Flobots

A friend mentioned this band to me a few weeks ago when I brought up Iglu & Hartly's single 'Violent and Young'. I was browsing Best Buy today, and noticed that their album Fight With Tools was in the "New Releases" section, so I blindly picked it up. If you want some politically-charged music from an indie hip-hop group that's actually musically relevant, modern, and unique, I'd recommend giving it a listen, at the very least.

I clicked on this thread just to investigate and at that exact moment, a commercial for the album popped up on Comedy Central. Fucking weird.

"Handlebars" has been in heavy rotation for a couple of weeks now on Sirius, and it's getting local play here, too (Flobots hail from Denver).

Haven't heard much else besides the first single, but I like what I've heard so far.

I dig "Handlebars" too. I find it delightfully visceral.

Handlebars is great but at the same time it makes me wish Cake was releasing a new album.

Honestly, what in the world do you all like about "Handlebars"?

Know what I like about Flobots?

Making fun of their name.

I've finally gotten my hands on this album.

I gotta be honest, maybe its a bit too 'white hipster tryhard political hiphop" for many around here, but I fucking love it.

It may be because it reminds me a lto of a lot of my favourite aussie hiphop thats around right now with a dash of 'Cake goes political' thrown in, but it's definately my type of stuff.

I have a community radio show here in Melbourne that showcases a lot of aussie and kiwi hip hop and this seems very in line with that.

Maybe Im foregoing chud musical cred - but this is really doing it for me.

Meh. This is one of those threads that I made and look back and think, "What the fuck was I thinking?"

I forgot this album and band even existed. I think I listened to this, like, twice and threw it in my pile of CDs I don't listen to anymore. It took me awhile to realize that the friend that recommended this to me has vastly different taste in music than I do.

Glad you're enjoying it, though, The Rain Dog.
