Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Page 2

Has the voice over work been completed?
I seem to remember reading during E3 that Bill Murray's dialogue hadn't been recorded yet, but everyone else's was in place.

Yes that too...I was thinking 20th anniversary of the sequel, 25th of the original. Numbers got all screwy in my head, as is bound to happen from time to time when I'm operating at work with very little sleep. Must switch allergy medication to decrease drowsiness.

I have been considerably less than whelmed by the GBIII trailers. I was more impressed by the short (fake) trailer from a few years back.

All this energy on recording dialogue won't mean much if they don't get the gameplay sorted out. Take all the time you want; get it right. I don't see a severe shortage of games in the near future.
OH SHIT

Damn, those character models don't look that bad in motion. Though I gotta say that if this trailer is a good indicator of what some of the cutscenes are going to be like, this game is in trouble. Pretty much all cutscenes in videogames have shitty pacing, bad shot framing, and lazy writing. And all of those problems are intensified when the game is trying to be funny.

Ghostbusters looks to be no different. Great comedy is what makes the original movie a classic and if this game doesn't even attempt to reach those heights, it's just going to be a 20 hours of nostalgia, which just isn't enough for me. And yeah, Aykroyd and Ramis worked on the script, but anyone who has read the final shooting script for GHOSTBUSTERS can easily say that the script really came to life during filming with all of the legendary improvising. I can only imagine that wasn't the case here.

All said, I still got a big smile on my face watching them dance down the street.
So, as suspected...Murray sleepwalked through the recording.
Anyone notice in the clip after Murray's "overtime" line that there are FIVE ghostbusters?
Interesting...

This looks amazingly mediocre. I'll still buy it though...
I have faith this could come together between now and June. The problems present in that trailer could be pretty easily fixed.
If you're referring to the problems I was talking about, I doubt they can be fixed. All the voicework is in the can and while cutscenes can be tweaked, what the hell does a game designer know about comedy?
The fifth ghostbuster is the player. You control a new member of the team.

The entire Monkey Island team as well.

I'd rather replay Grim Fandango than watch 98.7% of all the comedies or sitcoms released nowadays.

It's all about Day of the Tentacle.

Good fucking God, man. Get on that immediately. Grim Fandango first.
Good luck finding a computer that can play Grim Fandango. Everything I tried to put it on is too powerful to run it anymore ("Please set colors to 256" or something like that). No, grab Psychonauts first and then create a "Confessions of a Psychonauts Virgin" thread.
I managed to replay it like a year ago, so it is possible if you google stuff. You might have to end up doing the equivalent of cracking your own game, but it can be done.

Then again, I tried to set it up at a friend's computer, and he had to end up playing with everlasting terror that it might crash at any point, so it was very much 3 steps save oh are those pidgeons save and save again.
I got the impression that it didn't like running in Windows XP. Anyways, this was in 2006 and I gave the guy his CD-ROM back. Unless Gametap releases it, I doubt I'll get the chance to bask in its glory.

Back to Ghostbusters: in the hands of different developers, I'd be more inclined to believe that this game stands a chance of being good. The trailer is definitely a step in the right direction, but until I see some gameplay footage, I remain unsold.
It definitely can run on Windows XP. I'm not sure if I needed to get a new .exe or something, but it can run.

If you've upgraded to Vista though, I'd bet your chances are quite dim, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone already re-cracked it.

And yeah, no trailer for a videogame without extensive footage is worth anything.

DOSBOX is your friend for running old vga games.
The video Game draft can help you find old games, and has instructions on how to make them work.

Please let it be true! Game release on June 16, 2009! ...maybe.
Game didn't make me a convert just yet, but it's fun. Half the fun is of course just playing in the world and hearing the voices and familiar music, but the gameplay itself feels a little loose. Only got about 5-10 minutes with it, though, so this could all up be in the air. But I wanted to be completely blown away by it.
get your hands on a demo?

