Metallica 9th Album Pre-Release - Page 2

I wonder if its possible for James to force lars out? Prob not, but good lord is he bad. Its too bad becuase james, kirk, and rob are all playing very well. I know lars was never the best drummer in the world, but this is just a joke. Metallica is the biggest metal band in the world and their drummer cant play the double bass in his own songs?

It is really fucking frustrating trying to keep loving Metallica:

Metallica to bloggers: Dont review our music
post #53 of 471
According to Metallica, the review thing was a mistake. They have since republished the reviews on metallica.com.

http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=600942

The reviews were positive by the way.

Ok, I have to admit, this preview by David Fricke made me excited and anxious to hear the new album. But I'm still (rightfully) cautious and cynical...

Similar things were said before St. Anger was released.

I'm still looking forward to it though.

dude has the biggest drum kit in the world but he plays it like a 3 piece.

The new album is entitled "Death Magnetic". What do you guys think?

Heres a bit of new music , sounds pretty good. Kinda has a Justice vibe to it. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=99050
post #58 of 471
Not a big fan of that title, maybe it'll grow on me. The clip of that tune isn't too bad, though.
I loved how watching Some Kind Of Monster was like watching This is Spinal Tap, only for real.

Metallic = irrelevant. They've said all they have to say. Hence songwriting by committee.
Death Magnetic is hysterical and awkward.
I really think I'm the only one who digs the hell out of Death Magnetic. It's got a Ride the Lightening vibe that I love and it just kind of works. It certinly no less awkward then Christ Illusion or United Abominations.
Even though nobody can convince me that this album won't be laughable as usual,
I think the 15 seconds of music in that clip sounds fantastic.

Which was their intention I'm sure.
I think its a pretty cool title, certainly better than load/reload.
I told myself that I wouldn't fall into the trap of getting excited for the new album, but, fuck it, that clip sounded kick ass...

Damn you, Metallica. Damn you.
My brother got married today. But I am more excited about how good that sample sounded :sigh:
I dig Death Magnetic and I love that sample, but I'm sure the majority of you have probably written me off as an apologist so take it as you will I guess.
Sample is good. Album name blows. I'll buy it anyway.
The music I hear in the clip sounds to me that Metallica is trying to sound "metal" again. It sounds forced to me. The name is pretty crappy as well, just be glad they didn't call it AND JUSTICE FOR ALL II or something retarded like that.

They said they were "going back to their roots" for St.Anger too and look how well that turned out.
They should have called the Album "Look, we're really fucking sorry".
Dethmagnet sounds like a Metalocalypse episode.

Take that, Lars.

Checks calender. Nope, not April 1st.

Okay, death is no longer creeping, it's magnetic.

THE MAKING OF DEATH MAGNETIC: (Deleted Scene)

THE METALLICA STUDIOS....

KIRK: (leafs through a few pages of sheet music) What the bloody hell is all that stuff I'm supposed to play?

LARS: Those are riffs Kirk. Remember riffs?

KIRK: *thinks real hard* Nope. I'm drawing a blank here guys.

JAMES: Just play your guitar real fucking fast. You know...shredding like a motherfucker!

KIRK: Shred-ding?

RICK RUBIN: It's okay Kirk. We'll just Pro Tools your stuff. Here, why don't you play with this new coloring book I got you while me and the boys do some grown up work?

KIRK: YAY! I LIKE BLACK THE BEST!
Just give up, you're not clever.
Oh no. Someone on the internet told me to give up!

So what other pearls of wisdom do you have for me? I want to make sure I strictly adhere to your standards of wit and humor so I can attain your levels of cleverness in the near future.
The funny thing is that scene can be replayed with every other member of the band nowadays.
Man, I hope Giant Baba has another meltdown. Because it'd be hysterical for running zombies and new Metallica to be the two things to drive a person to the brink.

Holding out hope for Rubin to do something special here, and that sample does sound nice, but until I hear a full song I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Kill yourself. That would be funny.

