Iron Maiden-Somewhere Back in Time Tour

I'm gonna be catching them in Irvine, CA next Saturday. Has anyone seen them on the road yet? They started their U.S. leg last Wendsday in the San Antonio area. Having read the setlist on Wikipedia, it looks like a pretty good one, with stuff they havent played live in awhile ("Rime of the Ancient Mariner", "Wasted Years" and several songs from "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son").

I wish I could play with madness...dammit...

I have great tickets for the Seattle show next week.

Gonna be amazing.

There's a lot of Maiden discussion here: http://chud.com/forum/showthread.php...ht=iron+maiden

I had tix for San Antonio and couldn't afford to go. My two best friends from years back went and had a great time. I have a ticket for the Boston show and really hope I can make the trip for that.

Russ, I hope you get to see them in Boston. It was five years since my last Maiden show and that was in Chicago. Living in North Carolina, theres only so many times I can go out of state to see them.
Well I hope anyone who can make it goes and experiences this tour.
Seattle exploded last night, thanks to Bruce and Co.

I do miss the new material, but at least I can die having heard Moonchild live.

Is "Fear of the Dark" on the set list? I know it's not given as much warm love as earlier Maiden, but hearing the crowd chant/sing along on the Best of the Beast version still brings the hairs up on the back of my neck...
Yes, they are playing Fear of the Dark, a classic that I think every Maiden fan loves.
Unfortunately, this is an 80's nostalgia tour, so Fear of the Dark SHOULDN'T be getting played.

A bit late posting this, but the Irvine show simply rocked. One of the best setlists I've seen Maiden do, and it was great to see them recreate the World Slavery show, it felt like 1985 all over again. The highlights of the rarely played stuff would have to be "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (all 13 minutes of it), "Aces High", "Powerslave" (Dickinson's Egyptian priest costume gave that part of the show a rock opera look), and "Moonchild", though "Wasted Years" and "Heaven Can Wait" (some of the audience joined Maiden on stage, lucky hellrats) are pretty good too. And of course, plenty of old Maiden classics, but no "Running Free", "Killers" or even "Wrathchild".

I'm full of surprises.

The show last night was amazing. It was the best one I've ever seen. The performances were spot-on, the setlist was practically perfect and the theatricality of it all was as grand as it gets. I don't think I've ever had this amount of fun at a show before.

All of you need to get a ticket to this spectacle.

I loved how they started out the show with "Aces High". The guitar and vocals on that song are amazing. Such a pity Maiden's North American leg is only four weeks long (and that includes almost a week in Canada), but at least I got to catch them. By the way, Iron Maiden, what city did you see them? (I think the Chicago show was this week).

Yep, I saw them in Chicago. I even bought the awesome, Chicago-only t-shirt with Eddie dressed as a 1920s gangster in front of the Chicago Theater.

I'll be seeing them this Sunday at the Garden. Greatly looking forward to it.

That T-shirt with Eddie as a gangster sounds pretty awsome. Can you put a picture of it on this page? I saw a shirt being sold at the Irvine show that had Eddie chopping down a palm tree with his hatchet and the Beverly Hills sign having the words "Run to the" spraypainted over Beverly in red paint. I wonder what some of the other exclusive Maiden shirts where.

Friends that went to the San Antonio show I had to skip are sending me this one:

And I still have this gem from 20 years ago:

How can you emotionally deal with missing a tour this amazing?

I can't stop thinking about it and it was two weeks ago.

This Friday for me...I'm dripping with anticipation.

Last night at the Garden was an awesome show, although there was a huge Spinal Tap moment when towards the end of 'Powerslave', all of the instruments suddenly went dead. Thankfully, the band didn't pull a GNR and storm off the stage for an early end to the night. Right after it happened, Bruce started to imitate that Ashley Simpson 'Jig' from SNL a few years ago when she was caught lip-synching. For the next 10 or so minutes they were playing around with the props on stage and even brought a soccer ball out and started kicking that around, eventually punting it into the crowd for one lucky fan.

Maiden just loves those inflatable balls they kick into the audiance. That thing Dickinson did during the New York show when their instruments went kaput sounds hilarious, I wonder if its on You Tube yet. Dickinson has one of the best senses of humor for a frontman, thats for sure. Also, thanks Iron Maiden for showing us what that Chicago shirt looks like.

There are several Youtubes up of the Spinal Tap moment.
Sorry, no links from me...

I watched a couple of them today. I just typed in "Iron Maiden Madison Square Garden" and presto. Btw, did you catch the part when Dickinson took one of the Eddie mummy props and used it to deflect the ball? Very funny stuff.
Holy fucking shit that was great.
Between the crazy rain on friday night and finger blasting a chick on the lawn during the show, all I have to say is fucking awesome.

So you went to the Boston show? Thats the second to the last show in North America. Montreal comes after that (if not already) and its off to Europe for Maiden. The past four weeks sure flew fast for this tour, but I'm one of those lucky few who got to see them (in Irvine, California). Btw, what part of the concert was the highlight for your show, Hair-Metal Hero?
Rime, without a doubt, spec-fucking-tacular(as the rain was buffeting everyone on the lawn). And seeing Somewhere in Time Eddie prancing across the stage. The whole setlist is pretty good if you like the middle albums(which I love). Super Glad I finally got to see them.

Hearing "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" live was indeed great. For the stuff Maiden dosen't play live too often anymore , its pretty much the holy grail since its so long and epic. However, it was quite a surpise to see "Moonchild" on the setlist too.
Yeah, Moonchild was great. Flight of Icarus and Evil that men Do were really the only two songs I would have added

Maiden did play "The Evil that Men Do" during the "Brave New World" tour back in 2000. I belive they stopped playing "Flight of Icarus" live in the early 90's and "The Prisoner" at about the same time.
I saw them on the "Seventh Son" tour, and "The Prisoner" was one of the highlights for me.

Yes, I remember Maiden playing that song during the "Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour". Gosh, that was like, twenty years ago. "Children of the Damned" is another thats been absent for awhile.
"Children of the Damned" was actually played on the 2007 tour, which was the 25-year celebration of The Number of the Beast and a "thank you" for making the A Matter of Life and Death tour so successful. Sadly, that was a Europe-only tour. "The Evil that Men Do" was played on both the '06 and '07 tours.

From what I've read over the years, Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson don't really like "Flight of Icarus" all that much, which would explain it not being played much. It's been a few years, but I think I read that the finished product is not exactly what they wanted and that there were outside parties (record execs) telling them to make it a bit more poppy. I'll try to find out.

I recalled that Maiden did play "22 Acacia Avenue" during their 2003 tour, but only during their European dates. They cut this and a few other songs from the setlist because they had two opening acts performing for Maiden (Motorhead and Dio) during the North American part of the tour and the contact forced them to make some changes.
