Don't Make Me Come Over There #1

Cool bananas.

I have a Hulk erection I have to put on ice for the next 24 hours. Being made to wait for things is when life seems at its most unfair. Then again, there are people in China right now stranded in tents, with heatstroke, without food and their house is lost in a river- oh for fuck's sake THE DARK KNIGHT IS OVER A MONTH AWAY!

Strange the set of priorities I've developed in the safety of westernized suburbs.

("Why don't you go write a script about it ya snooty guy with your pen and your...words n' shit!")

Update. It's about writing to get sold/noticed.

Yes, I do have quiet stories examining the human condition. But...fuck them. I'll write them in a decade after I've mastered being able to write tent-poles.

Zack Snyder. Jealous, yes, but also highly critical of what he's doing.

Urgh.

I was a freakin' teenager when Star Wars was released. I remember seeing a trailer (before Rocky, I think) that didn't have the classic Williams soundtrack, and me and all of my friends at NCSA thought it was going to be a stupid, trippy, Logan's Run kinda sci-fi flick.

I ended up paying to see it about a dozen times that summer. And I was a broke-ass art student.

Not sure what I'm trying to say, but I guess what it all boils down to is that I still think the prequels have some merit. Yes, they pretty much suck, and if taken literally they virtually ruin the original trilogy, but they're still engaging entertainment on their own.

But I'm an old fart.

The Dark Knight in easily digestible list form. Spoiler free.

Everyone has an opinion. And Devin's (in this instance) is unwarranted.

Holy shit.

Bravo. My friends and I actually were shocked to see that last article by Devin, only because isn't it okay to love a film so much that you see it a few times.

And yeah, I'm lucky enough to live in a big city (NYC) that I can see any of the independents any time I want. Sadly, though, sometimes they are in and out of theaters faster than Knowles used to eat a sub.

I heard his stomach is quarter sized now.

I read both sites. With Twitch coming in a close second now of my reading time, because AICN is too fanboyish and CHUD is going the route of the angry film snob. Which I am, but sometimes, like in the movies, I want to get away from reality for a brief moment.

When you argue that TDK ticket money would be better off spent on the indies, well they’re not showing everywhere. Certainly aren’t where I am. What if they genuinely look unappealing to them? To go see indies and prestige pics just to have seen them can lump you in with the type of people who live to cite films and directors that people have never heard of. (Hi Adam!)
Was that a dig at me? I don't write about films that "people have never heard of" to show off, I do it because I'm interested in them and so are some other people. And perhaps a little that someone might read a piece, become interested in the film, and try to seek it out. Nobody has to read anything I wrote (and I think most people don't!), especially if you find someone talking about movies you haven't seen pretentious.

Haha, relax dude.

You were used as an example, and being new here, I grabbed the first example I found. If I'm going to be talking about hyperbole, I'll use Harry Knowles, because people here will know who he is. If I'm going to talk about ridiculous fanboys, I will make a generalization about AICN talkbacks.

However I want to make a note about hardcore film fans who immerse themselves in more obscure past works (not totally obscure, simply more so than others) and often cite them/write about them/recommend them...I'm going to find someone from this site. If I use someone from RottenTomatoes, you might not know who I'm talking about.

It's not a dig, it's definitely not nastiness, it's an acknowledgment that you've created an image through your frequently updated blog, an image of the other side of this site and of the film-going community that doesn't simply stand in line at the multiplex for the latest release. Cool bananas?

But until I find someone else who is more hardcore than you, you are my example at CHUD of the other end of the spectrum.
