Cinematic Titanic/Rifftracks

What the hell forum do I put this under?

Most of you guys probably already know that Cinematic Titanic is the reincarnation of the original MST (with Joel, not Mike) where nearly everyone on the show gets together (sans robot stand-ins) and does their thing....

The newest (second!) movie has been put up for download or mail-order.

Watch the trailers for Doomsday Machine and The Oozing Skull.

Mike is doing his own thing on RiffTrax, where he does audio commentary on current and past hits.

Anyone else check these out with regularity?

I've seen the first Cinematic Titanic feature - The Oozing Skull.

It was pretty damn funny. It definitely felt like the old school MST3K. The silhouettes were a great touch and they "physically" interacted with the film a few times. They also did a couple of "film breaks" so they could do a brief skit, although they remained in front of the screen in silhouette instead of like MST3K used to do.

All in all, good first effort. The only complaint many had was that there was really no intro. They just went right into the movie. I've heard that they fixed that for subsequent installments.

And Mike not only does RiffTrax, but he also has his own DVD series out called The Film Crew, which reunites him with Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy (from the last few seasons of MST3K). It's not a bad series either, but they don't do the silhouettes and they do only one "intermission" in the middle of the film to do a live skit of some sort. I own all of the DVDs that have come out so far. It's a pretty funny series as well, but I will admit some of the movies they do are Manos: The Hands of Fate bad.

I really need to see Cinematic Titanic and download some Rifftrax, but I'll second the love for The Film Crew. It's good stuff.

I download Rifftrax every now and again. The 300 one was pretty hilarious.

The Phantom Menace track was gold.

The Jurassic Park Rifftrax with Weird Al is a must-buy. Cloverfield is great, also... and The Matrix. Actually, pretty much all of them are worth it... although I have to admit that ones with Mike by himself are weaker than when he's with a good riffer or two.

I completey agree. I forget which one it was, but I turned it off after a few minutes when I realized they other guys weren't going to show up. The Spider-Man one wasn't that good, if I remember correctly.

I bought "The Oozing Skull," and was mildly let down by the results. The riffs felt overly rehearsed in a way that Joel's stuff rarely did in the MST heyday.

I'll probably give "Doomsday Machine" a try this weekend.

Just saw the trailer for Wasp Woman. Seems like it could be some good work.
The mentioned in there email there working on a MST3k 20th anniversary box set. I want mine now.

I recently watched a few Rifftrax and Jaws is good, but Star Wars is epic. A New Hope, to be specific.

I prefer CT to RiffTrax. Partly because I prefer Joel to Mike, partly because Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff are involved, but mostly because the movies seem more in keeping with the MST3K ethos than RiffTrax's do.

I think CT has better overall writing, but the five people on screen is too much for me. For some reason I get so distracted watching them instead of even listening to what they're saying.

Bump. Live shows in Atlanta this weekend. Looks like I have an extra ticket (4th row!) for the Saturday night show, if someone who is not a murderer would like to take it of my hands.
I've never seen them live before, so this is tempting because I'm free the rest of the weekend. Too bad I'm a murderer.

Huh?

They watch a movie and do the riffing live. I think Saturday night is a Blaxploitation kinda thing. Friday night is the island adventure one, I think.

Taken. And I am not a murderer. Yet.

Last night's show was so great. Highly recommended for any MST fans in cities where the tour stops. If you're in the Atlanta area, grab a ticket for tonight. Totally worth it for the LOLs.

Saturday night was very funny (thanks for the ticket, Gray). And man, was the movie absolutely awful--"Danger on Tiki Island". Hopefully they'll release it on DVD, because they had a lot of good moments during the film.

Joel cracked me up because he came out and performed in a suit. The rest of the guys were just wearing casual clothes, but Joel was dressed like a man that was on his way to church.

Amazingly enough that girl that played the main island babe is still acting today, and has won a couple of awards. Awesome. And the guy that played her love interest was the narrator for "The A-Team".

I'm watching Keith Olberman and all of a sudden he says they're on next, if you're around check MSNBC now.
Oh, cool-- Josh tweeted about that today. Thanks for the note.
I'm biased because I prefer Mike to Joel, but Rifftrax + THE ROOM = magic.
They came across really nervous and humble. It's kind of endearing that after all these years and all the praise their work's received they still seem honestly stunned that someone like Keith Olbermann would want to do an interview with them.

So who's picked up some Rifftrax shorts? I grabbed a couple over the last few months since they're only a buck each and couldn't help but splurge today when I saw that they just released two new dvd collections. If you pick them both up they give you a gift certificate to download two digital shorts, so anyone have any suggestions on the best ones?

My favorites so far are Christmas Dream (from the Christmas extravaganza, absolutely hysterical and terrifying) and Mr. Moto Takes a Walk. Check those samples, these are glorious.
