While it doesn't cut to black right away, the best example I can think of is The French Connection. When I first saw, it pissed me off so much, I hated the movie. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. We spend so much time with the investigation and to have it end like that, jeez, only in the 70's would they have an ending like that.

First off, thanks for reading.
I have come to really love these endings (if done well). They used to frustrate the shit out of me, I thought they were cheap and relied on shock. When I started to figure out the value of being concise, and the purpose it could serve for a story, I appreciated them more and more.
I'm glad to hear I'm not completely out of my fucking mind with the term.
