Well, this is supposed to be an ensemble draft, Cole is a good choice. But, there's no way he wouldn't have been around in the second, third or maybe even fourth. Unless he's more popular than I ever imagined. In which case, we should all be in fear.
Mushnik, expect some shady characters of Italian descent to visit your company's offices with vague warnings.
Nothing against Gary Cole. He was on my list. 6th overall? It's clearly not a mistake so he's got some strategy I can't see.

Fuck! I killed it!

And I really really wanted Clooney. Fucking knew there was no way...

Gary Cole?

Well played, sir. Well played.
Gary Cole? Couldn't that wait until the second/third/fourth round? hmmmm...
Nice one, Nick. You fucker.
You guys are going to lay eggs when I draft my first guy.
Damon was my number one leading man. I thought, even at 22, there was a chance.

This will be brutal.
This is an ensemble team and the guy's had experience in numerous generes. I didn't want to go for the obvious players. Plus I love it when I see the guy work.
Sorry about the pics, guys. Wasn't sure where we supposed to post them.

Great list so far, but a lot of my picks just dropped like flies.
I got my 3rd choice, so I'm happy.
Excellent choice there Tati.
Wow, Tati. First round material? Really?
Nice one, Tati.

EDIT: Looks like this motherfucker is going for something.
Chewitel is leading man material. Shit. This is gonna be a long week. Looks like I'll go check out the B-Movies thread for some inspiration for my last 4 rounds....
Ejiofer was my sleeper. Fuck you.
Man, this is brutal. Ugh.
Thanks, and yeah. He IS leading man material.
Only three away from being able to get my pick, if he makes it I'll be one happy camper. But, with my luck he'll go right before me.
Can't say anything bad about picking Matt Damon. There are still some great choices on the board.
Didn't think Hanks would go so high.

I wouldn't go that far. But, he would've made for a killer secret weapon. Good job on remembering him.
Hanks is getting a bit long in the tooth for me, which limits his versatility. Good actor still, but as the center of a project, he's got less depth than he used to.
Fuck. Ejiofor was who I thought I could get at 25. You guys are killing me.

Also killing me, I'm actually getting buried with work today of all days. I think you guys are faxing me fake quote requests to slow me down.
Originally I was convinced that my first pick would be gone by the seventh player. I was wrong; it's still out there. Which means that I've set myself up for major pain and suffering if my choice is picked within the next couple of players.
Cole is my favorite pick so far.

Just cause it's weird.
If by weird you mean "awesome." I like it a lot because I agree with Ed; Cole's got an amazing versatility, like Downey or Hoffman (although he's not quite at that level, but who is), but he doesn't get the props because he's a character actor and a tv guy. This could be because I've been spending much of the week watching the fifth season of The West Wing, and that was a season where a lot of the recurrers (like Cole) got better stuff to do than the leads.

Cole is an actor who is always interesting to watch, even when he's not doing anything. It's a real measure of an actor, for me, the non-expert, if a performer can be engaging when he's not talking, when the focus isn't supposed to be on them. He's a dude who would get me more interested in a project if I knew he was in it and as was pointed out by Ed, he was the best part of "Talladega Nights" and one of the reasons to look forward to "Pineapple Express."
So does someone want to create a CHOSEN thread to list the actors already picked, or should I just go ahead and do it myself?
I PM'd Nick about it but I won't be able to update until after 11 starting next Monday. If you do it, I'd actually hold off until the end of the round before updating. If people want to see who's picked, they can read the thread. But I could be wrong.
Very interesting draft so far. Gary Cole is a huge headscratcher right now. It will depend on who the rest of the picks are. I would assume Cole would be the biggest name or he feared him gone in round 2. I would guess Hocken's Charlie Browns won't have an above the credits actor in the bunch which could make for the best company.

I would have loved me some Philip Seymour Hoffman and am a bit surprised he dropped so low as he's one of the most versitile actors in the bunce. He can make you believe he's Lester Bangs or that he should be fucking Marisa Tomei.

13 down w/ TLJ going.
And the draft comes to a screeching halt right before my pick. The suspense is killing me!

Literally. It's a condition.
Tommy Lee stings, but not that much. He's one of those actors who has a pretty healthy "crap to good shit" ratio, but that just means he's a guy who likes to work. I'd say -- and I say this as someone who hasn't seen Batman Forever -- when he's in a bad to okay movie, like "The Client"*, he's usually one of the more/most entertaining parts of it.

*Joel Schumacher should only direct John Grisham adaptations, because it's the only thing he's good at. Also, that movie has EVERYBODY in it.
For the CHOSEN thread, I figured I'd create an alphabetized list, since it'd be a lot easier than scrolling through the picks. That's how I'm keeping up with the picks so far, anyway.

This is my favorite choice so far, also. Cole is so momumentally underrated. I've been a fan of his since the Fatal Vision miniseries. Plus, he did a scary-good Mike Brady.
Also, Tati's the first to post descriptions of the movies. Nice.

(And I thought Redbelt was a lot better than the critics gave it credit for, but I have a huge hard-on for David Mamet.)

Actually, it's better to have them in the order in which they were picked. When people who aren't in the draft want to check it out, they're not going to want to scroll through seven pages of draft picks. And an in order list makes it so people can go "I can't believe Ed picked Gary Cole that early!".
But we'll know what round everyone picked their guys from the thread about the actual companies.
Alphabetical's the way it's always been done, if I remember right. This was a whole debate during the 70s draft.
Those aren't in order though. You'll see who everyone picked in round three, but how would you know the order?

Yeah i kinda have plots, characters, twists and everything planned out. It might be overkill now that i see what other people have written.
Sorry!

Exactly. The CHOSEN list is just meant as a reference for the rest of us so that we don't jump up and down in glee during round 4 only to realize our pick was actually chosen two rounds back and we just missed it when staring at an unorganized list.

Sorry!
I knew we were going to be doing that, just didn't know where, so that thread's as good as any. Off I go!

Schumacher's best work was D.C. Cab. Hands down.
I didn't see D.C. Cab, but on that movie, which I caught on cable recently, seems very reined-in for him, and his pulp, mass-market instincts are a pretty perfect fit for Grisham. I think Schumacher has an underrated talent for being an actor's director, although he lets his OTT instincts get the better of him far too often, even when it's straightforward material like Phone Booth or A Time To Kill (although the latter demands some over-the-topness, and really, what would that movie be without "YES, THEY DESERVED TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HAY-ELL."). And now I've gone and defended Joel Schumacher.
I admit to never having really seen the Grisham movies because I never cared for his books. Although I might check out The Pelican Brief because Pakula was involved.
Well, like I said, Time to Kill and Client work mainly on the strength of their casts. There's a great scene at the end of the Client with Tommy Lee and Susan Sarandon that always puts a little smirk on my face.

I would also argue Mushnik's point that Clooney's worked in every genre. Syriana and From Dusk Till Dawn aren't really horror movies.
I think I like the Cole pick best, too. It's bold and I think it's more in the spirit of this whole thing.
Yup, so far, besides mine of course, Cole is a left field choice. Which i like!
