Wait till the day is over and pick the people you really regret not taking or had a hard time doing so.

Ok, of the people who weren't drafted. I seriously considered Kevin Spacey, Frank Langhella, Robert Forster, The kid who played billy elliot, Vincet Cassell, William Devane, Stacy Keach, The guy that played "Drake" in aliens. And a few more that i don't remember

Of the ones drafted, Weisz and Hirsch hurt the most. Dillahunt and Reynolds were considered. Ed Harris was a backup to Hinds, Aaron Ekhart to Ejiofor. Thomas Jane was my first pick for the Fillion slot. His backups were Mark Ruffalo and then FIllion. Rachel Mcadams was another one i was dead on. I had to get Gugino to replace her. Though i considered Cate Borsworth for a while.

I was 100% on Ejiofor for the first round.

There were so many people I wanted, especially towards the end, all of whom were on my original "List O' Names"

Sean Bean
Samantha Morton
Kelly Macdonald
Djimon Honsou
Tim Robbins
Nicky Katt
Dominic West
Bruce Greenwood

A few others, like Juliette Binoche and Holly Hunter, I didn't think of until it was too late.

Tom Waits was my WTF? pick.
I'd considered Bean and Rush, and it was McShane vs. Brian Cox right down to the wire for me. Samantha Morton was on my radar too.

More:

Jake Gyllenhaal
Sophie Okonedo
Rose Byrne
Samuel L. Jackson
William Sadler
David Morse
Tom Wilkinson
Oh, and Jeremy Irons.

Morson! I completely forgot about the guy! How the fuck did i do that! i would have picked him round 4 or 5 tops!
And i almost pick Wilkinson today, but he's old! I couldn't have so many old people.
Did anyone pick Benicio Del Toro? I thought I saw his name mentioned in one of the threads but I don't see him listed. He was on my list for quite some time but I couldn't make it work with what I had in mind.

People it hurt to lose: Ejiofor. Reynolds. FICHTNER (I thought I had a lock on this guy). McAdams.

People I was considering: Kevin Kline, David Wenham, Gerard Butler, Selma Blair.
Jeffrey Wright
Clancy Brown
Daniel Craig
Kurtwood Smith. He would've been my Ed O'Neill back up.

I could seriously make an amazing Repertory Group out of leftovers.
Willem Dafoe
Kelly MacDonald
Penelope Cruz
William Hurt
James McAvoy
Liam Neeson
Joan Allen

For my Peter Stormare, I considered heavily Fichtner and Jason Isaac.

My second lady was Marie-Josée Croze, who can out-act nearly every lady in this draft, but I had to get Stringer Bell, and no one would have taken her. Most people know her as the naked assassin from Munich or the therapist from Le Scaphandre et le Papillion, but she's a local actress with a lot of good stuff in her resume.

I took Stamp, but considered Colm Feore and Patrick Steward. Hesitated between Theron and Weisz, and had the shot at both. Wanted Downey as troupe leader. Other randoms; Sean Bean, Bruce Greenwood, Jeffrey Combs.

Took Gary Oldman over Ralph Fiennes (can't understand why he was still available; he's a 1st/2nd round pick) and Tim Roth.

And yet, Channing Tatum was drafted before these guys....
Names I haven't seen mentioned
Jeffrey Tambor
David Cross
Martin Freeman
Jason Segal
Jay Baruchel
David Krumholz
Michael Cera

Today I was torn between Cross, Cera and Jonah Hill.

My original WTF pick for the 7th round was...Jon Stewart.

There were four picks that were the hardest for me not to pick up.

Two were over the last two rounds when I passed up Jeffery Wright and Kevin Spacey. I badly wanted those two but I decided I needed the extra lead with Brody and Emerson was a from the heart type of pick. I still greatly regret not taking those two.

I also regret not ending up with Ralph Fiennes. I originally drafted him first, went back and changed it to Rufalo and then just couldn't find a way to fit him in after that. I love the guy and next year he'll definitely make whatever squad I pick.

The final one was Lauren Graham. I fully intended on taking her, but once this company started getting assembled, I just couldn't fit her in. It's a shame. She's underused, has killer comic timing and can spit dialogue worthy of a Mamet regular.

Others I just couldn't work in-
Andre Braugher
Ben Kinglsley
Jim Beaver
Parker Posey
Tony Shalhoub
Tom Wilkinson
Emily Mortimer
Cheryl Hines
and some others that I'll remember after I unwind from work a bit.

Edit - Actually, Freeman, Krumholz and Cross all crossed my mind too.

This seems the place to put it. It matters nothing and nobody should give a shit, but here's the company I put together in my head the past week, the criterion being each was available at the end of the day I "drafted" them. Turns out y'all liked 4 of the 7, too.

1. Sam Rockwell
2. Ed Norton
3. Carla Gugino
4. Brian Cox
5. Marisa Tomei
6. Richard Jenkins
7. Taye Diggs

Pretty happy with that, gotta say.

Jenkins was the one I really had my eye on the last 5 rounds, having just seen THE VISITOR this weekend. Which needs to be seen by everyone. Everyone. He better damn well be remembered come awards season, but there's almost assuredly no way he will. And that will be the crime of 2008.

