Flux Capacitor Replica

You have to be a real BttF geek to spend that kind of money on one of these.

If I had any interest whatsoever in collecting movie replicas, this would be A-Number One.
That doesn't look all that tough to construct.
250?

Rip off. If I had some time and reason I could make one for probably less than 50 bucks.
You'd think for that price that it would come installed in an old DeLorean.

They're Shankara Stones, Ed. They have powers. Get all five and the Thuggies will be all powerful.

I'm still waiting for the authenticated Mola Ram skull helmet.

I got into "authentic prop replicas" a couple of years ago thanks to the lightsabers that Master Replicas used to put out. I enjoyed collecting them and displaying them so much that I started to save up and purchase other prop replicas as they came out. I bought the official Marvel Thor Hammer a few months ago, and I have to admit I saved my money and picked this item up as well.

Yeah, I guess someone could make one themselves on the cheap, but -

A. I'm not that skilled

and

B. It's a limited release, so it's numbered and has collectible value.

Plus, it's a neat little conversation-piece.
I actually work for Diamond, not for the Toy Division, but on the comics side. But I have to admit, its a really cool looking, and well made piece. Not for everyone ($), but it is sweet.
Granted, at this point, you might be able to pick up a Delorean for cheaper. Or Crispin Glover.
Or a burnt piece of the clock tower.

Before the CHUD 2.0 Great Deletion of '07-'08 I had a thread about this, and I preordered it way back last year.

Well I finally did get it last month, and while overall I like it, it's still far from what should have been produced for this money.

They made multiple mistakes including one very important one:

IT FLUXES THE WRONG WAY!

Instead of the lights going towards the center they go away from the center. Fucking retarded.

Then the black rubber that lines the window is way too thin. If you look at the pictures of it online the labels line right up with the top of the rubber, while on the one I received there's a large amount of space between those two labels and the rubber.

The couldn't be bothered to see a metal pipe on the top, just a plastic one that looks haphazardly glued on.

The people that have notably made their own replicas of the thing say how the company obviously copied their replicas and not well, so you're getting a shoddy copy of a copy.

They also say how parts and labor on this thing couldn't have been over $40, and they're charging $275 for it.

I can't say I'm not disappointed with this. Especially as a big BTTF fan. Hopefully if they make any more BTTF products like this they do a better job.

Sons of bitches! May I interest you in one of my brand new Sankara stones as a kind of salve for your wound?

Fingers crossed for Power Laces or the Pit Bull (Oh, who am I kidding? If it meant getting an actual hoverboard, I'd take the Barbie).

I would if it came with the rip off handle.
I used to see people selling hoverboard replicas on ebay all the time, but haven't more recently. If I was looking into putting together a BTTF replica collection I'd probably get one too. Though I guess the question is what else COULD they make that you'd actually want to buy useless prop replicas of? I mean not like they're going to produce size adjusting self drying jackets prop replicas.

I still don't get why they have never licenses action figures like the ones being made by Neca. All they have are those stupid minimates.
We're talking about replicas? No, I want an actual functioning hoverboard, but it's got to have power because I definitely do not want to look like a lobo when I try to skate over water.
I would buy an extending bat. I'm sure that's doable with modern science.
I believe it's "bojo" not "lobo." What's wrong Mattioli? Got no scrot?

Reading that last line in Amrish Puri's accent makes that such a great post. Minsky, I have pm'd you in regards to your mystical Shankara Stones *rubbing hands* ..fortune and glory, kid..

I am the Dude, but no I'm not rocking jellies. I wouldn't want to blow out my flip-flop and step on a pop top.

I just roll with these:

The cars are back in production. Kind of. Apparently, when Mr. DeLorean himself got into his legal troubles and the company folded, there were plenty of parts made that were never assembled. A couple of years ago production was restarted with all the leftover parts and now you can buy refurbished or even new (technically) DeLoreans.

Someday I will have one.

Really? Man. I admit, I've only taken it out of the box twice, so I haven't really looked at it that closely (I picked mine up a few weeks ago right around the time I was moving into a new house).

