Hello NYC/NYC Metro/Jersey-ites who wander into the city every now and then, I figure because there are a lot of us (it being a big movie town, or something) and because our Locations don't always say where we're from, I figured in the interest of community, those of us in the area should chime in on this thread, say 'How you doing?' and let everyone else know that we exist. On the off chance any get togethers occur, we can rest assured knowing that we did not forget anybody.

Doc Happenin - Short Hills, NJ; but I'm in the city every day

How about you?

Nice thread.

Working and living in NYC for about 4 years now. originally from Princeton, NJ.

I live in Trenton, NJ now, but went to school in NYC. Go there all the time.

So, the time is almost here again where I'm going to be making a trip to New York City. It's going to be the first week of August, and the specific dates are yet to be determined. Once I get all the details hammered down I'll be back to let you guys know, but you should start hopping onto the waiting list to hang out with me as soon as possible, because I'm kind of a big deal.

Live in the fairy-tale land of Scotch Plains, NJ. Work in the city, but coming back to Jersey later this month to start new job.
Alright, so I'm going to be in Manhattan on August 3rd through 9th. If any of you guys want to get together send me a PM and maybe we can have a Chewer meet-up.

Live in Weehawken, NJ but work in Manhattan.

Damn. Lots of folks live right in my area, specially you people from Trentin' and Jackson.

Live in Hightstown, NJ (the one square mile donut hole of East Windsor, also home of the highest concentration of Spanish/Ecuadorians in the state) but I'm in NYC all the time visiting friends in College.

Wait, would you count the citizens of Long Island as included in this area? If so, then add me to the list.

Yeah, let's try to pull something together. I can't do Aug. 3rd, but I can do Aug. 9th - is that the day you're leaving, or are you free?
I'd be down. If I'm not broke. Please god don't let me be broke.
I live in Astoria, by the way, and work in Manhattan.
Shucks, I'm feeling left out. I live in Jackson, work in Washington Crossing, PA (though I do drive through Trenton every day), and come nowhere near NYC with any regularity (last time I was in the city was for Toy Fair, and I hadn't been in the city for years prior).
Doc Happenin, I live in Connecticut...but I am only a 45 minute train ride to the city that never sleeps. I worked in NYC 13 for years, and I know it better than anywhere in the world.
Live and work in Crooklyn.

Live and work in the Catskills, but am down in the city whenever possible, usually a couple weekends a month. Looking at moving down there full-time in the next year to 18 months.

Lisa, do you think you could make it the 8th? That's a Friday night, and I'm not sure if you work on Saturdays. It kind of sucks I'm going to be there during the week because most of my friends work early every day.
I'm going to be traveling most of that week (video game stuff) but I could hang out on the 3rd or 4th if anyone's around.

Sure, I could get together and grab a beer with you somewhere. Alex, can you make it, or will you be out of town? Other Chewers up for an after-work beer?
I'd be interested in attending that get together.
I don't think I have anything that night. Would love to catch up with you all if I'm free.
Okay, sounds great! Also, I saw jcr39 today, and she's coming along with us (Eric, you remember her from the last time you were here).

All I need is suggestions of where you guys want to go for beers. I'm a pretty lightweight drinker, so I'm never too familiar with which bars are the place to go. So if you guys could make some suggestions, that'd be great. Or Eric, we could go to the bar we went to last time if you want - jcr39 remembers the name of the place and where it was. Or, if you have any place in mind that you didn't get to go to the last time you visited.

Doc? Tim? Iggy? Any other NY/NJers? Alex? Who else is in?
I'm going to be in Vancouver, unfortunately... so looks like I'll catch you guys some other time.

You should all go to the comedy show this time, though! (ahem)
Lisa, the place was Limerick House at 69 w. 23rd. There's also Social Bar around the 42nd street area.

I would love to join, but unfortunately I will be working a golf event in Michigan. Its gonna be the last time I am out of town until sometime in April.