Tomei's recovered nicely from the "She got the fucking Oscar!?" backlash, delving into some excellent dramatic work the past 5-10 years. Can't forget she won the Oscar for a comedy, either.

And Diggs is another one who's bounced back and forth between small film roles and supporting TV parts over the past decade, but he impressed the hell out of me with the largely unseen DAYBREAK. Bona fide action lead, but with surprising dramatic chops and a subtle sense of comedic timing. And he's got a musical theater background, if something went that route...

Very surprised nobody took ADAM Baldwin. If there were 8 rounds, no way he'd still be home on Saturday.

Anyway, it's been great fake-sweating over picks. It's also nice being reminded just how many good actors there are out there (and I have a new-found respect for casting directors). Now I get to sit back, put my feet up, and read everyone's film plans, a project I have no plan or desire to undertake, despite the ideas that couldn't help start bouncing around. Right, fuck that. Your stuff is gonna cost me enough loafing time at work as it is.

Did anybody take Jason Isaacs?

This was one of the more glaring omissions especially with the crop of 25-30 year old males not too deep.

Some I had on my list not mentioned
Ron Livingston
David Duchovny
Kristen Bell
Simon Baker
Kerry Washington
Clancy Brown
Elias Koteas
Gregg Henry
Eddie Izzard

I didn't draft an older guy/gal but would have loved
Robert Redford
Alan Arkin

Billy Crudup

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

He's gonna happen.
Before Walken dawned on me, Jackie Earle Haley was gonna be my go to "This guy gives me the fucking creeps" guy.

Also considered him. Pumped to see him as The Comedian.

No, but I came close like 3 times. More so than Fichtner.

And glad to see that I wasn't alone considering Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Thinking about it, I would have taken Tony Leung as a early round pick if the guy acted and spoke English.
Guys I was gonna get:

Steve Zahn
Jennifer Aniston
Joan Allen
Kevin Kline
Michael Keaton
James Gandolfini
Gene Hackman
I'm surprised Hackman was left on the field too. Much like Fiennes.
Hasn't Gene Hackman retired? I remember reading something about that not long ago.

This draft has been very fun as a spectator. All but one of my shadow draft got picked, I'm surprised that no one took Ted Levine.

Keaton was a last round consideration as well.

Others on my list...

Morgan Freeman
Kevin Bacon
Jim Carrey
Steve Carrell
John C McGinley
Joey Pants
Adam Beach
Patrick Warburton
Thomas Haden Church
Nick Stahl
Amanda Peet
Leslie Mann
Kate Hudson
Salma Hayek
Penelope Cruz
Amanda Bynes
Connie Nielsen
Thandie Newton

Carl Weathers and Terry Crews battled over my football slot, Asia Argento got taken out by Danny Trejo to earn the 6th spot, I originally planned to open with Will Smith, before Bellucci I thought I was stuck picking an actress between the likes of Milla Jovovich and Rebecca Romijn, and had mother-fucking Arnold Schwarzenegger on the list representing Body-building

Oh, what could have been.

And Savage, if I had thought about it a little longer and ran with my 'great foreign actors' theme, Tony Leung would have absolutely been my first rounder. I don't even give a shit if I would have ended up with people who don't speak the same languages, I'd work around it.
I would have taken Crews instead of Weathers. And Argento was a cool pick for your draft, but Jovovich is a black hole of talent.

I tried to tell him. But he wouldn't listen!
My hard-on for ROCKY turned the tides in favor of Weathers on that one. I was actually going to break my own rules and put Crews in instead of the Argento/Trejo slot, but decided to stick to my guns. Argento/Trejo was the hardest decision for me, I gave up and figured I could use Trejo easier in most the films.

Oh yeah, Alisha Keys was another potential girl, and before the draft started my comedian potentials were Bill Murray and Jim Carrey, but I just couldn't see them working with anyone else I had in my company at the time.
I really wanted Crews too, but he obviously didn't fit on my crew. If I had skewed towards comedy, which I almost considered, he definitely would have been one of my picks.

My brief consideration towards drafting all Asian actors was centered around wanting to draft Tony Leung and Andy Lau.
The remainder of my list:

Kevin Spacey
Keanu Reeves
Jake Gyllenhaal
Joaquin Phoenix
Hugo Weaving
Jeff Daniels
Ron Perlman
Bryce Dallas Howard
Paul Dano
Charles S Dutton

Fact of life #5987: Terry Crews would have murdered Ivan Drago, sparring us Rocky 5, and would have used the Predator as toilet paper 30 minutes into the film.
I just realized, I could have made a REALLY FUNKY team, too.
Whoopi Goldberg
Jackie Chan
Fred Thompson
Mandy Moore
Samuel L. Jackson
Asia Argento
Ice Cube

They would all be directed either by John Woo (action, sci-fi) or Spike Lee (drama, comedy, horror).
Michael K. Williams
Timothy Olyphant
Ian McShane
Paul Bettany
Oh shit. I completely forgot about Bettany. I definitely would have picked him. He must still have the stink of The DaVinci Code on him.
I'm amazed I forgot about Bettany, because damn near every cast I would post in those "Recast your Favorite Movies for 20XX" would have him in it.
Dennis Hopper.
I nearly drafted Susan Sarandon, but I didn't want the entire cast of Speed Racer.
