Fear Itself - Page 2

Ryan, have you read the script or seen the episode that Stuart Gordon directed? I'm holding out hope that at least that one is good.
I haven't seen all of Masters of Horror, but it was way better than this. I'd even admit to enjoying 'Cigarette Burns'. And I can't see the Fair-Haired Child without getting a little fucked up inside. That show at least went to some strange places, I'll give it that. Takashi Miike's "Imprint" was messed up, for sure.

Fear Itself has just been an incredibly tame entry into the anthology genre.

People are still watching this?

I haven't seen it yet or know if I'm going to get a chance. I know a few people who worked set dec on it and really enjoyed the process and working with Gordon but they never saw dailies.

As for Moriarty's ep, if you liked any part of his MoH eps you might like this one. Jones' performance may even make it worthwhile for you.

Hyperbole aside, last night's episode was honestly one of the worst hours of television I've ever seen (for all the reasons previously mentioned). Every week the show disappoints and yet the previews keep tricking me in to thinking it'll be better next week. Is there no advance word on the Gordon episode? I don't want to waste my time and end up angry again, but damn if it doesn't look good!

yeah, the trailer for Gordon's episode made it look like tons of fun.

Not surprisingly, Gordon actually made one of these worth watching. Fairly fucking gross to boot.

Landis's episode was awful.

Thanks, Ryan. Since I wasn't remotely praising myself, I'm not sure what your point is.

I said Doug Jones is great in our episode.

Oddly, you agree.

So what's the static, sugarpants?

I was Wikipedia'ing this show because I have never heard of it and found that the Landis episode was written by Victor Salva. So there ya go.

This show should be renamed "Wasted Ideas."

Watching this mess just made me angry. Angry that I continue to hang on in the hope something brilliant will pass my way. I switched over and caught The Obsolete Man on the Twilight Zone marathon directly after watching this past episode. Made me even angrier.

Where are our Serlings? I ask you is t.v. that dead of a medium and the genre anthology that much of an abortion nobody of worth or merit can write something that doesn't insult my intelligence or challenges me? Maybe I expect too much.

Yeah, no shit. That guy fried up a human tongue and ate it, for fuck's sake. I've actually been really surprised with some of the stuff this show has gotten away with.

My point, my sweet baboo, is this, it's sad that even the writer of the episode is incapable of hyping the episode beyond a single performance.

Well, I'm excited for Mori's ep. Just caught Fessenden's The Last Winter and really liked it.
Some nice, nostalgic light/shadows work by Gordon, but otherwise predictable and disappointing. Too bad since his two MOH entries were among the best.
Good luck tonight Mori! Or maybe he should be wishing us good luck, I'm not sure.

Anythings gotta be better than that shitfest last week.
DVR is set. Looking forward to checking it out!

I love this show's theme song.
Looking forward to Mori's. Last week's episode was just so fucking bad, tho. This show makes Masters of Horror look great by comparison.

The zombie one gave it a run for it's money in the shit department though.

I did enjoy this one and dare I say...it..wasn't that bad. Jones' performance was very, very good and no twist ending!

Very nice job, Moriarty. Doug Jones and his nasty teeth really stole the show. I can't believe they let you get away with all that cannibalism.
I thought it was pretty good. Yeah, Doug Jones was great. That shot of him lying in bed, with the covers pulled, exposing only his creepy face was great.
The script wasn't bad at all but the limitations on the violence hurt. Actually seeing Jones tear into some flesh or at least get a better idea on how the Native American guy was killed would have really helped the episode. How can CSI get away with showing an open chest cavity but we can't get a nice headshot?
Definitely the best episode so far, all the plaudits for Doug Jones are worthy, that was some creepy shit. Could've done with some more gore (the last cannibalism ep had a lot more), but what wasn't seen did get the imagination going.

Somebody in the casting department needs a smack round the head for that younger kid, he was fucking awful.

I'm going to have to agree with the comments so far. An episode that was actually creepy for once! Jones was fantasic, of course. Just a fucking creepshow in this thing. But I also really liked John Pyper-Ferguson's performance. Good writing (loved the setting, which felt old even though it was set in present day) and directing by Fessenden (who likes stories about the Wendigo, I guess). My only complaint is I wish it hadn't ended so abruptly. But a great effort.
Yeah, I liked it quite a bit. And just like everyone else I thought Jones was great, he kinda reminded me of Kroenen from Hellboy when he doesn't have his gas mask on. Like Kevin my only real complaint with it was the abrupt ending. So far Skin and Bones and Eater have been the only real good episodes.

As for the violence, I remember reading Bousman say that he shot some extra gore bits for the DVD, I wonder if the same applies for Skin and Bones.

Wow, finally a good episode of Fear Itself! I have to agree with everyone about Jones' performance. He was quite creepy and his body language gave a strong Nosferatu vibe at times

Thanks for pointing this out, Kevin. Pyper-Ferguson held his own quite well. I still remember his various appearances on Brisco County Jr. as Pete Hutter. Good times.

I think it's hilarious that Brandon Routh's first acting job since Superman was in this show. I bet he imagined his career going in a bit different path after getting the starring role in a huge summer blockbuster. Unless of course if he knows he's a terrible actor and he's just happy to be working at all.
That was easily the best episode so far. Made want to check out Fessenden's movies.
