What's most interesting to me is that - from what I have seen - there's almost zero buzz about a canonical Star Wars movie coming out in two months.
Right, that really surprises me, too. In fact, I had forgotten this thing even exists, and, like you, I couldn't care less now that I know it does.
I'll add a fourth.

I'll see this but I'm not expressing any kind of passion for it. Revenge of the Sith is good, the Clone Wars cartoons from Cartoon Network kick ass, but I don't think anything Star Wars related could get me excited now.

Wait I lied. Tie Fighter remake. Jedi Knight remake. Two things Star Wars related could get me excited.
You're definitely not alone, Devin. I have zero interest in this film. Hell, I'm not even interested in watching the trailer. I just don't care anymore.

I still hold affection for the original trilogy, but I don't know if I'll ever NEED or even want to revisit it anytime in the near future.
If Star Wars were to come up with something that looked legitimately good, we'd all fall back in line. A movie that worked in the way that, say, the original Knight of the Old Republic worked. Everyone would be drooling all over themselves. I hope it never happens.
Thought I heard that this just the first few episodes of the new TV show stitched together and sold as a theatrical feature. Just in case you needed a reason to be even less interested.
It's sad but true. The trailer does look pretty good and I did like the Clone Wars cartoons that were out on Cartoon Network.

But ever since those prequels, it's killed the passion. The only thing that's been keeping me in tune with anything Star Wars are the various video game incarnations that I play as often as I play video games. Which isn't as often as it used to be.

But like others have said, I will see this in theaters. And if it blows me away, I'll be screaming it out loud like I should. But if it's underwhelming, I won't be surprised. It'll be another footnote into the Lucas Meltdown Syndrome.
I would have loved to see this open in May, only to watch it get stomped by SEX AND THE CITY.

Speaking of grosses, will this thing make it over $100 million?

Possibly, but not by a lot.

If kids get behind it the movie might find some success, but that'll be the only market that embraces it me thinks.

My guess though is it will go the way of Speed Racer.
I've seen kids get excited about this, but I'm so damned tired of the Clone Wars by this point. Something we dreamed we'd see since the term was mentioned back in Star Wars and now I can't bring myself to watch any more of it.
As a kids cartoon, it should make a decent amount of money. You are all being blinded by how bad you feel you've been burned by Lucas.
Well, it's an animated movie in a franchise that has none. It's a prequel to a prequel that left a bad taste in the mouths of many. I can't exactly say I'm surprised to hear that people aren't excited.
As a guy who has seen all of the previous SW films in the theater, I'll easily say I'll skip this one.

Look, why tell this story NOW, and not between Clones and Sith? Who's bright idea was this? Why tell a story that we all know won't really have any implications regarding Revenge of the Sith and onward? Didn't Baldie McBaldcunt buy it in the end of the CN Clone Wars cartoon? This is bullshit.

How is it canon if none of the stuff in this movie won't be referenced in any way in Ep's 3,4,5 &6? Oh, wait. I get it now. Lucas is going to redo a lot of scenes in his "saga" to make sure he gets those Baldie McBaldcunt and the weird insectoid guy references in the there.
I love the smell of complete and total apathy in the afternoon.
I definitely think Star Wars: The Clone Wars will make over $150 million as their will be no competition for box office dollars by mid August.

Jakespeare, Speed Racer was a terrific film yet trouble attracting people other than anime fans which includes fans of the original series (Like Me) where as Star Wars is such a familiar brand name to people who don't even enjoy all the summer blockbusters, either take their children, or go by themselves. The film has a great trailer, the animation looks fantastic, and there is more of Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting bad guys just like in the 2 great prequels...Attack Of The Clones, and Revenge Of The Sith.
I saw a trailer for this in front of Speed Racer and all I could muster was a loud yawn. I discovered Star Wars a lot later than most folks (got into it hardcore around the time the last VHS set was put out - the really nice box set with half of Vader's face on the cover - I was 15), but my passion was just as deep. Bought a Princess Leia in Boushh disguise with my very first paycheck. Now all my figures are stashed away, most likely never to be picked up again. Hell, I sold my copies of the prequels not too long ago. The guy looked at me like I was insane, but really, I don't think I'll ever have the urge to watch them again.
My son is all over Star Wars right now, and I'll end up taking him to see this.
Devin, you can't just focus on all the negativity that comes out of the Star Wars universe without acknowledging the good that came out of the original series.

What, too soon?

For one, I've been assuming it covers ground that was already covered in the TV cartoon, and they've just spiffied it up for a cash grab.

Most Star Wars fans and former fans probably feel the same: we know how the story ends AND we don't really care about any of the characters (I can't see these characters as having anything to do with the Alec Guinness/Frank Oz/James Earl Jones creations I used to know and love) so why bother?

They annoyed the shit out of me when they turned jedi into superheroes, anyway.
Is this the same trailer that leaked months ago and officially debuted a couple weeks back,
or is this a newer one?

