Well I would love to join in your excitment but we kind of already have the directors cut and it's part of a better edition. There has been a canadian 3 disc version out there with the directors cut verson on it for years now. Compare to the 3 disc this 2 disc kind of sucks. It clearly has less extras.

Yes I know it's not technically a US release, it's canadian but it's region 1 and super easy to get anywhere.

Yep, I've had the 3-disc for a while now. Good movie. I've actually passed it around to a few friends and they've all enjoyed it.
I doubt this has a shot in hell of catching my eye versus the Canadian 3-disc but this movie deserves all the love it can get.
If they could release the content of the Canadian 3-disc on blu-ray, I'd grab it in a heartbeat. However, no reason to get another SD version when there is such a good one available already.
I'd be tempted to double-dip if it has the commentary from the 3-disc with sub-titles, otherwise no.

I concur. If this went to BR, that's probably the only way I'd pick up another copy.

Seen it, do not have it. Need it. Greatest transition of all time. Can I actually get the Canadian 3-disc? Is it still available? Region-free players do come in handy.

Not in stock, but they say it is still available.

What is the difference between the director's cut and the theatrical version? I've only seen the theatrical version. Once in the theater and then I've got a crappy PAL version with Chinese subtitles that I bought while living in China.

The difference in running time is about 6 minutes.

Yes you can still get the 3 disc if you don't mind going on ebay. Which is where I got mine like 4 years ago. It cost me something like 30, im sure you can get it cheaper. Also you don't need a region free DVD player because canada is region 1. Which is great because back then I didn't have a region free player and I also wanted a proper copy of ginger snaps.

As for the difference between the theatrical cut and the directors cut I really don't know. I saw the US version and then bought the 3 dis several years later. But the 3 disc is worth it just for the extras.

6 minutes? That's it?!? I loved this movie in the theater, and 6 minutes isn't that much of a difference. Even my ADDled brain could have tolerated 6 more minutes of sitting still. What's up with that?

Well, anyway, I didn't know about the Canadian 3-disc. That's theone I'll be looking to buy. It is cool they're finally releasing the US version, though.

The biggest difference is a couple of scenes showing that Jean Francois finds a sketch Fronsac drew of Bellucci's character (whose name escapes me), gives it to Marianne who later has Fronsac thrown out of the castle. Later, Bellucci prays next to Marianne in church, and tells her Fronsac's only in love with Marianne.

Pretty sure those are in the regular release I have.

Yeah, but they aren't in the theatrical cut or the Region 1 DVD.

If ever there were a film that shouldn't be any longer...

I think that few minutes added in the director's cut actually enhance the characters development of the movie.
In fact, when Universal released this movie on DVD in UK and Australia, Universal actually removed some scenes (involving the Royal Hunter Beauterne) from the original theatrical version and added most of the 'Director's Cut' scenes in the movie.

I also thought that the subplot of Royal Hunter Beauterne was unnecessary .... until I watched "Legend" documentary on DVD. (The documentary has a video interview with naturalist Michel Louis, who talks about the the historical facts of the Beast of Gevaudan)

I chased the Canadien (heh!) three disc for awhile - then I saw the transfer. It's dark and sorta' soft in spots. Every single version of this film has something wrong with it. The US version is not the DC, the Canadian version has a not so great picture, the awesome leatherbound French version has no subs...

Now we've got this new one...and it's got inferior features and no DTS mix (I know that doesn't matter for many people - and it didn't matter to me, either - until I got my awesome receiver). Oh well.

There's a French FOUR disc that's supposed to be great - but I've never seen any images from it...
Right but that four disc doesn't have subtitles right? Thats what i've heard anyway. I don't know really I guess it really should be a matter of the best transfer. Look extras are nice but they are just that, extras. I have the canadian editon. The extras are great and I thought the transfer was good. But if you think the new one has a better transfer then go for it. I mean im all for special featues but how many do you really need?

I just looked over the new ones spec list and all the important stff is in there. Deleted scenes, featurettes. I mean the canadian disc has a commentary but it isn't subtitled. If I didn't already own the canadian 3 disc I would just buy this one and call it a night. Not to mention im sure one day there will be a blu ray of this and it might have all the features.

dvdempire.com has posted this "Brotherhood of the Wolf" 2-disc director's cut DVD's back cover, and Focus Features' logo is on the back cover.
http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...or=1#topoftabs

It is very strange! I also got this DVD eariler, and my DVD doesn't have the Focus Features' logo on the back cover. (Maybe my DVD's back cover was a mistake?)
http://img227.imagevenue.com/img.php..._122_412lo.jpg

Furthermore, in my DVD, only Universal's logo appears at the beginning of the movie (no Focus Features's logo)

Today, this DVD is released in the stores in the United States....... Does anyone see Focus Features' logo on the back cover of this DVD? (In the DVD, does Focus Features' logo appear at the beginning of the movie?)

BTW, does anyone see this DVD in the big stores? (like Wal-Mart, Best Buy)

Thanks.

Wait Wait Wait. If the commentary is in french with no subtitles. The hell is the point of having that unless you know french?

No point. But that was on the 3-disc Canadian version (which has been available for years and was superior to the old barebones US version). This new edition makes that one obselete (unless I'm missing something), but I have no need to spend the money to replace the Canadian one I've already purchased awhile back.

You're a lot better off just going ahead and getting the 3-disc Canadian DVD released a few years ago.

The extras on this (I've had the 3-disc Canadian version since forever) are excellent. Definitely not your usual EPK bullshit, it's pretty warts-and-all. Christophe Gans clearly let his behind the scenes documentary crews get final cut - it's really not particularly flattering to the director in places. I've bought worse documentaries as stand-alone releases.

The DTS track on the Canadian 3-disc seems to be the same one as heard in the theater, and it's one of the most colon-rattlingly awesome sound mixes I've ever experienced. The dynamic range is fucking nuts. The Dolby tracks have definitely been remixed to tone the dynamics down to neighbor-friendly levels; the DTS mix doesn't give a shit about your neighbors. I don't know what Universal was thinking excluding this.

Edited to add: I absolutely adore this film.
