Yeah, this is the impression I'm getting as well. At first I thought there might some nefarious purpose to the Observers, but now I think they're supposed to be some kind of universal watchers of realities or something like that.

Hey, does anyone else think that the ZFT manifesto was written by Walter#2 in the alternate dimension? Maybe it's been mentioned before so, if so I apologize.

Thanks to the good folks in this thread, I've developed an interest in this show - specifically the idea of this 'ZFT' and the notion of a dual universe. I caught the first few eps, and thanks to the recommendations here, tracked down the last two to watch.

Based on this, here's some idle speculation from someone who has very little idea what he's talking about (swipe to read):

I believe that you're right, and that 'Walter 2' (the one whose child was stolen/taken/rescued/liberated/whatever) wrote the manifesto, intent on rallying people to a cause that is fundamentally about regaining his son, or revenging his loss, but is also about the resources (in land, in fuel, in manpower, in everything) that an alternate Earth would provide and the threat that an alternate Earth might attack them first (which he can justify in part, by pointing to the taking of his son).

If this is true (and I'm woefully out of the loop on this season, but have been reading about the 'mythology' casually) he's fomenting terrorism for a personal reason, and justifying it with universally-appealing rhetoric.

We know that Bell and Walter both could have typed the manifesto, since the 'quirky y' in the typeface indicates it was typed on Walter's typewriter. But I believe this to be a distractor, meant to make us think that 'this' universe's Bell/Walter composed it. In actuality, I think the manifesto crossed over from the other side as propaganda, or a kind of religious/political text to be carried by soldiers. All this talk of 'intruders' in the manifesto seems to suggest that the intruders in question are Bell1 and Walter1, or were enabled by them.

It won't be this clear cut and defined, but from the sounds of it, Fringe may be, in part, a loose allegory of the US/Iraq conflict.

Glad you are tentatively on board Jesse. I'd love to hear your feedback if/when you watch the whole season. But you should definitely join in the fun once Season 2 starts.

That's some interesting speculation. It would add an extra layer to Walter's fear of travelling between worlds. But how would the manifesto make it to Earth Prime? Maybe Bell picked up a copy and was all "Walter, check this shit out!"?

Thanks, Diva. Not sure when the DVDs come out but I'll be renting them. There's enough Lost-ish mythology being set up here to make things potentially interesting for season 2. Look forward to talking about it.

I actually had the same ideas lingering in my head ever since the Peter reveal.

Walter #2 is most likely the "villain", but the ramifications behind the why and how he did it is pure speculation ( the ZFT thing). We know about his son, an that's about it. What Jesse wrote is pretty much the logical follow-up to the theory. And why is Bell hiding in the other universe if we're at war with them?

I remember Noble being awesome as Denethor, so bring me crazy evil Walter!

I just watched the pilot. As Kirby said it's not the perfect pilot but I enjoyed it, even the lead actress. I was a fan for the X-files and Alias, and the brief look at the later post who loved the finale says I will catch the entire run soon.
