Fear Itself

The promos look pretty good.

has there been any feedback yet on the net?

I'm DVR'ing it Thursday night. At least the episode with James Roday and Maggie Lawson should be good.
As a fellow Psych fan, the Roday/Lawson episode looks the most interesting.

There are reviews for the first three episodes over at Fangoria's website right now and they were mostly positive in what they saw.
I'm of the opinion that if they couldn't pull it off on Showtime with people like John Carpenter, the odds here aren't inspiring. That said, I might give it a go, now that everything else I watch on TV just ended.
I'm excited about it, but I have no idea why. I think it's because I'm a sucker.
I enjoyed the first one. A little slow going at first, kinda a shaky plot. They explained the village ladies well, but never really explained the visitors.

I liked the Outer Limits styled ending though.
Good to see Rachel Miner and Mircea Monroe again. And starring Charlie Jade!

That's about all I have positive to say about it.
Boring and uninvolving. Not off to a good start. At least with Masters of Horror, Rachel Miner probably would have gotten naked.
It's like Garris comes up with a scene or two in his head, and just throws in the most boring glue possible to connect everything. Just tired shit. I thought the kid from Friday Night Lights actually delivered the stilted dialogue the best. Miner looked like she was wincing saying some of it. But she tried. They got some great talent onboard for this. I hope it gets better.

BTW- anyone who missed it- it's online here- http://www.nbc.com/Fear_Itself/
post #10 of 77
It was alright.
I liked the double Uzi action and that's about it. The story was predictable and kind of paint by numbers if you ask me. And what was with the lead doing an Eric Bana impression? I'll probably watch next week as I'm a sucker for Eric Roberts but this wasn't exactly ground breaking genre fare or anything.
At least next week's has an interesting director in Brad Anderson. But the preview wasn't too inspiring. Still, Jack Noseworthy is in it!
This series may need to invoke the power of C. Thomas Howell.
This episode had a nice setup and creepy atmosphere. Although I can't believe no one thought of trapping the monster in the pit before. You would think that one of those Romanian immigrants might have come up with that idea at some point over the last century or so. But, the show earned some goodwill in my house. For a summer series on network tv, this show has some promise. I'll tune in next week for sure.

Really

For a monster who so many had "tried to kill and failed" over the years it sure went out like a little vampire girl.
I thought it was alright, but it was a pretty weak way to start off the series. Though I did like the fact that they kept the vampire mostly in the shadows.

I watched this in HD today and whether the story was flimsy or not, it looked great. The location and set were very nice too. Creepy indeed.

There really isn't much else on, its a nice addition to a very limited horror show genre.
Am I crazy or was that the same fort set they used for Ginger Snaps 3: Snapping Back or whatever that convoluted atrocity I sat through was.
It was.
Really they never thought of throwing a victim down the hole and then when the vampire goes after them they close the door and burn him alive? Really this is the first time in a couple hundred years this occured to them? And in the end when she saw the guy was bit, did she really have to close the door and repeat that whole retarded process over again. She could just kill him before he turns! Also the vampire couldn't leave? Really he couldn't break the lock on the fort and escape? And so what if it did get out? I mean im pretty sure it could be stopped by I don't know.......the army. That was really a horribly thoughout story, so many holes.

To be fair they did say as long as they kept feeding it the vampire stayed. So the vampire was just lazy as opposed to stupid.

I'm just amazed they are actually filming this series in and around Edmonton, Alberta. Someone must have lost a coin toss or something! I live here and like this town too.
was that Serj Tankian I heard in the opening credits?
Yup, "Lie Lie Lie" from his debut solo album. Great record.

Best bit of the show.
Reheheheheheally? I'm not sure why, but I assumed it was put together specially for the show - *definitely* out to pick that up now. Cheers, Doc.

For anyone interested, you can see the titles on the NBC website http://www.nbc.com/Fear_Itself/

Not a bad episode. Ending was predictable, but I liked that LiL' Shawn from Psych was in it as LiL' Eric Roberts.
I thought it was definitely better this week. Not great, but better. I thought the story was better in general, the casting was good, there was more spookiness that had me a little tense (ep 1 had me cringing more than anything), and there were far less chances to poke holes in the plot as there were last week.

Eric Roberts is the shit.
I missed the first 15 minutes so I need a clarification on something.

Was Jack Noseworthy's character an innocent that Robert's killed or was it just some vigilante style justice?
The guy had kidnapped a young boy and he wouldn't tell Roberts where he was so Roberts started eating and cutting on him. After the boy was found the guy died but he was far from innocent.