I'm just hoping for some fun. Ghostbusters is a funny movie, but I don't think it's some sort of touchstone of comedy the way some of these young'uns today do.
Well, not much can compete with "Oog Step In Giant Mammoth Shit," Jacob.
You had to be there.

Ghostbusters is really the first film to successfully balance comedy with a big budget special effects film. Many have tried to duplicate it ever since. None have done it as well or really come close. Even the same team of writers, actors and director couldn't pull it off a second time. It is every bit a touchstone of comedy. Basically, what I'm saying is that you're now dead to me, Jacob. I'm sorry.

I tried the Wii version today, which was a bit of an older build and apparently had some things that have been changed because they were frustrating (they were). But it's actually pretty fun as well, although it definitely doesn't feel like you're lassoing the ghosts with the remote. It tells you which direction to hold the remote in- left, right, up or down, and you do it until an indicator tells you it's ok to smash the ghost into the floor (by shaking the remote) and then it's time to throw out the trap with the nunchuck, Wii bowling style.

The one cool thing that this version has over the 360/PS3 ones is that there's a damage tally that you gain from destroying objects, and at the end of the level the bill apparently gets sent to Walter Peck.

Another awesome thing I found out is that every single developer of either version that I talked to knew Chud.com and was excited to talk to me. Really cool people, all of them- you can tell they're fans and really are amazed to be working on this property.

This sounds like it could make for some fun co-op mode busting. Or it could ruin friendships.

Probably not the nice fruit basket Peck was expecting.

The new "don't look in the trap" trailer makes me happy. I didn't know Brian Doyle Murray was doing a voice in the game.

I want this game to be so great. Is the Wii version following the same story? I could be convinced to pick this up on the Wii and a regular next-gen system if the Wii controls are implemented well.
It's really up in the air about the Wii controls. Some things required way more shaking than you really should have to do for simple commands, but they said they cut out a lot of those annoying bits. So hopefully the final version will control perfectly.

Oh, and every actor from the films that's in the game is the original person. They managed to snag everyone but Moranis, like was reported a while ago.

Each version will have a level or two that's not in the others, but for the most part it's exactly the same. The Wii just has co-op over the other versions, plus incredibly cartoony graphics- they're full on caricatures of the Ghostbusters, in fact.

Funny, though- in the 360/PS3 demo they had you fight the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, and in the Wii version you battled the Librarian Ghost from the first film. The dev shugged his shoulders and smiled when asked if Viggo would be in it...

Well it's not a knock out of the ballpark but at least it's not an out. Count me as still encouraged and anticipating. Thanks for the report Alex!
Great report. No co-op for the 360/PS3? That's tragic.

I wonder how the PS3's visuals stacks up against the 360 version. Every PS3 port I've bought looks worse than its 360 counterpart.
Seriously, this game would be glorious with four (or five) player co-op. Hell, even a competitive multiplayer where you had to trap more ghosts or do more damage (although that last one's in the Wii version).

Couldn't tell any difference between the two, at least nothing noticeable. I think you'd be fine with either version.
Excellent report, Alex.
Was there any mentioned about the whole "using the PSP as a PKE meter" thing, or did that get scrapped?
Didn't hear anything about it. Not sure how that would work, anyway- your character pulls it out in the game and you have to walk around, watch out for ghosts, and be ready to switch over to your proton pack.

This one's not a port as far as I can tell, it's a multiplatform development - much like CoD4 and Burnout Paradise.

Is no co-op in PS3/360 confirmed? Not a chance that it's happening? That makes me sad and angry. There's not much excuse to not have co-op in a game anymore, especially one like this.

But seriously, that makes absolutely no sense. Poor bastards.
No Co-OP? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

How did I not realize that before. I guess it just seems like such a natural co-op game.
This might actually make me trade in my 360 for a ps3....

Fingers crossed this is ether a mistake, or one of those times that Europe does not include the UK.

Co-op was announced for this. Where's it gone?

Even as a PS3 owner, and with this being a massive brand name title, it's hardly something i'd up and swap systems over - even if the Wii version looks mighty tempting.
