Robert Asprin (1946-2008)

On May 22, 2008, Bob passed away quietly in his home in New Orleans, LA. He had been in good spirits and working on several new projects, and was set to be the Guest of Honor at a major science fiction convention that very weekend. He is survived by his mother, his sister, his daughter and his son, and his cat, Princess, not to mention countless friends and fans and numerous legendary fictional characters.
As a kid, I was a big fan of the Myth Adventures fantasy novel series. It was all fluff, but it was also irreverent and cheeky. The comic book series illustrated by Phil Foglio was also great. When my dad started to attend science fiction conventions as a guest, I'd tag along. I got to meet Asprin at several conventions, and even participated in a panel with his son (along with several other young folks). We talked about what it was like growing up with a science fiction/fantasy author for a parent. It's odd to think that he has passed away. I was looking forward to seeing him again in September.

Though I never read the MYTH books, in high school I read all of the Thieves World anthologies of which he was the editor. Back in my D&D days...

Wow. I haven't read a Myth book in ages, but I adored them as a kid. Such a nice combination of the old "Road" movies with all the fantasy stuff I used to devour.

Rest in peace, Robert.

"It's pervect!"
