...some dvd thoughts from paul:

Little Boston News is…..

happy the dvd’s out…and done….we hope you enjoy it. Something we want to recommend: Play All on the extras is best……hopefuly it plays as a unified piece, that was the idea anyway….ok for now.

We know packaging can be delicate if not handled right…so be careful. It’s better than plastic, right?

Bluuu-Ray????!?!? Apparently mid June. It’s done and sitting somewhere. Can’t wait for that.

Nice to know its sitting somewhere in the Paramount offices, instead of in my PS3.

As has been said in Blu-Ray thread I'm a bit miffed they didn't tell us before the standard DVD came out that we'd be getting the Blu-Ray so soon. They clearly already had it in production at that time, and they could have already made their Blu-Ray announcement.

In regards to the DVD: "not handled right" pretty much says it all.

I am so very happy I waited.

Yep. I won't buy another dvd for this very reason. I'll just netflix until the Blu version hits.

That plastic argument is so stupid. They do know what DVDs are made of, right?

I am confused. I am working on next week's Special Edition and Amazon has There Will be Blood Blu-ray listed for next Tuesday, not mid-June.

Amazon's wrong. It's still June 3rd.

Near as I can tell, when Paramount made their Blu-Ray announcement they insinuated that There Will Be Blood would be out on the 20th, then when the press release for the release itself came out it said the 3rd. So, Amazon probably hasn't updated their info correctly.

So, that is for Cloverfield too I assume. Good to know before I wrote it

I'm surprised this is getting a hi-def release considering the film didn't play in digital at all during its theatrical run.

All the more reason to get it on blu-ray I suppose.

I'd say the majority of films on blu-ray didn't play in digital in their theatrical runs.

There's always an HD master on an HD-CAM or HD-SR floating around somewhere, even if the film is colored photochemically. These days SD DVD's are normally mastered from this element.

I just got word that I should be getting my review copy on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Wooo.
Well that's good news.

Amazon finally updated to Jun 3rd.

Dammit, and I was hoping the mistake would mean us getting it early. Oh well, I'll have Master and Commander to tide me over until then.

It looks great. I'm almost scared I'm missing something here because I can't find anything wrong with the transfer.

I can't wait for this. Coming from Amazon soon, I hope. Is the transfer on par with No Country's? Because that transfer is the best I've seen on the format.

I would call it the best looking Blu-Ray released. After watching TWBB in 1080, I went back to spot-check it against the level of clarity on No Country, Lost: Season 3 and CE3K.

TWBB is the best I've seen.

That's crazy. I didn't think anything would look better than No Country. I mean, that movie looks better than Planet Earth, for cryin' out loud.

Mmmmm, reference quality. Music to my eyes and ears.

Yeah, nothing has beat No Country on Blu-ray. That disc had a wow factor I haven't experienced since popping the Matrix into my "new" DVD player way back in 99.

Can't wait to compare.

The opening didn't seal the deal for me. But, watch the move from the quail hunt with H.W. to meeting the Sundays to the first full shot of New Boston during the early morning.

It's a little early to call something the disc of the year, but in terms of A/V Quality...this is the one to beat.

My TV is only 42 inches, but I think I'd stick it just above No Country as well.

Listen up Amazon, get my copy to me NOW!

I cannot wait to see this again, especially considering the theater I went to caught on fire and I missed a good 15 minutes of the middle after they re-seated everyone.

Those Amazon jackasses mailed mine from Kansas instead of Arizona, so I'll be lucky if I get mine before the end of the week. That'll teach me to actually give them money for shipping.

I bought CASINO ROYALE instead of this yesterday. I'm a pretty weak man.

Well you did buy Casino Royale though (blu ray hopefully), so you're just weak.

God I want this disc too. Won't be able to till August.

Thank god for Blu-Ray. I feel like I'm watching this film anew. Incredible detail; easily on par with No Country's transfer, if slightly better.
