The jam band channel WHERE THEY PLAY GRATEFUL DEAD? Eff that noise. If you have a channel just for one band, DON'T PLAY THEM ELSEWHERE.

They do the same thing with Eminem-- they were playing him on Hiphop Nation at the same time he was on his own channel.

DAMNIT.
Eminem's channel is stuff that he likes and "programmed by him", not a channel dedicated to his music.

I understand that, but I don't really care. Keep him on his channel.

Lame. This takeover gets less cool the more I learn about it.
What in the fuck are they doing to Lithium? I'm all for expanding play lists, but playing more shitty Filter, Matchbox 20, and SEAL (motherfucking Seal?!!?) on a station dubbed "Seattle's Soundtrack" is depressing.
The kids music station now has commercials and moronic deejays. Which sucks.
And I'm not afraid to say I miss Movin EZ, my source for Carpenters, Carly Simon, Air Supply and Barry Manilow. I also miss BoomBox, my source for cheesy mash-ups.
At least they kept Outlaw Country, DeepTrax seems better than the Vault and I dig the 50's and 40's stations. Now if they could just up the horror/sci-fi content on RadioClassics...
Outlaw Country took over our (XM's) X-Country, which was maybe a little more rockin', but I haven't compared it at length yet.

Deep Tracks is a good station, and they kept ol' Earl Bailey from XM. If you're a new listener from Sirius, try and catch Tom Petty's show on there. Always entertaining.
It's got Earle Bailey? He's an old Philly DJ. He and ClassicRewind's Michael Tearson are both from WMMR.

I thought I was the only douchebag that felt that way. Fuck the 40s.
Screw XM. It did away with Fungus. Screw Sirius. It did away with whatever their Fungus equivalent was. And what did they replace it with? 24/7 AC/DC. Now, I dig the band, but, c'mon, how's a small town guy supposed to keep up with his punk rock? And don't even mention Faction. The only thing tolerable about Bam Margera and his crew is my inexhorable desire to punch them repeatedly in the face. Although, having come from the XM side of things, I'm totally digging Little Steven's Underground Garage, as well as the First Wave.
Man, I loved HEE HAW HELL whenever I'd catch it (Thursday afternoons, maybe?) on Fungus.

The AC/DC channel is only temporary. It's supposed to end on 1/15/09, and then I think they're bringing in XM's BONEYARD on 53. I'd prefer that they use the channel for something more diverse... but that doesn't seem to be their game. Ugh.
I'm having a difficult time recognizing the difference between Sirius' metal stations now.

They tinkered a bit with the jazz and classical stations, and they seem lacking in a weird way now.
All these play list changes are driving me nuts. Expand the music for what the station is, don't completely change the station people! I can see why Sirius' stock is going the wrong direction fast. I'm going to look into the Top 50 stations packages pretty soon. I used to be able to turn on Lithium or the Rock station (now the AC/DC station) and hear good music all day. Now I hear Duran Duran on an alternative station?

I wish I'd hear Duran Duran. Everytime I flip on Alt Nation or Lithium, I hear either Coldplay or Fall Out Boy. Yep, that's what I'm paying for: Coldplay or Fall Out Boy. Sigh.
I heard Coldplay on Lithium this morning...and Seal again? And then...Dave fuckinggoddamn Matthews?
Well, we got some good news a day or so ago. They're resurrecting Backspin (the old school hiphop station from Sirius) and some disco channel. I don't care about the latter, but the loss of The Rhyme was my main complaint, so this should be a decent fix. It's scheduled to come back on 1/15, which should be a good day-- also the return of Cinemagic and The Boneyard!
Cinemagic? I've somehow completely missed that one. But Boneyard and Backspin return! That's great news. Now I just wish they would remove the shit off the 90s Alt station, get rid of all AC/DC station, and keep the all Zep station, and I might not cancel after the New Year.

Cinemagic is the movie scores channel that has been MIA since the overhaul. I'll be on 76. Hopefully they don't screw it up after this hiatus.

The AC/DC station goes away on 1/15 when Boneyard reclaims its spot.

Not sure when the Zep channel ends, but it's also temporary, I think.
So Cinemagic lasted all of 5 days on Sirius only to be replaced by a continuous loop announcing a return of the disco channel. WHAT. THE. FUCK.
They took it off? Huh?

It sounded like shit on sirius anyway. I don't know the technical details, but I hear blatant compression artifacts all over the place when compared to Cinemagic on XM.

I thought it was supposed to come back on the 15th, but maybe I forgot the date? They'd better not be sacrificing it for the return of that damned disco channel...
I e-mailed Sirius on the issue and of course got an automated response. First the Punk Channel goes kaput, and now this tease.

I did the same thing. As of last night and this morning, though, Cinemagic seems to be alive and well on XM76. I heard Robocop and Robocop II on the way to work this morning!
Hmm...must be an issue solely with Sirius then. I hope they're simply working out the bugs or Cinemagic is just moving to a different channel. Hearing The Last Starfighter followed by Predator made my day Monday.
Do they still have the Underground Garage?

Just sort of curious-- I had Sirius for about a year (but started taking public transportation to work, so I drive a lot less), and our DirecTV had XM when I first got it, and they're now shuffling stuff around between XM and Sirius, but the stuff they tend to make available is the most obvious and generic stations.

Yes, XM59. Not sure where it is on Sirius. Pretty good channel!

