The serious tone of the lead-in music kills me.

The description to the right of the video says something like "Bush tells how he gave up golf because of the Iraq war." I stopped the video after I read that, I was just functionally unable to deal with what I was about to see.

I was afraid of that. Well, here's the text version. Doesn't have the same bite (The Politico guy was taking that question very seriously), but the joke remains the same.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0508/10314.html

For the first time, Bush revealed a personal way in which he has tried to acknowledge the sacrifice of soldiers and their families.

“I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” he said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

Bush said he made that decision after the August 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, which killed Sergio Vieira de Mello, the top U.N. official in Iraq and the organization’s high commissioner for human rights.

“I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life,” he said. “I was playing golf — I think I was in central Texas — and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, ‘It's just not worth it anymore to do.’"

That's some hard-hitting journalism right there. I'd like to think that was the best question he came up with the night before.

The rest of the interview was equally laden with awesome:

Quote:
President Bush warned in an interview Tuesday that the Democratic presidential candidates' plans to withdraw abruptly from Iraq could "eventually lead to another attack on the United States" and would "embolden" terrorists.

In a White House interview with Politico and Yahoo News — a president's first for an online audience — Bush said his doomsday scenario for a premature withdrawal “of course is that extremists throughout the Middle East would be emboldened, which would eventually lead to another attack on the United States."

"The United States pulling out of Iraq or pulling out of the Middle East or not maintaining a forward presence would send all kinds of signals throughout the Middle East," he said in the Roosevelt Room. "And it would shake everybody's nerves, and it would embolden the very same people that we're trying to defeat.

No. Really. This is a serious question. See how serious he is? It's the Yahoo headline for God's sake.

Oh, sweet Jesus. That turns the Daily Show into a beacon of journalism.

You mean it wasn't Michael Moore, repeating on a loop, that footage of Bush saying "Now watch this drive!" that did it?

The best part about that interview is the fact that there's a clip of Bush doing an impression of Dr. Evil.

I don't if I'm crying because I'm laughing so hard, or just because I'm watching mainstream journalism swirling the bowl right before it goes down the drain.

Not to mention the fact that Bush started having knee problems around the time he quit golf "for the war." Convenient, huh? His one "sacrifice" isn't even a sacrifice.

Right after Bush did that, I wish Allan would've pushed ahead.

"Very funny Mr. President, well done sir. Now, moving on to the controversy surrounding the suspension of habeas corpus..."

Watch Olberman freak the hell out over this.

Any chance of that being posted on a different site? The streaming video from the main news sites is always blocked here at work...

ETA - Nevermind, found it on Crooks and Liars.

2nd Edit - Nevermind again...they've finally started blocking that one, too. I'll just check this out later.

There are few people in this world I'd want to shake hands with more than Olbermann.

That's it, I'm going to follow in your president's example and forsake handjobs for oral sex...as I'm sure that Bush finds war as entertaining as any other leisurely activity, when he's moving those chess pieces on a map like he (probably) played Risk in elementary school.

EDIT: I am not sure if this metaphor works, as my work break is quickly ending...
