Ladies and gentleman, the best "Obama forward" to date!

This deserves its own thread. Holy shit. The quote about the song is hysterical.

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no
longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate
Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he
doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is
played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36,
Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national
anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except
those in uniform are expected to stand at attention
facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.
Those in Uniform are required to Salute.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be
perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a
lot of people in the world to whom the American flag
is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem
itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs
bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for
something less parochial and less bellicose. I like
the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.'
If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our
next president. I, for once, am speechless . .

Type that quote into Google and see how many people actually believe Obama said, "I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'" This forward is going everywhere right now.

I'm so glad that we're discussing the important issues when selecting a new President.

Come on, Greg. It's this kind of stuff that helps us determine whether he's fit to answer the phone at 3am. If we didn't worry so over his attire and stance during the anthem, we might let a closet radical Mulism terrorist into the most powerful office in the world!

In fairness, the pro-Senator Obama movement has its own share of crazies. Here's one I just got from one of the list serves I subscribe to:

"Power concedes nothing without a fight. It never has. It never will."

---Frederick Douglass

Tell Obama's Secret Service detail, it's time to go to DEFCON 1 or whatever they call their highest level of protection, and stay there.

These are tense times and when Obama wins in November, times will be tense for the next eight years.

This country has a long history of killing movements by killing movement leaders.

This is still the United States, land where people will kill anyone to get things their way.

When we add those people who insist on having their greed and power to the crazy bigots and just plan crazies, Obama's Secret Service detail has much work to do.

Think about these three reasons. Then make your own list.

1. Too many people have too much invested in continuing Bush's policies. The need to continue greed and power is everything to some people.

2. The fact that Obama is often compared to the assassinated Kennedy brothers. That alone is enough to give many nut cases ideas.

3. Obama's race. Race will always be an issue with people who don't believe their own families' DNA reports.

Obama has the potential and the tools needed to do much more good for this country than JFK ever thought about doing.

The problem facing him is those people who do not want that good to be done.

The Republican greed and power machine is fighting for its very existence.

They know they can not win on the issues.

They know their scare-the-voters routine is not working this time.

They are groping for new strategies.

If they can't find a winning formula, all they have left is desperate measures.

They will not go away quietly.

They will fight with the weapons they have.

What kind of weapons?

Then think about John McCain.

Take a close look at the way he is campaigning.

John McCain is in the most important political race in the world.

But he's just grinning and waving his arms.

There is a rumor that he is what the "Old Souls" call Feeble Minded.

He is easily agitated.

He flip-flops.

He forgets his lines.

He does not seem to have people rehearsing him.

Someone is always correcting him.

Someone is always catching him in a lie.

He doesn't seem to care.

Maybe his behavior is like Charlton Heston in that Ben-Hur chariot race. Heston knew he was going to win the race. He knew the race was rigged for him to win. He just had to hold on and he'd win.

McCain is not displaying maverick behavior.

He is not campaigning like an inept bungler.

He's campaigning like a man who believes the fix is in.

McCain told the National Rifle Association that Obama would take their weapons away.

That's a lie but some weapons lovers are bound to believe it.

Add that to Mike Huckabee's gun joke in front of the National Rifle Association.

Face the Nation got it exactly right saying, "Huckabee made an assassination joke that defied explanation"

Other media outlets said, "This is not like any other joke."

Huckabee knows he is speaking to weapons lovers --- not just guns but weapons of all kinds.

Both men were not there to ask the NRA to wish Obama good health.

Put Huckabee's no-so-funny joke in the context of:

The three reasons listed above

The Republican greed and power machine's desperation

McCain's sloppy campaigning

Both McCain and Huckabee's NRA Convention antics

and ask yourself:

What will the Republican greed and power machine do?

What will be the intended or unintended consequences of McCain and Huckabee's behavior?

What, if any, suggestions were both McCain and Huckabee offering to the weapons lovers?

Will McCain's lie about Obama taking the NRA's guns away be regarded by someone as a suggestion?

Will Huckabee's gun joke be regarded by someone as a suggestion?

Do both McCain and Huckabee already know something that we'll never know?

Did McCain know he was deliberately planting the seeds of hate?

Did Huckabee let what he was thinking slip?

The obvious answers are:

We don't know.

But this we do know:

When is a joke not a joke?

When it's a warning.

If Obama, or any member of his family, gets so much as a hangnail, his supporters all over the world would not want to hear the Secret Service say, "We did the best we could."

The Secret Service knows exactly what to do to keep them safe.

Are they doing all that can be done?

They should be.

They know:

Power concedes nothing without a fight. It never has. It never will.

Sorry, is it really in the american constitution that people have to stand to attention and place thier hands over their hearts when theres a flag and an anthem?

Really?

Cause the only other people that placed their hands over their hearts in honour of their country were the Romans and the only other regime to give the Roman salute were the seig heil crowd.

If thats true thats serious jackboot shit

Not true at all.

In my native country we did the same, with a variation. Women did the hand over their hearts (palm flat against it, like in the US) while men do the "military salute" just over their hearts too (not their foreheads).

So for me, you all do the women's version of this.

Nope, it isn't, but that doesn't really matter. I remember back in high school as a simple act of rebellion I didn't stand up and place my hand over my heart for the stupid pledge of allegiance, and I got detention (not suspended for once...) for it. Bunch a bullshit, but then again, our schools aren't exactly known for supporting free speech.

Shouldn´t people that believe the bullshit that they get via spam and take them as political information at face value loose their right to loose, and breathe maybe, in the first place? One should expect that mature and responsible people would at least know the basics of fact checking. But it seems that people that believe this are just reaffirming their own talking points.
And it would explain why viagra shills make money over the internet.
