Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

My new 'provisional favorite album of the year.' There's nothing really new or special about the retro 80s sound, and the songs are surprisingly light, but it's just... better than other band's attempts, IMO. I love the balance, between guitar and synth, between sweeping hooks and warm mellow moments, and between long and short tracks (there are a few which exist mostly for transition or buildup, and it totally works. It also means dance songs that aren't 8-minute monstrosities.) "So Haunted" and "Far Away" are my current favorites, but really the album is best listened to as an album, all the way through.

Yeah, it's a good album...but some of the songs sound a little too alike to me.

It kinda reminds of the "Optimistic"/"In Limbo"/"Idioteque" bit of Kid A (mostly the first two). The songs blend together and sound similar, but it's all about the transitions,, changes in tempo, etc. I know it's cheating, though, to respond to "some of the songs sound a little too alike" with "but it's supposed to be that way!"
