Wii Fit

So, any of you fatties buying this? We're supposed to be picking it up today. I'm preparing to be underwhelmed, but with Nintendo, you never know.

Getting mine today as well. I hope it's not collecting dust by Sunday.

During lunch, I went to the house, and my Wii Fit package had arrived. I took it inside . . . then promptly went to lunch at Krystals.

I'm doomed.

Got mine at lunch. Hope to check it out late tonight after the Lakers game.

The Gizmodo review was rather favorable. I'd like to see some fun, regular games released for it (I don't know that Wii Ski qualifies) before buying it, though.

Posted this over on Engadget.

I guess if you have the physique of an alien or that of a danish roll then I could see how this would help. But, why not get a workout DVD or higher a trainer.

However, the balance board should be very fun for games that will take advantage of an extra input. I can see racing games, shooters, etc.

I look forward to games that will work with this. I just hope this doesn't end up more like a gimmick.

Basically, people are saying that the workout interface isn't designed very well and you have to stop often and pickup the remote to do more workouts. And that's pretty much a killer for any type of cardio routine, pacing.
I tested it for a little while at Best Buy on Monday. I didn't feel like trying out the aerobic routines in public, but the balance exercises (I tried the tightrope & the ski jump) were pretty fun.

I get an idiotic kick out of seeing my miis in these games. It's cheap, but seeing Edgar Allen Poe and Joey Ramone jog past me, or seeing a soccer team that includes Chuck Norris, Jesus Christ, and ALF is pretty amusing. I'm easy, I guess.

I'm guessing having a trainer might run me more than 90 bucks?

Besides, Wii Fit isn't the end-all be-all, it's basically a gateway for slobs to start thinking about exercise. I set it up yesterday, and enjoyed it. This morning, I woke up thinking about doing torso twists for the first time ever. That's a good thing.

Granted, the taut, toned Adonises of the CHUD Forums might not get much use out of it, but so far, this tub of goo is having fun and actually giving a crap about his health after 33 years of neglect. Hopefully this enthusiasm will extend to a third day.

I fooled around with it last night for about half an hour and managed to work up a decent sweat. I tried the hula-hoop, stepping, & running along with a few balance exercise. I wouldn't use this as my only form of exercise (if I wasn't overweight that might be an option), but it's a fun supplement that I can do after work before my wife gets home.

Yes, I do feel a bit silly, even though I'm having fun.

Yeah, I was thinking a couple of sessions with a trainer to get you started.

And I guess it would be perfect for someone trying to develop some momentum and self esteem to get into a healthy mindset.

Definitely. Wii Fit is a misleading title, it's more like Wii Get-Off-Your-Ass.

I prefer "Wii F-it"

I've still got to go by Gamestop and pick mine up (thought my wife was picking it up last week). Sending my Wii off today to have it fixed for the Smash Bros. problem, so there's not an urgency on my part to pick it up yet.

I've stuck with it, and so far I've lost a couple of pounds and I'm really sore. I also have cut down my pizza intake. I didn't do anything on Monday . . . It was strange feeling guilty as the talking balance board icon asked me why I took the day off.

I remember a rep for Nintendo saying that the main goal for Wii Fit was "to make people aware of their body," and in that sense, it succeeds.

I had some Wii-less friends over for Memorial Day and they tried it out. After the horror of finding her Body Age, she took to the yoga, as that's something she does regularly, and was inpressed with the posses, commenting that she the holds on the poses are longer than she does in her classes.

It was almost enough for them to go out and buy one, but not quite.

In that case I'm waiting for Wi-Fwap.

Basically it's a realistic magic mirror. Nice.

You know what they should have available? When you weigh yourself, you should have the option to apply that weight (with your entered height) to your Mii and the Mii adjusts it's body size accordingly. So when/if you lose weight, your Mii actually gets skinnier.
That's actually a great idea. I wouldn't have played Wii Bowling as much if I didn't strive to get the bowling ball with the stars on it.

