Johnny Depp gives his hat away

This isn't Earth-shattering news, but it's nice to see somebody do something nice for a fan.

Now that I think of it, I've never heard any fan say anything bad about their experience meeting this guy. Either he's incredibly kind, or incredibly coked up in order to drown out those screeching girls.

Hope they don't need that hat for reshoots.

This isn't exactly a low-budget picture. I'm sure they could get another hat.

It might have been his actual personal hat, not a movie hat.

I have a friend who's actually an extra on the movie who said Depp isn't exactly spending all his free time hanging with the locals, but that he DOES make it a point to go over and say "hi" and glad-hand a bit with all the people on set.

Basically, it's a guy who's probably decent enough to know that a handshake from him is pretty cool to the extras, and it's no skin off his ass, so why not do it?

Well, I stand corrected. It WAS the movie hat! Not only that, but Johnny sent along a ton of shit from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for this boy's younger brothers and sisters, and a HANDWRITTEN note teling him to enjoy the hat. Here's an article where they interviewed the kid and got a pic of him with the hat.

Fucking stellar.

I think he was voted on some fan-poll last year as the nicest celebrity that fans had encountered. Happy to sign autographs, doesn't act like a dick, just a generally nice person from what I hear.

Well, it's nice of Depp, and I'm glad to see PE get positive press, but who the fuck is this guy? 'It's finally nice to see a celeb being nice and following thru on his promises'? Does Depp really owe this guy anything? Is his kid dying of cancer, or something?

Points to Depp, but this family should count their blessings. 'It's not exactly the easiest thing to make all five kids happy, but they did a good job.' Give me a break.

I did find it a bit tacky that the parents wrote to Depp's agent and basically demanded the hat.

Wasn't there a story last year about Depp going to a kids' hospital in his Jack Sparrow costume and reading the kids bedtime stories? He seems like a pretty stand-up guy all around.

Depp has been known to appear at random QuinceaƱeras and offers to pay for the college educations of the young women being celebrated. He's a beacon of hope in a world full of despair.

That one is true. When his daughter fell ill and was hospitalized during the filming of Sweeney Todd, Depp kept vigil at her bedside. To repay the hospital for their kindness towards him and his daughter, he went to the hospital dressed in his Pirates costume(he had it flown to London from LA) and read to the sick children for hours. Can you imagine being a sick little kid in a hospital, probably sad and homesick, and then Captain Jack walks into your room to hang with you? Wow, man. Those children must have been overjoyed.

That story is beyond fucking cool to hear, Harley.

Depp also pisses root beer, and all attendees are welcome to partake. He's a source of everlasting joy where hopelessness abounds.

I wish somebody had gotten a picture of that. Seriously. The smiles on those kids faces must have been priceless. You know, you hear so much bad shit about how everybody in Hollywood is bugfuck nuts. It really does my heart good to know that the guy isn't only a killer actor, but a genuinely good person. That's a rare combo. Too rare.

We got our fair share of mouthbreather's ma'am but I like to think we're not bad fellows.

Also, how you can beat the Warren Oates, Harry Dean Stanton, Ned Beatty trifecta! You can't. Take that Tennessee!

Hey wait a minute, we got.... shit, nevermind.

My years in retail electronics I saw a lot of country music guys come through. For the most part they were pretty cool and nice. Notably Garth and Johnny Cash. But there not natives.

You met Johnny Cash?!
Met as stood close to them as we loaded there stuff up. I generally didn't say too much let everyone else talk to them. Gosh hard to believe that was decades ago now. I remember the Cash's being more "hippy-like" than I would have guessed specially Roseanne(sp?). Flowers and stuff painted on there SUV and stuff like that. Didn't tip too well IIRC.
