Genesis: When in Rome 2007

I highly recommend this 3 disc set. The concert itself has super high production values and is great quality. The real showcase is the feature length documentary on disc 3, "Come Rain or Shine". It was a surprisingly honest and candid look into the making of the 2007 tour. I didn't know Phil, Tony, and Mike had so much input into the things like the design of the stage, what plays on the giant screens, etc.

There was one great Spinal Tap-esque moment where some designers are talking with Tony and Mike about possible stage designs. One of the ideas was for the entire stage to be on a giant elevator and go up and down as they played their songs. "I uh... I suffer from vertigo..." Tony says. One segment of the documentary follows a couple of roadies as they search out to buy a stool for Phil and Chester's drum duet. It turns out they bought the wrong one and this roadie guy throws a hissy fit about having to go back into the Ikea and get a new one.

P.S. the only way I could have been more pleased with this was if it had audio commentary throughout the concert. "Genesis: The Way We Walk", an old old concert dvd, had commentary by Tony Banks and Phil Collins himself. The only problem was that you could barely hear them. Like the people who put the disc together just didn't bother to turn up their volume. I would have liked to hear the band's reasoning behind the "floating Phil-head-through-hyperspace" that occurs during their 2007 performance of "Domino". Not that I'm complaining that was fucking awesome.

There are more Genesis DVD's than Evil Dead sets these days.
I hope those roadies found the right stool. Phil and Chester could tear them INSIDE OUT.

You don't need to tell me bruther! the only bad thing about this dvd set is that its only available at Wal Mart. But when Genesis and Phil are concerned, I'll break my moral convictions at the drop of a hat.

Are there actual song performances or is it all documentary stuff?

The first two discs are the concert they did in Rome, and the 3rd disc is the documentary. There's extra stuff on the first two discs but its set up in a shitty way! You have to wait for the little Duke icon to appear on screen and then you press enter on your remote! This set is not to be confused with the Turn it On Again dvd set that came out recently.

Oh yeah and there's a quick shot that shows a setlist that they had considered early on, including "Jesus He Knows Me". Clearly they scrapped that. Bastards.

They had to make room for the 10 minute drum solo somehow.