This makes me sad now.

I like the Minimates. That said, I would also love to see some proper action figures made of the BTTF characters.

I say give it a little more time. Practically everything is getting an action figure these days. And if Minimates and badly-made Flux Capacitors are already out on the market, then maybe action figures won't be too far behind.

I stand corrected. I always thought it was "lobo" as in "lobotomy". So, then, what's a "bojo"?

Eh, whatever, Mike, why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

Some guy was practically begging people to buy his at a swap meet I went to several years ago.

Stock, they are crap cars. Now if these refurbished one's worked out their problems they may be worth it.

I watched a doc on 80s technology a couple of weeks ago and the DeLorean was one of the things featured. They interviewed one of the guys who started the production lines back up and he stated that they had improved on alot of the faults that the originals had. One thing he mentioned specifically was the engine and the horsepower problem. I do believe he mentioned the gull-wing door hydrolics were improved as well.

Mike, Don-
Anyone who pays that much money for a metal box with some blinking lights gets exactly what they deserve.

I love how they call shit like Thor's hammer and Green Lantern's ring charger "prop replicas". They're replicas of what exactly? The REAL hammer of Thor?
Shh, the government doesn't want you to know about such things.

Still, I always thought a wearable Right hand of Doom would be hillarious to have on around the office.
If it wasn't for Back to The Future would anyone even care about the Delorean?
Probably, but never underestimate the hipsters to pick shit up like that and make it their own.

Um, thanks I guess. I'm not quite sure what you were going for here, except that maybe you're under the impression that I am disappointed with my purchase. I was kind of being facetious when I said I was saddened by the difference between the actual Flux Capacitor film prop and the replica I purchased. It's still a neat little piece and I'm glad I bought it. So, I guess since I enjoy what I bought that I got what I deserve - enjoying something I spent money on.

Um, they're replicas of the same items featured in the comic books? I mean, the Thor Hammer looks like the hammer in the comic, with all the exact same details. So, I guess that would be a replica. And since the item I bought is a solid item that I can hold, but isn't a real Hammer of Thor, I guess that would make it a prop.
Hard to argue with that.
He hammered his argument home, I'd say.
It would be funny to use Thor's hammer like a real hammer. It would make home improvement jobs more interesting.
You probably could. The head is solid. And heavy.

There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?

If anybody wishes to construct your own flux capacitor see the page below. Of course you still end up spending over $200 if you want to make it screen accurate, cause the enclosure material used in the movie is expensive.

http://www.bttfparts.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=857

Many action figure companies have approached Universal for license approval, the studio have no problem with it. Problem is getting approval from Michael J. Fox and his people (agents). Those who remember, the BTTF pinball machine didn't have his image likeness either. After the trilogy ended Michael didn't want his face and image used over several merchandise products and thus restricted his likeness since the early 90s itself.

I still love the detail work Diamond Select Toys has put into the BTTF minimates, I have suggested to them since MJF won't give approval, they could roll out Doc Brown and Biff figures for the time being and then probably make Marty figures without the exact likeness of MJF, similar to what McFarlane did with one of their Terminator license when they couldn't get Arnold's likeness approval. Maybe put glasses on the face or something.

In spite of all the inaccuracies it's still a pretty good looking prop replica. My biggest complaint with DST's Flux Capacitor replica is the color, it should be dark grey. After they rolled out the final product image I canceled my pre-order. Months before the item went into production I and few fans sent accurate dimension information to DST and insisted on the right exterior colors as well. I sent them few screen shots and gave suggestions to make it better.

They responded to several of my emails and suggestions, but when the final product was getting released in the market, they informed me they are sticking with the old design i.e the one with all the inaccuracies.

I hope DST release a screen accurate Hoverboard for their next line of BTTF prop replicas.

For fucks sake Michael J Fox. Let them pay you for your likeness, donate what you get to your charity. Let us have a damn Marty McFly figure!

And yeah i forgot to mention the color too. Bastards

Maybe now the action figure companies should try their luck one more time by approaching MJF .
