page 3

The new StarLight Player for the Mac is great. It can now have both Sirius and XM activated at the same time so I can switch between Stern and Cinemagic with ease.
I was totally done with Sirius until I found the gift cards I got from my friend for being the Best Man at his wedding. The new radios are atrocious. I literally have to wrap the shit around my car antenna.

Wonder what is going to happen with Stern, since apparently no matter what happens he is not going to be getting the huge bucks he has been gettig.
Frankly, I thought they were crazy to pay Stern the $100'000'000 to begin with. I just could not see Stern, popular though he is, drawin a big enough crowd to Satellite Radio to justify that amount of money.
I thought Liberty bailed them out?

Either way, this is sort of like the Leykis 97.1 debate in L.A. If only Stern had set his fee aside, if only he was such a supporter.

Stern isn't going anywhere. He's their anchor. If he goes, the ship is loose in troubled waters.

Reading some of the comments on this thread is very funny. You have people who support this merger (huh???) complaining about them raising their fees (like the online stream that was free). How can people be surprised, that's the whole point of eliminating the competition so you as a consumer don't have much of a choice at all.

And stern is really the main draw (anchor?) of satellite radio, if that's the case I do hope they go bankrupt and some other company can pick up the pieces and restart the whole thing.

I used to enjoy my XM subscription, but I really don't think satellite radio is worth $12 a month to be quite honest. The ipod and podcasts made it more irrelevant to me, maybe at a way lower price point I might reconsider.

I think it's worth it vs. payola radio. Which, aside from NPR, is about all you get anymore.

I'd rather pay my fee up front and not deal with commercials every 3 songs.

It's sad that that's what it's come to, but... that's what it's come to.

That's where I'm at. There's so much good free stuff out there, I don't think it makes sense to pay a fee for it. And my damn FM radio might as well be gathering dust. I just can't wait until they finally get car internet radios up and working. Until then, my mp3 player is where it's at.

I enjoy it because it introduces me to new stuff. If I'm using an iPod, I'm only listening to things I'm already aware of. I've disocvered tons of new songs and artists due to XM.

So, tomorrow is that lock-in deadline? Hmmm.

Cinemagic and about twenty other specialty type channels launched yesterday on Sirius. I haven't given the others a listen yet but it's nice to have Cinemagic back.
You got me all pumped, and then I checked, and it's Internet Radio only. That blows.
Oh it is? Damn. I didn't think to check when I was in the car earlier. Sorry about that.
Well, actually, after I posted that, I went out, and sure enough, on my receiver, Cinemagic is listed. However, the song playing when I turned it on was Rapper's Delight, and it played nothing but bad late 70s disco-ey funk every other time I turned it on...

My wife wants Sirius in her car for her birthday. This thread lately is giving me the vibe that its going downhill with programming and bankruptcy etc. Is it worth it or will it be a piece of junk in my wife's car in 6 months?
How long is her daily commute? The monthly cost for a basic package is between 14 and 15 bucks, so, the question you have to ask is "Would I pay 50 cents a day to not hear commercials" for the music stations. There are still commercials on the talk stations, but if you're signing up to listen to Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony you probably aren't gonna care about that. My commute is an hour round trip, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I don't think Sirius/XM is going anywhere any time soon and a unit really costs next-to-nothing.

If you're thinking about it then I don't think you'd be putting yourself out adding Sirius to a car.

You can get Sirius XM on the iphone.

My commute is now 5 minutes. Most of the listening I do is in the mornings while surfing the net and drinking coffee. I called the other day to cancel, since most of what I listen to (Opie and Anthony, Comedy channels) has commercials, and my rate is going up to pay for the music. Not to mention that the CEO just gave himself a 250,000 dollar raise. Also the fact that I just can't afford extra luxuries right now. But they offered me the next three months free, so they have me for a little longer.
Hmm, the canceling to get three months move sounds good. See, my commute is a half hour each way, and I listen to Stern, but I do listen to music also. My player/car stereo were messed up for a month or so, and I just listened to CD's, but once I fixed it, I realized how much I had missed it I guess.

Yeah, I just got the price increase email the other day, too. Lame.

I decided not to reactivate my car subscription when it ended a couple of weeks ago, instead deciding to stream it to my iPhone via Pocket Tunes, which plugs directly into my car's audio (and has the same audible quality as the satellite feed).

I've heard the Sirius App for the iPhone blocks out Howard's stations. Is that true?
Of course it is.

It doesn't block them, they're just not there. Licensing issues. Howard likes to control everything he puts out, and I guess there was something about the app that they couldn't agree on.

Yes. Money.

The sons of bastards are moving CINEMAGIC off the air.  It will be online-only as of July 1.

I HATE.

I wonder if Cinemagic is like some film that everyone that you talk to that has seen it really liked it, but it bombed at the box office.  Sort of like "A Team".  I haven't talked to a single friend that's seen it that didn't love it.  But it bombed.  I love listening to Cinemagic, but it was on Sirius only for like an instant.  I guess if I really want to listen in the car, I'll be spending some data plan time on it.