I can't be bothered to waste time watching it,
but for some reason I can be bothered to waste time posting this.
...zzz...zzz--

wha--what's up? What's that? Did you say Star Wars? ...oh, right...

...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz
This article title is misleading- when was it official? It sounds like Devin's reaction to the trailer was, "I didn't care a short while before, and I still don't care, and because of my pre-determined stance, I am unmoved." We needed an update to read that?
I'm more excited for the They Live sequel... in my mind.
I didn't not get a rise out of this because my love of Star Wars is dead. Quite the opposite once I decided to stop debating the series, thus providing a nice, cryogenic bubble in which I hold onto my last undaunted shreds of love for the saga.

No, I got nothing out of this because everything interesting that could be done with the Clone Wars was covered by Tartakovsky, and this whole movie has a "milking a dry teat" vibe that leaves me cold.

The Asajj Ventress stuff could be cool, and August might just be slow enough for this to earn a matinee, but, overused though it may be, the word "meh" is the only appropriate or accurate response.

Any vulnerable emotion toward the series one way or the other is contingent on whether Force Unleashed delivers.
I'm more annoyed that this will essentially the first few episodes of a tv show so its not like buying a ticket to this you're going to get a full story. You're going to get even less of a story than you got in any of the prequels.
It was officially dead for me when I saw RotS on DVD. I didn't mind it at the cinema, but rewatching it on DVD I realised I didn't care.

I doubt I'll watch the Clone Wars at the cinema. That's pretty damning considering stuff like Wanted is higher on my 'expectation gauge'.
The trailer is pretty good though. I'm right with you guys, i can't give a shit about Star Wars anymore. But the animation and style is kinda cool. I will see this eventually. Just not in the theater.
Nope, not feeling it either. Looks ugly and I don't give two tugs on the proverbial dead dog's cock about the Clone Wars or Anakin anymore. Pretty much the only thing that could rekindle the fire for me would be the bastards finally announcing a KotOR III - damn, that thing was more entertaining than practically anything else the series managed in the last 20 years.
Still enjoy watching the original trilogy, but my DVD's of the prequels are pretty dusty, and I have no intention in the near future to whip out the Pledge.
It looks fairly watchable. However I thought the history of the Clone Wars was covered exhuastively by the Expanded Universe comics and novels. To all indication, I've assumed that Lucasfilm considered the Expanded Universe Clone Wars history as "canon".

And now they're invalidating the entire history with this new cartoon series? I'am not sure I am down with that. I liked the Expanded Universe takes on Assaj Ventress and Quinlan Voss. This looks like another Lucas cash grab.
I'll only see this film if they have an alien named Twatfart in it.
Star Wars isn't dead to me. I simply accept no cheap substitutes or pretenders to the throne. My dislike of the new Indy movie doesn't mean that Indy is dead to me, similar to this situation. I'll probably never watch this movie, but I still love what I consider to be Star Wars(original trilogy and nothing else).

Would "Captain Queef" do in a pinch?

:zzzzz

wake me up when they announce KotoR3 or anything that isn't focused on the tediousness of being set during the Clone Wars...
You fucking haters!!!!!!

I got excited when I saw this in front of Kung Fu Panda. Maybe it requires the big screen for full effect.
I keep hearing about "Kotor", (that was just a separate video game, right, it has nothing to do with the previous cartoon?) Is it really that good?

Play KOTOR - it is that good. KOTOR Part 2 falls apart somewhat as it goes along, but it's also worth playing.

Without having to carry the baggage of the films, these games are allowed to present an age when the Jedi aren't fully formed or as strong as they had been presented in the films.
Those games kick the prequils ASSSSSSSSSSSS
post #40 of 78
The KOTOR games are leagues better than the prequels. Seriously, they're shamefully better.

Well it's good to have something to fall back on.

Both of my kids (8 and 2) are REALLY looking forward to this. I'm more than happy to take them to theaters to see it. It's a nice little bonus considering it was originally just going to air on television anyways.

Yep. Give me something new. I'm really starting to hate Anakin as a character. Give me TALES from: THE CANTINA, BOUNTY HUNTERS, or JABBA's PALACE. Anything but more of the same.

I'd even be willing to see a animated prequel set entirely on Han and Chewie before more of this Clone Wars stuff.

With that said, I'll probably check this out on DVD at some point, just... because...

But none of those situations have lotsa lightsabers in them!

It'll be lucky if it does over 50. Total lack of interest here as well. And no, it didn't go well in front of Speed Racer either.

Yeah. Somehow the Jedi went from being the coolest among other cool stuff to being the only interesting thing in a sea of overdesigned blandness. So they have to oversell them.

Anger. Bitterness. Cynicism. Oh look it's another SW thread on CHUD!

What's the sound of a broken record? Devin writing another SW article.

Hey look, it's a guy with "Fett" as his username defending Star Wars. It's really sad, Baba.

Yeah, Kreia's a more interesting and better written character than anyone George Lucas ever came up with. And Revan and HK47 are pretty damn great too.
