Apparently Aziz from Human Giant is joining the cast of the spinoff. But they buried the lead...

Paul Feig is joining the writing staff for season 5 and Toby is now an executive producer. Sweet.

I misread the title as Lost Season 5 Discussion (don't ask how, I'm not sure), good thing that show isn't getting a spin-off.

Back to The Office, bring on season 5. I hope Amy Ryan is part of the cast.

Perhaps a spin off show detailing the lives of the fictional documentary crew who film the office?

That's incredibly interesting and would make for a good special. Not a series. But then it would probably ruin the show because you'd overthink the style of it.
They're really missing out on not doing hobo version of Kung Fu with Creed as the spin-off.
So, anyone up for a game of Murder Checkers?

Feig is already on my Man Crush list for Freaks & Geeks, so this is great news. He also has been directing some episodes of Mad Men. Also, if you haven't read his books, Kick Me and Superstud, get thee to an Amazon!

I wonder how Craig Robinsons arrest is going to affect Darryl on the show.

Well, for one, Kelly's going to have two men to visit in prison...

That is waaaaaay harshing my mellow. I hadn't heard that.

Bump for the premiere tonight!

See y'all in a few...
Poor Toby. Jesus.
So awesome to see Jim give Ryan some shit when he came back.
Honestly, the only line that really made me laugh this episode was Creeds...

"That wasn't a tape worm."
Decent start. I loved the hell outta the "reveal" that Kevin wasn't retarded. The look on his face was fantastic.
Aw shit, you gotta be kidding me. This was on tonight?
Stanley as a Black Panther damn near killed me.

I thought it was really good but I'm mostly happy that we got a payoff on the Jim-Pam engagement so fast. I was worried we were going to get the rote "Jim shows up just as the kid who has a crush on Pam impulsively kisses her" thing.

Angela's talking head and Dwight saying they shouldn't be eating cake in the sex room were great bits.
Am I a total sap for really wanting Holly and Michael to get together?
Pretty decent start with everyone getting their own time to shine. Except for the last clip of Toby...that was just mean. Lack of weightloss mixed with weight gain = Angela pregnant?

I believe you mean the "Jim shows up just as the kid who has a crush on Pam and kinda looks like Roy impulsively kisses her" thing.
"Here, take this. I don't want you to end up with an unplanned pregnancy like me."

"She has a great ass."

"Under my Angerella, ella, ella, ay, ay, ay!"

"This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I haven't had a hard life!"

"Pam's not big on long engagements. I don't really remember all the details, but...something about some guy that used to work here?"

Solid episode. Michael Klump was pretty good, but couldn't touch the greatness that was Prison Mike. That engagement was really moving, made even better because Jim didn't really plan it out, but just decided "Screw it, I'm doing this."
The proposal caught me completely off guard. I also figured we'd have a half a season or so of Pam blossoming in her new life and Jim feeling left out. Hell, we still might.

Oh, we still might get that.

I think we will. That's what they seemed to be setting up last night, anyway. This show is very anti-neat, happy ending, which is one of the reasons I love it. I think a lot of viewers miss the point, in that the real story with Pam and Jim is less their relationship and more how their relationship serves each of them as individuals. Pam has developed a lot as a person in the past couple of seasons; Jim not so much. I imagine that they'll be playing with that difference and what it means for both of them, but esp. for Jim.
Oh, burn, Ryan, burn.
It was cool seeing Harry from Mad Men in there. I like that guy.
"I think I never really processed 9/11".

Holy shit. Happy it's back. It's certainly going to tide me over till 30 Rock returns.
Did they learn nothing from last season's 1-hour episode debacle? There were a lot of good scenes, but boy did it drag.

Michael tearing up the tickets did result in an epic facepalm. I was also happy to see a return to the "Michael has a crush on Ryan" gag.
Yea, I really wish they'd go back to the half hour episodes. The pace was always faster, and it even made them more re-watchable because jokes came at a quicker pace and it was possible to miss some of them. With these hour long episodes and the jokes more spread out, there's little reason to watch them again.
I do believe I've heard that they're only doing two hour-longs this season - the premiere and the finale. I agree with you guys - they're much better in the shorter format.
Really? I'm sure I read somewhere that there was gunna be like 6 hour longs because of the shortened season 4.

