'Uncontacted tribe' sighted in Amazon

Quote:
(CNN) -- Researchers have produced aerial photos of jungle dwellers who they say are among the few remaining peoples on Earth who have had no contact with the outside world.

Taken from a small airplane, the photos show men outside thatched communal huts, necks craned upward, pointing bows toward the air in a remote corner of the Amazonian rainforest.

The National Indian Foundation, a government agency in Brazil, published the photos Thursday on its Web site. It tracks "uncontacted tribes" -- indigenous groups that are thought to have had no contact with outsiders -- and seeks to protect them from encroachment.

More than 100 uncontacted tribes remain worldwide, and about half live in the remote reaches of the Amazonian rainforest in Peru or Brazil, near the recently photographed tribe, according to Survival International, a nonprofit group that advocates for the rights of indigenous people.
I love the accompanying (sp?) photos. It's like a time machine tour.

It's different! Kill it!

Those poor people. I hope someone removes them from their debilitating circumstances and provides them access to modern clothes, food, medicine, language, and technology. Who will take up this burden?

Even if they remain untouched by civilzation, imagine the chaos this one flyover might cause. Will they fear the return of the great bird spirit? Pray for it to come back? See it as a good omen, or a bad one? Oh to be a fly on the wall in that village.

At one time I was felt like these tribes should be protected from our more advanced society and left to their on devices. But, the more I think about it, the more I feel that my reasoning behind that was to retain their odd way of life, their aged traditions.

Now, I feel that it's a bad thing to let these ancient cultures not given an chance to experience modern society. The life expectancy and lifespan of their lifestyle is very grim.

How is that "uncontacted"? That fucking pilot has as much regard for the Prime Directive as a randy young Jim Kirk.

What if he dropped a dildo?

The Prime Directive is for pussies. When Kirk sees a half-naked, dancing green woman, well I pity the Starfleet brass that try to get in his way.

Best sentence ever? Only the Rumbling Bird Spirit knows for sure.

They'll have their own facebook pages in a week.

First question by the tribe: "Did Britney get her kids back? Our satellite dish was eaten by a python a few months ago."

BBC has even better photos. The sixth one (they have seven) shows one of them chucking a spear at the plane!

But he is! He is!

The initial story from the BBC was that they knew these tribes existed but they were uncontacted. I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary, only that this is not a "new" uncontacted tribe.

(see, for example, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7027254.stm and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4554221.stm)

Someone should make a film about this. Is Ruggero Deodato or Umberto Lenzi available?
