Movie Tavern at Northlake

Went to see a flick at the new Movie Tavern in Tucker. The theater serves food and beer. We caught a matinee screening at 3:15 p.m. for $5 tickets, which isn't too bad. I'd say the food is about on par with an Applebees as far as price/quality goes (and I'm not a fan of chain restaurants). Still, it's nice to have the option.

I wish I had looked at the prices for beer and wine (they do serve alcohol there). All I really looked at were the soft drink prices, which were WAY overpriced. A medium coke was $4. Considering the basket o' chicken tenders and fries I bought was $8, that's a little steep.

On the bright side, the screen was large, the seats were comfy, there was plenty of leg room, and the staff were very friendly. At the moment, I think they're just showing current films. I hope they'll branch out and do some niche programming in the future, but considering the location I'm not going to hold my breath.

Here's the Web site for the tavern.

Not too far from me. Thanks for the heads up.

We've had Movie Taverns here for a while in TX. In fact the original is right down the street from me. My favorite is the one near Hulen Mall in Ft. Worth. You can watch the movie in comfy office chairs instead of airline seats. Nice!

I will say that it would be nice if the ones around here had digital projection but what can you do?

Second visit report: we saw Indiana Jones at the Movie Tavern for the midnight show. Not a full house, but fairly close. Again, the staff were nice to a fault. It seemed like every employee that saw us welcomed us, said they hoped we would enjoy the film, and asked us to come back. And not in an obnoxious way.

I still think the drink prices are way too high, but then I guess that's where the biggest profit margin exists. At any rate, I hope the theater does well, because both visits were pleasant experiences. And when the full price for a movie ticket is $7, it's hard to complain.

Wow!!

This sounds really great!! I'm from good ole Carrollton, Ga. and we don't have anything near as cool out here. That's not too far to drive. I'll have to check it out. THANKS!!

I wish I had a similarly positive experience to report. I was excited to see that the place was opening, so we went to see Speed Racer on opening weekend. The staff was great, the price was great, but the film presentation was sorely lacking. Maybe they left the lights on too bright or maybe they are using old equipment, but for a movie as dayglow as Speed Racer, the print we saw was dull and dark. The food was pretty laughable--in fact we've been reminiscing none-too-fondly about the pizza for 2 weeks.

I'm definitely going to try it again. It's the cheapest ticket in town and I want the concept to work, I just don't think I'll go there looking for dinner and a movie.

Is AMC Buckhead Backlot still open?

Anybody remember what the beer prices were like?

Well, I know it's probably not near anyone else, but I'm excited because they just built and opened a brand new AMC theater off Exit 13 on Ga. 400. That's closer than the theaters at Northpoint and Medlock Bridge to me. Woo hoo!

Wait, is this where they used to have the AMC Northlake 8?

In any event, this is really close to my house and it sounds like it's worth checking out.

It's closed for remodeling, but it's due to re-open in July.

Yes. Between this and the Marlow's Tavern going into the new Doubletree, there might actually be some decent places to have a few drinks around my house.

What did you do?

Cool.

I hope to check this place out in the next week or so. I'll get back with my experience.

I think it was $3.75 for a beer. I don't remember what the selection was like.