Getting rid of that hack Bob Rock was the first step, the idoit started thinking he was in the band, and he can't play bass to save his life.

Trujillo is one of the best bassists out there and he can do it all, some of those basslines in Infectious Grooves are insane! He can get as heavy as anyone, if they let him play.

Rick Rubin and Trujillo has got me interested in this.

Now if James and Lars can quit being little whinners with their millions and get over their egos. Where Metallica went down hill is when James tried to sing, because he can't, don't get me wrong he's a great metal singer and he wrote some great lyrics over the years but needs to stay in his range.

Ah if Cliff Burton only lived things would of went different I think (yeah I'm a bass player lol). Trujillo is the man for the job though, I think he'll add a whole new element that Metallica has lacked since Burton (since they wouldn't let Newsted have any input that is).

Lead by example my good man. Put the gun in your mouth and pull the trigger. That would be oh so clever of you.

I really hope Alex realizes sometime soon I'm not Baba because he sure looks like a clueless dumbass every time he says it.
Why do these things always end with name calling? ugh

So anyway...it's been 25 years since Kill 'Em All, meaning they are now eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wonder when and if they will be nominated. And by who?

Everyone reading this who isn't Fett/Baba agrees with this.

Like the opinions of people on this board matter to me anyways but nice try.

Even if the new album blows...it's going to sell like hotcakes anyways.
I'm a casual metallica fan and I dig heavy music, but I am cautiously optimistic. The title blows and the 30 sec clip is intriguing, however a random 30 second smattering of St. Anger sounds good too.

We'll see. This could be their version of R.E.M.'s Monster.
Death Magnetic? I think Magnetic Death would have worked better. It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever.

I'm still going to get caught up in the hype of the new album. Just having Rick Rubin involved is what makes me most excited. Maybe he can get something relevent out of Metallica.
This thread has got me wanting to listen to Garage Inc in a hard way. Now I just realized I lost it during a move not too long ago. There's nothing worse than wanting to listen to something NOW and not being able to. It's tortures of the damned, sir. Tortures of the damned.

Pearl Jam. LOL. Consistent. LOL.
They have an album called Load, with a microimaged picture of a sperm and blood solution on the cover.

It's sorta goofy, but this is far from the worst title in the world.

I'm more excited cause the riff in the video sounded damn cool.
I'm just worried about James still.
Voice and lyrics.

"bow down, sell your soul to me/I will set you free"

I think these are lyrics on the album, and they are St Angerterrible.
Nobody should ever write lyrics about "setting you/me free" ever again.
It means nothing and only exists because it's an easy rhyme.

He's not yet rhyming fire and desire again. Be thankful.

Did you see the clip where he sings "Suicide/I've already died"?

Feel blessed if you haven't.
Remember when James' distorted guitar sound was sharp and lethal? Made you wanna run and hide?

Remember when Lars' bass drums kicked you in the gut, and his cymbal hits cracked you in the head? Drum solo put you in ICU?

Remember when Kirk played solos like he had 14 fingers? Made you wanna sell your soul at the crossroads?

Pepperidge Farm remembers, and they say Metallica have gotten as soft as one of their ready to eat cakes.
The title's fine. Most metal bands don't have great album titles (Maiden included), so I'm not going to put too much thought into what it's called. The riff sounded good. That's what matters.

Still, I'm nowhere near sold on this one yet. These guys will have to work to get me excited after the last album.

Killers, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time,
7th Son of a 7th Son, No Prayer For the Dying, Fear of the Dark, Brave New World, Dance of Death....

All good album titles.
Seriously, St. Anger is a billion times worse of a title than Death Magnetic.

Actually, I can only count the number of their contemporaries on one of my hands that have a catalogue as consistent as theirs. Who else? Radiohead. Sleater-Kinney. White Stripes. Probably a few more not coming to mind at this moment.

That Trujillo guy really does suck. They should fire him.

If any measure of that winds up on the album, it's already artistically miles ahead of St. Anger.
