DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA?

Ever wish you could go into a time machine and go back to a time when life was much more simple, but far more fun? Well, here it is! DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA is two nights of classic horror and science fiction 35mm prints presented at an authentic drive-in movie theater. There will be two big shows on two consecutive nights which will start at dusk and go on until really late into the night! This is the second year in a row that we are hosting such an event, so we encourage all East Coast drive-in movie fanatics to attend and make it another rousing success! What could be better than a weekend getaway topped off with two nights of classic monster movies on the big outdoor screen? We realize that everything is so expensive these days, but admission is only $10 a person each night! Plus, children 12 and under are free with parent or adult guardian. How can you beat that? The Riverside’s concession stand is loaded with reasonably priced goodies, including hot foods, hot and cold drinks, candy, popcorn and much more!

What is being shown and when?

On Friday, September 12, the features will be “Cry of the Banshee”, “Frogs”, George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and “The Crazies”.

On Saturday, September 13, the features will be “Blacula”, “Return of Count Yorga”, “Dracula vs. Frankenstein” and “Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman”.

Each night we will also present an array of vintage monster movies trailers in between the features which we know you will just love! This year, we might even have a few surprise short subjects!

Where is the theater?

DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA will be held at the Riverside Drive-In Theatre in Vandergrift, PA. For the dates of September 12 and 13, the theater will devote its screen exclusively to these special nights of vintage entertainment. The actual driving location of the theater reads as: Riverside Drive In Theatre, Route 66 N, Vandergrift, PA 15690. If you put that information as your destination on Mapquest, you can easily access directions from your starting location. The phone number of the theater is 724-568-1250 and their website is www.riversidedrivein.com

As far as trolls go.. this one's alright.

Seconded. I've never been a big drive in fan (and yes, I am old enough to remember them), but if I were, this'd be worth checking out.
hmmm, I'd love to go to the first night but I don't have a car and I live in Philadelphia. I do have some friends and family in Pittsburgh though, so it's possible, and I certainly have plenty of time to plan a trip that weekend...

Same here - too much of a haul for me right now, but I'd definitely hit both nights.

We need something like this here in Jersey. Yeah, we get Chiller Theatre, but that conventions not what it was.

Yeah... this troll's all right!

I LOVE drive-ins, and I love this idea. If I had:

a) a car
b) a home in PA
c) both of the above

I'd be there with bells on.

Sorry, why is this guy a troll?

Shill, maybe...but for troll you'd need a few more posts than '1'.
( ...or am I missing something?)

Drive-in Super Monster-rama

I'm organizing this from New York and traveling about 7 hours to get there, so I hope others we'll do likewise, especially if there in some kind of reasonable driving distance (last year we had people come as far as from California!). I can tell you it will be a total blast from the past!

We did it last year and it went well, and the plan is to make it an annual event, so hopefully we'll get a good crowd again!

I'm not sure what a "troll" is, but this is a labor of love kind of thing, and I am just trying to spread the word to outlets where I feel they're may be some interested (diehard film buffs!).

*Sniff!* He had me at "Frogs".

Dude...I saw Frogs at the drive-in back when it first came out. It was in a double feature with Godzilla vs the Smog Monster. My dad was a cool cat back in them days.

My 18-yo daughter took one look at the first post over my shoulder and started poking me. "You should do that. We could so go there. I'll pay for it. The whole trip."

She lies, of course, but it warmed my pea-pickin little heart.

Do you have any idea how fucking lucky you are? First, getting the memory of a drive in double bill of the proportions you describe, then having your teenage kid express interest in attending a revival of one of those very flicks? I SO hope my kid develops a taste for this stuff. I have SO much I can give him. The memories we could create. . . . Or we could end up like me and my dad; he loves fishing more than anything, and I couldn't care less about it. No shared interests. We have very little to talk about sometimes.

I saw the world's most bizarre double feature of Foul Play and Humanoids from The Deep at a drive in when I was 16. Despite the mis-matchiness of the two films, it was still a great time!
That was one of those "screw the movies, let's make out" nights, wasn't it? Otherwise, you'd be too whiplashed to drive home safely. Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Humanoids?

"Sorry officer. I didn't mean to be weaving between lanes so much. I just...well...I just got out of a Chevy Chase/Humanoids double-feature."

"All right, miss. I'm just going to give you a warning this time. But don't let it happen again."

Oh, no, not even close! I was with my sister, her husband, their collie and me. My sister and her husband were in the front with one bucket of popcorn, the dog and I were in the back sharing a second bucket. And let me tell you, during the Humanoid rape and subsequent birth scenes? The dog and I just looked at each other and went, "Dude... that's messed up."

I can picture that clearly.

I have hopes for my daughter, teledork (she's only 4 next month). You should totally go, if the trip's feasible. If my daughter at 18 said that to me, and I hope she does some day, I'd go from "wistfully entertaining the idea" to "making it f**king happen" in a millisecond. I'm a sucker for peer-pressure, especially when it enables my film-geekiness.

If I was still living in my home town, it would be a doable 5-6 hour drive across PA, but yeah... that's far.

I agree that at 750 miles, this trip's a lil' long, TD, but you see what the fuck I'm talkin' 'bout, don'cha?

Three years in a row, I've driven over 900 miles (one way) to Drive Invasion in Atlanta. I just couldn't miss such films as COUNT YORGA VAMPIRE, DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN, BLOOD BATH, BIG DOLL HOUSE, FOXY BROWN, SPIDER BABY, THE INCREDIBLE TWO-HEADED TRANSPLANT, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD, INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS, THE CAR, THE THING WITH TWO HEADS, etc on the big outdoor screen over the years. It's a great Labor Day Weekend experience!

At $4+ per gallon (plus wear and tear), you might be better off taking a plane.
