This game brings me back, man. Glad I didn't buy Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting for XBLA, cause this one sure is purdy.
I'll probably ultimately be convinced to buy this by my younger self's obsession with it, only to find that my impressive skills have hopelessly atrophied, and I'm being soundly trounced by every ten-year-old on XBox Live. That will be a sad day.
This one is going to be a must-get for me. I'll probably go with the PS3 version since what I've played of the other version available on Xbox Live, it sucks to play with the 360 controller. It's a shame that matchmaking can't happen between the different platforms.

It's true. Ken used to be my guy and I was embarrassed by not being able to pull off the moves at the right time. After a while I got back in the hang of things but it's even worse when you're playing with a crowd watching, too.

Nachos- the controller does suck for playing, and you're probably right about the PS one working better. I moved the fierce punches to the right trigger (from its default of the left bumper! How the hell are you supposed to perform moves with one hand?) but it was throwing me off at first. Really needs a joypad.
Those graphics.. are so.. damned.. hot.

This is the first no-brainer XBLA purchase for me since Symphony of the Night
post #6 of 59
All I ask is that they tone down the difficulty. The last XBLA version was a cheatin' bastard and ultimately ruined the game.

Back in my day (SNES), we dealt with fierce punch on the left bumper and we liked it! You kids today and your sense of entitlement!

I used to switch it to Y (or X?) and leave the middle punch up there to linger. Same thing with kicks. Jabs and fierce, all I needed!

Back in my day (pre 6-button Genesis controller) we had to press start to switch between punches or kicks being assigned to buttons.

I was a Ryu man. I could run through the thing at maximum difficulty without losing a match. Too bad we didn't have achievements back then. People just had to take your word for it.
I never, not even back in the day, got the hang of playing these games on the console. I was just too used to working with the arcade's controller. This sure does look nice, though. I'm sure my skills are totally gone, but maybe I'll give it a spin when it comes out.

(I always played Chun-Li, personally. And in X-Men vs. Streetfighter (my preferred game) I used a Chun-Li/Cammie combo. People would come to the machine, lay down their quarter, laugh at my "cheesecake combo" and then look on in horror as I devestated their Ryu/Wolverine team in under 30 seconds. Good times)

I just got my ass handed to me by "BabyJesus9".

Holy crap, that must have been a pain in the ass.

That was why I invested in the Nintendo Arcade Stick. I doubt I could have been as good as I was with the hand controller.

I had a friend who was working for Nintendo's game hint line at the time, and he was the only one who could regularly trounce me, and he used Chun Li to do it. The fucker would spend the whole fight bouncing off my head. It was infuriating.

This brings up something I've noticed. Chewers have a knack for picking non-retarded Gamertags. You look at the tag and it looks normal and/or easy to understand. I don't think I've seen a xXx420dopezxXx and the like posted here yet.

Yes, a 6 button controller came out right around the same time so it was quickly acquired. Of course, there was only one so there was always a fight over who got stuck with the crappy 3 button one.

Well, 'Creature Corner' wasn't the most original idea around.

Damn Beta just froze my Xbox up.

When I was a kid I used to cheese as Blanka all the time. Nothing more fun than biting someone's face. But then I figured out how to do all the standard moves and got into playing as Ken. Love me some dragon punches.

And I really wish a Marvel Vs. Capcom Vs Street Fighter Vs Whatever game would come out again. I loved the shit out of those games. A few places near my high school used to have them and we'd all play huge matches during lunch and after school every day.

Yeah, I spent entirely too much time and money at the local mall with X-Men v. Street Fighter. I really liked the speed, and the tag-team option made for some interesting matches.

Same here.

Is there any offline multiplayer in the beta? I'd like to plug in a second controller, and practice and get a feel for the controller, before I go online and get obliterated in less than 10 seconds.

I loved all the Street Fighter/X-Men/Capcom/Marvel Super Heroes crossovers.

Yep, there is local multiplayer. I showed off the game to my 15 year-old cousin yesterday, and I'm not sure how thrilled he was with it. Course, I was beating the poor kid every time, but...
I'd always hear TORNADO CLAW! TORNADO CLAW! DRILL CLAW! DRILL CLAW! over and over from those VS. boxes in the arcade as I was over at the Area 51 or House of the Dead cabinets shooting the crap out of stuff. I was never particularly good at the tag team versions though.
I always, always preferred Capcom vs SNK to the vs Marvel versions, for one simple reason.

No pussy ass tag-outs. Nothing worse than beating Wolverine down to an inch of his life, when suddenly Akuma jumps across the screen and nails you with the tag-in attack, unloads a max charge tag-team screen-clearing mega-ultimo special move on you for 85% of your lifebar forcing you to swap to a partner if you're lucky enough to survive the onslaught, who is promptly nailed with tag-in attacks of the other guy swapping characters every 20 seconds and randomly nailing you with another dual special screen-clearer.

[/rant]

Seriously. I like the Marvel characters better and all, but fuck that game mechanic.
Capcom losing the licensing for the Vs. series pains my heart more by the day. Those games would be the crown jewel of Live for years if they were allowed a proper re-release.

*checks Ebay to see how much my "rare" copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2 is worth*

Still not worth selling.

Right now. I hate you even more than that prick kid that used Gambit/Strider Hiryu back in my arcade days....fucker was invencible.
Also, the bet was all good and great, until I found the "widescreen" option in the display menu....now, its a must buy.

I've got Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the dreamcast. That was pure gaming bliss.