Are you still getting it? Because I have no idea where/if they moved it on Sirius. Which pisses me off. However, it does appear that they brought back Backspin--it's now under the "Pop2K" channel, at least on Sirius. I have an N.W.A. search, and it hadn't gone off in forever. Then suddenly last week, it was going off almost every time I got in my car.

Yeah, Cinemagic is back for good on XM76. Sounds like they may have yanked it from Sirius, though? Craptacular!

I'm enjoying Backspin very much.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this...but XM Radio Online...which used to be free with your subscription, will no longer be free as of March 11th. They're upgrading to "near cd-quality digital sound", and are going to start charging an extra 2.99/month to listen online.

I'm considering canceling my subscription over this nonsense.
Yeah I'm getting very close to canceling my Sirius subscription. The playlists on the stations I enjoy are getting worse daily, and now I can listen to Slacker radio at work, so it defeats the need for Sirius there. I got an email telling me that I need to lock in prices for a year or get charged an extra $8/month for having a second account. I'm guessing I'll just keep the one in my car.
Ha, what a way to screw the folks who supported the merger. I had both XM (car) and Sirius (work). After the merger I cancelled Sirius as I can't get a reception in my new office at work. I was expecting this big fight to try and keep me and all I got was "Ok, no problem". While I was glad there was no hassle they didn't even try and offer me anything or make it worth my while to stay. I was going to get another XM radio but now that they're raising the second unit fee I may back off. The second unit price alone doesn't piss me off as much as the charging for online. Thats just stupid. And what a dick way to get around the "we won't raise prices when we merge" argument. Idiots.
It was less a merger and more like Sirius acquiring XM, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're just phasing the XM brand out of the picture.
I've been a huge supporter of Sirius since the beginning, but the internet fee is a fucking joke. I thought about it; fuck'm, I'm done.

Ugh-- I figured that was coming. I actually haven't been able to get it to work since the merger, and hadn't bothered to call and ask why yet. Sucky.
I did some reading about the online stream. Found out some info that might be helpful to some people. The free online stream ends on march 11th, and it will become an added 2.99/month if wanted. But the 2.99/month only takes effect on your NEXT renew date. So, if you recently renewed your contract...then it wont take effect til its time to renew again. So you're kinda grandfathered into the free online, atleast until your next renew date.
They also said that those with "lifetime" memberships will also last until their unit fails or whatever; not sure how you can't just use the internet forever without purchasing a new unit.

I'm month-to-month, but I was just thinking about that aspect.
Yeah if you're on a lifetime membership you wont have to worry about having to start paying for the online. Also, you can get an online-only membership...for 7.99/month, though I think that's hardly worth it when a normal membership is only 12.99/month and includes the online.
I just renewed my subscription and the person said that by doing it before whatever cut-off date (I wasn't even aware of all this going on, I just had to renew because my two years were up) I get to keep my streaming internet for free.

The lifetime memberships are just like Tivo lifetime--for the lifetime of the unit. They've always been that way, which is why I've never purchased one. The online thing starts on 3/11, and if you renew before then, the online is still free until that renewal period is over, the way I understand it. I go quarterly, so if I renew now, I'll start paying the 2.99 online fee after another 3 months. I used the online mostly for work, but being unemployed for 3 months, I haven't used it nearly as much. I'm anxious to see when I start my new job on Monday, if A) Stilleto 100 will work at the new office, and B) if not, can I get the online service there. Sometimes you get lucky and there's a terrestrial repeater nearby, which means you don't need the antenna pointing outside. Hell, at my old office, there was one spot in the building where I could point my headphone antenna out the window of the big boss's office, and get a signal with no problem, so I sat in the cube right outside his office.

The New York Times reports that the satellite radio company Sirius XM has hired advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing within the next few days. With $5 billion in assets, Sirius XM's would be the second-largest Chapter 11 filing of 2009. Service is unlikely to be interrupted, but the company may need to terminate pricey contracts with on-air talent like Howard Stern (who was paid $100 million per year) and Martha Stewart.
I had heard rumors about this. This is why I've been reluctant to buy into the service. However, I can't imagine someone isn't going to pick this up and continue running it.

Charlie Ergan from Dish Network has apparently been buying up their debt, possibly in an attempt to buy the company (which he tried to do a few years back, but I think Sirius turned him down). Dish uses the Sirius music channels on their satellite channels already. I still think it's a viable business, it was just hugely expensive to start up. They have the 2nd largest subscriber base in the US, just behind Comcast. As with most businesses, the timing of the economy's shitting the bed just doesn't help their situation. If they cut Stern's contract, then they're truly dead. He's probably the main reason Sirius actually caught up to and surpassed XM in subscribers. I actually picked up Sirius for the NFL originally, and if they fold, I CANNOT go back to terrestrial radio.
This article says that shareholders have more to worry about than subscribers, that the service will continue in some form.

Hard to believe this is trading at six cents a share!
These days it seems like everyone I talk to has Sirius XM in some form - whether it be in the car or at home - and the company just keeps sliding towards bankruptcy and massive restructuring. At this point, the iPhone application that people are hoping help boost it's profile seems to be too little too late.
Poor car sales aren't helping, since that's where they used to count on getting a lot of their new subscribers.

Bob Kraft (owner of the New England Patriots, among other things) commented that in this economy, no one is giving credit to anyone, even businesses that show massive profits, and that's the biggest problem. Kraft said lots of companies have been coming to them asking for help getting credit, so I'm assuming Sirius was one of them.

Liberty Media bails out Sirius-XM.

And holy crap, are the Braves fans here pissed (Liberty also owns the Braves).