It really isn't. It just takes a lot longer to get there than in most sitcoms.

Point out some happy endings, Chief.

I don't know how he's going to answer, but I predict a total absence of the word "Toby" in the post.

That was the best line off the episode. I lost it.

I agree that there will almost certainly be problems coming but after waiting all summer I wanted to see that moment. I'm a big girl.

You are not alone, friend. You are not alone. Seriously, is anyone else just cringing at how that is going to turn out? I said it before last season, but it's a real testament to the writing of this show that, until Holly came, I was 100% for Jan and Michael. Now...shit, Amy Ryan is doing such a damn good job, the chemistry between those two is fantastic, and I'm just dreading where this storyline is going.

Happy about Jim and Pam though. I'm unclear though, did Pam officially quit? And Ryan sure did make a great transformation into this show's antagonist. He's like douchebag-personified.

They might be going the route the My Name Is Earl premiere went, just showing two episodes back to back.
"The show that will carry the biggest load is the comedy “The Office,” which Mr. Silverman originally brought to the network as a producer. NBC has ordered 28 half-hours of the show, well above the usual top network order of 24"

Probably right with the back to backs.
Man, guess people really love The Office.

That means at least ten of the episodes will be nothing but filler.
I didn't get to watch the premiere right away and was told by some friends that it was just alright. I thought it was pretty great. I'm down on the hour-long episodes as well, but I thought this one worked pretty well. Maybe it's because I watched it with some friends this time.

Was I the only one who loved everything with Kelly in this episode?

Poor Toby.

And Pam's new classmate/friend... yeah, he reminds me of this guy I knew who I had murder fantasies about. I already don't like the show introducing these tired romantic complications to begin with, but these psycho urges are gonna come back full force if the writers really plan to drag that kinda crap out through the entire season. I do appreciate them getting Jim's engagement done and done right from the getgo though.

EDIT: I love that Amy Ryan is back. No one is a fool for wanting Michael and her to get together!!! Michael actually manages to have normal interactions with her (until he ripped up the tickets, of course...).

Nah, I think Holly is the kind of girl who would flip for that kind of unabashed sincerity. For anyone else it would be odd as hell, but I can totally see that being something a girl being enamored to you for.

And yea, stop screwing with Jim and Pam. Their are enough paths for that storyline to go to. Throwing in a possible romantic foil while she's at college is just too much.

No.

"So...gonna look amazing."

I clapped when she shot Ryan down. She'd best keep doing that.
I would go so far as to say that Kelly has surpassed Creed as my favorite background character. Her jokes are always hilarious and note-perfect.
When Kelly's devouring Daryl right in front of the receptionist's desk... hahahaha.

I love how Daryl's just Jabba'ed out on the seat and taking it. He doesn't have to do a thing.

EDIT: When the episode began and we saw Kelly looking all wasted away in the background, my friend asked, "What's wrong with Kelly?" The moment she revealed that she was on that cleansing diet, I cracked up hard. Because I know people who have tried that and felt miserable.

Also, what was up with Meredith's face for the first half of the episode? She looked like she was covered in acne or something. And then it was gone. Was it just supposed to show the passage of the weeks?
Agreed on the love for Kelly. She took her place as my favorite background character after she lied about being pregnant to get a date with Ryan last year. She's so damaged and awesome.

Michael tearing up the tickets made me yell "GODDAMMIT!" at my TV louder than I have in a long, long time.
As others have suggested, I'm going to be watching the inevitable crumbling of Holly and Michael's potential relationship from between my fingers. It's going to be so, so sad when it doesn't work out and he ends up back in Jan's tentacles. ::shudder::
I'm trying to figure out what Amy Ryan has going that precludes her from becoming a regular. It seems like nobody from the show has a major film career that inflates their salary (save Carrell, of course), so I'm a little puzzled.