The 8th? Hmmm...I'm going to be the scourge of the Saco River in Maine that weekend. Annual camping trip. Am available all week, though!
I'd probably be able to make the 8th.
The night of the 8th is more or less the only time I'm available because I'm going for a wedding and family reunion of sorts. Damn you Doc. Who goes to Maine?! And Alex... I'm ashamed.
ARRGGHH!!! I'm going to some family get together that weekend (wife's side)! Believe me, I'd rather hang with youse guys. Maybe next time, but take pictures!

Ashamed? You fucker, I'm going to be playing a top-secret game, and traveling to San Francisco and Vancouver for free that week. As cool as you guys all are, a man has priorities!

When you're sailing down a river on a PIRATE RAFT, complete with your room-mate dressed up like Captain Jack Sparrow and drinking from dawn til dusk, you damn well will go anywhere!
Come on, folks - any other suggestions, or just the possibility of those two bars?
It'd probably be crowded on a Friday night with college kids, but I'm usually able to find a booth/table at Shades of Green in Union Square. That's all I got.
I could give suggestions if I had an indication of where people were coming from and going to.

I prefer Lower East Side bars as they are closer to Brooklyn and more grimy. I also know the bartender who'll be working at a dive bar in Lower Manhattan.

Union Square is a somewhat central location, but I'm not really interested in hanging out with college kids.

I would also prefer to avoid midtown as the bars will be way over priced and/or filled with tourists.

There are cool bars on the Upper West Side, but they are far from my home so I would consider those a last resort.

Given all this, I'm happy to just show up to wherever you tell me to.
Diva, Limerick House was okay - decent enough, big tables upstairs. Your basic bar. That's the place on 23rd st. we went to last time, and it seemed easy enough to get a table. I just wanted some other options rather than those two places.

I'd rather avoid lower east side, since I don't prefer the grimy, and it's far from Queens for me, far from Jersey for jcr39 and Sonic (not sure where Rath is coming in from). Eric, where are you staying?

Yeah, midtown sucks - let's avoid that, and also the college crowd near NYU.

So would Limerick House be okay with everyone? 23rd St. seems like a fairly decent central location, I think.
I'll probably be staying on the East Side in the 40s, but I more than know my way around. 23rd sounds good. I can't guarantee I'll make it, though.
So, is this meet-up still happening on the 8th? If so, what time are people looking at and 23rd Street is good for me.
Yeah, let's just definitely do Limerick House at 69 w. 23rd on Friday the 8th. I get out of work at 5 PM, so I can be there any time after that. Do we want to do 6 PM, or 7 PM? What time works for most?
Is this open to all? I'd like to swing by but I don't want to crash something if everyone already knows each other.
I think it's open to everybody.
Limerick House is fine with me. That place was quiet enough upstairs, as long as there isn't another comedy show going on...

And I'll be at The Plaza.

Gotta pick up the GF's boy from camp at 5:30pm so anything after 6pm would be better for me.
I don't get out of work until 6 p.m., so can probably get downtown by 6:45ish.

Of course you're not crashing anything - any NYers who can make it, come on by! We'd love to have you along!

Good, then you'll need to save some money at an inexpensive Irish bar on 23rd St.

So let's figure 6:30 PM as a nice round number - okay by everyone? I mean, it's a bar, so I don't think we have to have anything carved in stone, should be fine.
I'm good with that. I'm bummed Doc and Alex can't make it again, but I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of you guys.
Yeah, I'm upset I'm going to miss out too, bro. Seriously though, if you're free tomorrow or Monday I'd be down to hang out and grab a beer or catch a movie or something.

Edit: Actually, just realized that tomorrow night they're playing Red Dawn at that bar I'm always going on about in Astoria. Definitely going to that if anyone wants to swing by. myspace.com/hellgatesocial
post #50 of 90
Red Dawn was last night? Because if so, damn it.
