I know there's been some chatter over this movie, which sounds pretty odd. The trades keep describing it as a mixture of puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism, and also with bits of "Sin City" in there. Ron Perleman has just signed to be the bad guy, and the other cast includes Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Kevin McKidd and Jordi Molla.

Hartnett is playing some kung-fu fighting drifter who teams with a samurai, and Perleman is playing a drug lord. It's still early, and a lot of information hasn't been released yet, but this sounds like it will be catnip for some of you, and maybe me too. Any thoughts on this so far?

I don't know what to make of the trailer. At all. Are they in a pop-up book? Demi Moore? Looks very much like the recent Frank Miller cinematic offerings or a more Noir-ish THE WARRIOR'S WAY. Or SUCKER-PUNCH meets KILL BILL meets DICK TRACY (WTF was I talking about again?).

In a world without guns, a mysterious drifter (Josh Hartnett) walks into a strange town terrorized by the ruthless Nicola (Ron Perlman) and his army of thugs, headed by nine deadly assassins. The drifter is forced to trust a young samurai (Gackt) looking to restore his family's honor, and the local bartender (Woody Harrelson) who has been secretly awaiting a dream team to help overthrow Nicola’s tyrannical regime.

This is more in line with THE SPIRIT, btw.

I actually had a slight soft spot for The Spirit. Your mileage may vary.

This is better than that, because it has some decent martial arts. But yes, THE SPIRIT, in essence.

I believe it's On-Demand currently.

When one of your cast members is named after a Jack Kirby sound effect, I'm there.

Gakt being in this movie is sort of a WTF moment for me. It's like "Moon Child" revisited.
