Nixon's Nixon, currently playing at the Round House Theater in Bethesda, is an astonishing 100 minutes with two actors, no scene changes, and a pair of tour de force performances.
The play takes place the night before Nixon's resignation. The President has summoned Kissinger to the White House Sitting Room, looking for - advice? commiseration? friendship? someone to try to talk him out of doing what he knows he has to do?
Kissinger, being Kissinger, has his own agenda. As these two smart, powerful men get progressively drunk, relive the past, and plot their possible futures, the play goes from comedy to tragedy and back again. It's funny, it's heart-wrenching, and it's a great time at the theater.
Catch it while it lasts.
