Helstar's latest, THE KING OF HELL, leaves this album behind in the dust.

Yes. Judas Kiss is fantastic. I love this album, with Broken, Beat & Scarred being the only track I'm not too crazy about.

I can't wait to see them live so I can actually hear Trujillo's contributions.

No one cares, go jerk off to your Manowar album covers.

I find that really funny because I didn't buy a crappy "comeback" album with Lars Ulrich's distended anus on the cover.

I find it funny that Headless Fett continues to post in this thread even though he has stated numerous times he has no interest in the album and keeps regurgitating the same tired shit.

We get it, Metallica sold out, lars sucks, etc etc. Why are you wasting your time in this thread then? Are you that big of a looser? I don't particularly like Nickelback, but I don't waste my time posting in threads about their albums.

So in short, get the fuck out of the thread if you don't like said band/album, you giant geek.

After a few more listens, yeah the snare is a bit loud, but the bottom line is this is some of the best shit Metallica has written in almost 20 years. I'm not gonna get up in arms about the production not being 100% to the general public's liking. I'm still blasting this shit in my car and rockin' out regardless.

Like he said, at this point no matter what Metallica does, there are gonna be people that bitch. Move on.

This is a band with infinite resources working with the highest-paid professionals in the industry; it's unacceptable. Whether Lars gives a shit or not, the waveforms of the two mixes speak for themselves.

Though, I'll grant you, a lot of people who don't know what the fuck they are talking about are probably bitching for the sake of it.
The thing is, I'd say at least 80% of the people who bought this don't even know there's a controversy here. So I think to expect the band to go back in and get the original recordings that were used for Guitar Hero or whatever, remix and remaster them, and presumably set up some sort of rebate/credit/exchange type of thing with every music retailer in the world because a small percentage (and yes, when taking album sales into account it is a very small percentage) of those who bought it don't like the production just isn't realistic.

Now, if you think they sat down when this was finished, listened to it, and said "Well this sounds like shit...but fuck it, they'll buy it anyway", then that's a whole different story and discussion.
I'd say the only chance of that happening is if they do a box set release. I actually would like to get a remastered version of ...And Justice for All, this time with bass (I don't give a shit if Newstead was doubling Hetfield).
A box set release would be a good approach, if they'd consider it.

And I echo your sentiments on Justice. Putting some low-end on that album would be fucking fantastic. I don't know what it is with them and bass, man. Do they have some sort of vendetta against it because no matter who it is, it's not Cliff Burton? I think someone else said it in this thread, I've never heard a band with such an aversion to bass.

Overall, they're production decisions over the years have always been questionable. From the insanely pro-tooled Load to the St. Anger abomination to the overly compressed, high volume Death Magnetic.
I'm willing to bet money on this scenario: the decision to keep Lars' drums in St. Anger "smacking a bunch of paint buckets with a metal spoon" mode was his alone while everyone else in the band decided to make their instruments sound, you know, good. Nobody agrees with his decision, but allows the album to go through with shitty drum mixing, internet bitches him out for it, GHIII vindicates internet, Lars has himself a nice tall glass of whine as a result.

Bub, no offense here, but equating Helstar to Manowar is wrong on a thousand different levels. Helstar isn't some homo-erotic joke. If they had been signed to a major label in the 80's they would be known worldwide instead of being remembered only by metal geeks. They are a thrash band, with a fantastic vocalist. There stuff is heavy, catchy and relentless. While I don't have the new album, early reviews suggest that it, along with the new one from Testament are the high points of the 80's bands making comeback albums this year.

Back to the Metallica bashing/praising:

While the songs from Death Magnetic sound better than anything they've done since And Justice,, James should have gone back to screaming. His delivery on those first 4 1/2 albums is fantastic, but his singing really is bland and filled with unnecessary vowels added to every verse. Whya doesa Jamesa needa too singa lika thisa?
I usually don't have an ear for this sort of stuff, but the GHIII version is truly head and shoulders above the album. It really enhances the listening experience. Seriously, check it out.
Maybe they mastered the record to sound as shitty as possible if compressed to an MP3 on purpose? Sure the CD version suffers for it, but...

What the hell are you talking about? The album is totally DISTORTED. Not a little "audiophile" sound-system geek issue, but almost unlistenable. It sounds like torn speakers. It's a mess, a distorted mess. Unacceptable.
I'm the furthest thing from an audiophile (fuck, I still put up with Nevermore's atrocious sounding "Enemies of Reality") and I hate the shit out of the way this album sounds. Do yourself a favor and get the GHIII version. The differences are night and day.

To me, Metallica has always been about killer riffs. One big idea they pound you into submission with. Some of these songs have two sometimes three different riffs before the vocals kick in. It's kinds confusing sometimes.

I do like the album though.

The coda to The Day that Never Comes is awsome. I could listen to James and Kirk jam like that for an hour straight. They got their mojo back that's for damn sure.

That's kinda how they used to it, though. You know, in the "good ole days."

I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't listened to All Nightmare Long at least twice. It's getting seriously worn the fuck out, but I love it every time. Definitely the stand-out of this album, and a worthy addition to Metallica's list of classics.