Despite playing SFII to death on the SNES (and recently on Virtual Console) I think I ended up liking SFIII the most. The animation was gorgeous and it just felt great to play. Unfortunately due to living in a screwed up country, Third Strike was not released here for the PS2.

So Capcom's promising this is nearly ready, but no release date is finalized yet. I'll probably be much more likely to buy this than Street Fighter 4.
Really? I was going to say that with the stuff I've read about SFIV, I'm more tempted to pick that up than this. Of course, I'm sure this will be much cheaper and I have no intention of ever spending $60 on a fighting game so my choice may already have been made for me.

ETA, just saw that the ESRB has rated Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3. It's quite possible that they will be coming out on PSN eventually. If Alpha 3 is on PSN, I don't think there will be any question which one I'll be picking up (especially since it'll work on both my PS3 and my PSP).

Or Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

i'll definitely be buying this and SF4.

I'm more likely to pick up Barbie's Magical Herpes Adventure than MK vs DC at this point.

I must agree, though, I've seen it in action, and heard impressions, and SF4 still hasn't done anything to really sell me on it.

SF3:Third Strike will always be the gold standard in 2D fighting. This HD Remix looks good. Am I right in thinking the whole thing has been rebalanced? I love using championship E.honda's ultimate death slap abuse in the Anniversary Edition. I love that the character portraits would change depending on which version character you were using. EDIT: I really hope there is a 12-star ultra speed mode unlockable somewhere. The SNES version of Turbo was definitive.

The Vs. series should still be dominating the planet. Update the Capcom roster with Dante, Maximo, some 3rd Strike dudes (Dudley and Q), Leon . . . make Tony Stark an alternate playable character.

Why exactly can't Capcom get the Marvel license? I missed that part.

EA bought it once Capcom's time with it ran out. They pushed out the truly magnificent fustercluck that was Rise of the Imperfects, after which Marvel quickly jumped ship over to Activision.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix

Was waiting until twelve to download and play and I must say it's great to finally have a 'real' fighting game to play online. The interface and options for the PS3 version are perfect as they included the Quick Match option that was missing in MK vs. DC. Includes all the other options you'd expect as well (Create Match, Search Match, Tournament, Scoreboard Match). You can tweak the search for rooms/lobbys with enabled Akuma, speed pref, and mic chat. Thank god. All the options missing from MK vs. DC are here.

The HD graphics are sweet. I wish the framerate was something more along the lines of SF III (still the best looking 2D fighter out there, IMO) but I heard that's something they couldn't tamper with to keep the mechanics as they have been since the original.

So far everyone I find online is bad ass... no noobs yet.
If anyone wants to throw down, send me an invite (another inclusion), my tag is Ray_Penber.

Anybody get this for the 360? And does the D-pad suck for it?
Downloaded the trial. Waiting until after Black Friday before throwing down money on, well, anything besides food.

Obviously, there weren't a whole lot of features, and the fact that the trial is multiplayer only is kinda balls. But, oh, the pretty.

And I'm sure the whining is fast on its way, but I've never had the problems people keep saying they're having with the 360's D-Pad. Game played just fine.
Had no idea this was out yet. I can't get it until next week - damn it!
$15?! Look, just b/c I was willing to buy BRAID dosesn't mean I'm willing to throw down $15 on anything, esp if it's a 15+ year old game that's just got some updated graphics. Hell, JETPACK REFULED was only $5.
15 bucks is worth it when it's something you can potentially play endlessly (multiplayer). braid was was worth it, but as far as value, you play it once (for all... what?... two hours?) and that's it.
At least it was new and brought some gameplay innovation to the table. Aside from updated graphics, what's this one offering?
Multiplayer, bro. Seemless multiplayer against hardcore fighting game afficionados. If that doesn't get your 2D-fighter dick hard then yeah this game isn't worth 15 beans.

And yes,the Dpad on the 360 is shite.
For me, this game will probably really be all about the online co-op. Let's kick the crap out of that car ... as a team!
Capcom will get my $15 bucks. No question.
You know how much money I've spent on SFII in my lifetime? I'm not saying that the game won't be fun, but it's the principal of the matter; there's no reason this game should be $15, and in a gaming season as packed as this one is, it's going to have to offer something more than online vs. mode to convince me.
I think that I am just really jonesing for SFIV, so that may have something to do with it.

True.

anyone who has this on PS3 feel free to add me. I like to get schooled and win the occasional match. PSN MintyGames

downloaded today

amazing

as well

i hate the xbox dpad. fuck this thing seriously
post #49 of 59
I downloaded the demo for the 360 just to see, out of curiosity, how the Dpad would hold up and oddly enough.... I find it more responsive for this game than the PS3 Dpad. Am I the only one to think this? As far as Dpads go, which is all I use for 2D fighting games, the PS2 Dpad feels the most responsive.

The 360 I could never use for Soul Calibur nor Guilty Gear but for SSF2T: HD Remix it works perfectly. Where as with the PS3 dpad, for some reason, even the simplest moves I have trouble performing... like a dragon punch. Wtf?....

Also. On a side note. I love/hate playing this game online. 7 out of 10 times I encounter someone who plays with Ryu/Ken/Akuma, loses, then switches off to Blanka/Guile/E Honda and goes 'cheap' nonstop. ARGH! Must get better....
the dpad sucks because its way to easy to accidently hit up or down while tryin to go back or forward

Akuma/Blanka and DeeJay are my favs.
love this game.