Thats the thing just another show explaining how we can't kill bad people or you become just like them even if it means saving a life. I also liked that the way he was punished for these bad things was by KILLING HIM. However I will say it had some cool things in there, nice atmosphere.
Holy crap. "Family Man" was a horrible episode. This series is DOA.
I'm trying to figure out what exactly Ronny Yu was trying to direct and who the hell is responsible for writing this abortion but I'll let my 7 year old sum this up for me:

"Is that it?"

When you can't scare a 7 year old and leave him feeling disappointed you've royally screwed the pooch. Seriously, what the fuck was the point of any of this? I wrote shitty poetry in and out of iambic pentameter stoned my freshman year of high school that flowed better.
Daniel Knauf, creator of "Carnivale". Won't my daddy be so proud of me?
Well, they got the John Landis episode next week so that should be good. And hopefully they'll be showing the Stuart Gordon after that.
I enjoyed the "Family Man" episode. I saw the ending coming a few minutes in but still, I liked that they aren't sticking with only supernatural horror.
Even if you hate my ass, you have to check out SKIN & BONES, the episode I co-wrote that Larry Fessenden directed. He did a nice job for us, and the best choice he made was hiring Doug Jones to star.

It's the summer of Doug Jones, as far as I'm concerned. You'll flip when you see how good he is in HELLBOY 2, but his work in our episode is Lon Chaney good. The man's a glorious freak, and we reap the benefit.

I promise.
Is there any air date for Skin & Bones? Or for the rest of the series for that matter? I can't see any scheduling beyond the next ep.

I was kinda along for the ride with this ep, not really bothered either way, but then the police go and let a freakin' mass murderer (who, from their perspective, is claiming his innocence despite their being VIDEO EVIDENCE of him RAPING AND MURDERING lots of people) go out on a field trip with only two cops. Fuck that, that's lazy as shit. I would expect two or three cruisers, ABSOLUTE MINIMUM, keeping this guy under guard.
I love Carnivale but, like Dr. Murder mentions, I gotta wonder if Knauf has ever seen SEVEN. Pretty crap show. Although I was surprised at how bloody and stabby that final fight was for network TV.
The last sixty seconds pretty much redeemed the glacially slow first 59 minutes. My god, he ripped a carving knife right out of his shoulder, people!
The John Landis episode airs next week and I hope that the series starts to turn a corner with it. Fear Itself isn't terrible, but none of the episodes have impressed me yet.

This recent article from Fangoria does get my hopes up.

I saw the preview at the end of this weeks episode and I can't wait for next week.
Predictable and telegraphed. Nice to see Landis working though. I'm sure he has a mortgage to pay so there's that.

My hopes rest on next week's episode.
Good lord that was absolute shit. Anyone who didn't see that ending coming a mile away needs their head checked, on both "twists"

And what the hell was with her brother anyway? Any explanation? Who was the body? What was with the twin uncles? Jesus, I don't even care, this show sucks ass.

I really enjoyed last night's episode. I didn't see that ending coming, so I guess I'm the idiot, but I knew that the groom wasn't the killer.

But I enjoyed it for Landis' work and James Roday's performance. Just scenes with Best man Allan popping in at inopportune times was hilarious typical Landis.

So let me get this straight, brother and sister were serial killers and they probably killed their own parents.

The brother sent the note to warn the groom he was marrying a serial killer, because he missed his creepy relationship with his sister.

This is a stretch but one of the jars looked like it had the Uncle's head in it, which would mean that they killed one of the Twin Uncles.. and explain why the bride new about one of them..

I don't know my head hurts.
Okay, the second one of the bridemaids mentioned Lawson's old boyfriends always "disappear", I knew what the twist was. It is all the other info that came across as muddled.

To process all the info correctly, I would have to rewatch the episode and I don't think it is good enough to devote that much time to.

I liked Roday and Lawson, but this was really a waste of their talents.

Honestly, what was the point of Marshall Bell playing twin Uncle Red Herrings?
It was ok. Definatly the best one so far. As soon as I realized the note said "person" insted of "man" I knew what the twist was.

Something which could have been easily avoided by having the note say, "You are marrying a serial killer." Maybe they wanted the audience to feel smart.

I only saw the last half hour, but it really did not impress me.
That was easily the worst episode of any anthology series I've ever seen, and I've seen every episode of Masters of Horror. Unwatchable.

Don't believe the hype, people. Jones is great but like McWeeny and Swan's previous work the script is a horrible mess of homage and un-original ideas. Of course, that could be said about all the episodes of this horrible, horrible series so far. I'd be more pissed but it's kept some good friends employed for a few months.
I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and at least check it out.
