DVD Review: The House of Usher

Nice work, once again. Thanks again for taking yet another one for the team. I re-read "Fall of the House of Usher" about a year ago, and was surprised at how short a story it actually was. Much shorter than I remembered it from my first childhood reading. If it were written today, with economy of language more prevalent over flowery, romantic era prose, it would be even shorter. I can't really imagine anyone making a feature length film out of this and not having it feel strained and laden with tacked on scenes to get it to the proper length.

Thanks, Ig. Appreciated, as always.

Honestly, this film is awful. It's just so listless, and it drags on for what feels like an eternity. At about 10 minutes in, I thought to myself, "Man...this is going to be a rough one." Then I looked at the clock on my DVD player and saw that I still had well over an hour to go, and a little part of me died.

Nice one, Minsky. I really wanted to go with an Usher joke in the review, but couldn't come up with anything good. Next time, I'll know to contact you.

That was supposed to be a "GUESS THE MOVIE!!" puzzle. I guess it's kind of obvious in hindsight.

I thought I recognized this and sure enough... http://chud.com/articles/articles/11...THE/Page1.html. And you're right... forgettable

Wow, this sounds pretty bad. I remember when I was 12, for whatever reason, they showed us the original Vincent Price Fall of the House of Usher in school, and it always stuck with me.

Wow...your score was WAY more forgiving than mine. This was just interminable for me, and I found almost nothing redeeming in this film.

Yeah, I already got rid of the DVD if that tells you anything about how I ended up feeling about it. I thought the acting was decent and I love Beth Grant in almost everything she does. The story was eh...

I think it got a better rating than it deserved because some of what I reviewed around it was HORRIBLE - Boy Eats Girls, Dorm of the Dead, Feast of Flesh, Severed Head Network - Anything looks good compared to those DVDs.