That option is available. When I was first weighed, it adjusted the size of my Mii accordingly, changing my happy-go-lucky stick figure into a happy-go-lucky fatass.

I have the shameful distinction of not being able to *play* with my Wii Fit until I drop another 3 or 4 pounds.

Still, it's motivation. I want to hit soccer balls with my Mii-head.

Cool! I should write video games!

So, I show up to GS to get my WiiFit...and they don't have it. The guy says they were told by their corporate office that, if the pre-order person hadn't shown up 48 hours after they were contacted, then they can sell the system. And of course, they're very short-stocked. The guy apologizes like 5 times, takes my name and number and tells me they'll make a priority to contact me when they get more in. At the moment, it doesn't bother me because I just sent my Wii back to get the Smash Bros. Brawl issue fixed, so I'm without a system for a week or two. But when I get it back, if they still haven't gotten me a copy, I'm raising hell. No one told my wife when she put down the deposit that they would sell the game if we didn't come pick it up within X days/hours.

Beyond that, I picked up a copy of GHIII (that I have to return because it's screwing up on me), and a copy of "Superbad" on BR used for $16.
I think the 48 hour hold is the standard for all Gamestop preorders. I know everytime I preorder from GS/EB, I get that automated phone call the day before the game is released, and that always says that you only have 2 days to pick it up.

I look at it this way--my life isn't any emptier right now without it. Granted, they have my $$ and I have no game, but I can't play it right now anyway. If I don't get something soon, I'll just ask for my pre-order money back.

If this girl comes with the game, I'm sold!

Going to pick it up today. They called Monday and said they've got a copy in for me.

She's you girlfriend?! You are one lucky dude.
No, that's not my girlfriend, but when I showed the video to my wife, she giggled and gave it a shot herself. Whee!!!
Did she strip to her undies? Pics or it didn't happen!
Yeah, I'd be dead if I did that.
So, discussion in this thread pretty much died.

If you're like me, you kept up with Wii Fit regularly until you took two days' off . . . Then Lego Indy came and you haven't gone back to it.

The good thing is, I've eaten a LOT less fast food since I bought it . . . Unfortunately, my exercise hasn't increased.

Is anybody else out there failing the Wii Fit Challenge?
It's helped me step up my current program a little, being something to supplement at home if it's late and I don't want to go to the gym. It keeps me aware of when I start slipping. My wife uses it practically every day.

Now that the board's out there. Someone actually needs to develop better software. The Wii Fit is too fragmented, and doesn't let you pre-program a set of exercises. They just dump a bunch of exercises in front of you and say "have at it." It's fine if you're self-directed enough, but I don't see why a true results-driven "game" couldn't be developed. And there's tons more exercises they could've included.
I finally got to mess around with one at a friend's place over the weekend. Pretty neat. My BMI was fine, but I screwed up the balance part bigtime, and ended up with a Fit Age of 58! (Hint, don't tip over during that part of the test)

I rocked the Hula Hooping pretty well, though. 210 points on my second try.

My first Wii Age was 31 (I'm 39), and when I did my latest one, I also couldn't balance correctly and ended up with a Wii age of 49.

I had lost 3.7 lbs since the last time I checked in, though. The ski jump is pretty fun, and the soccer ball thing is tough.
I got far enough to unlock the rhythm boxing, which I enjoyed ... the jogging-in-place game is quite relaxing as well. I didn't realize how winded I was until the jog was over.

The balancing stuff is surprisingly hard ... If you click on the balance board in the background on the menu screen that shows the different training categories, it will take you to the Ultimate Balance Test. I didn't realize how much of a challenge it was to stand perfectly still.
The balance games annoy me with their difficulty, and I find it hard not to cheat (I can stand on the board and put my hands on the ceiling to maintain almost perfect balance).

The rhythm boxing is the most difficult and best workout of the entire game.
