You DID read the last paragraph of that article, right?

But with the title set to hit DVD in December, it's now apparent anyone hoping the Batman sequel would soar to "Titanic" heights will be disappointed. "Dark Knight" already ranks as the second-highest-grossing movie ever, after "Titanic's" phenomenal $1.84 billion -- a mix of $600.8 million in domestic boxoffice and $1.24 billion in foreign coin registered in 1997 and 1998."

I think it's still possible. I was being optimistic yes. But I do believe and hope it is still possible. I would love to see Titanic die. It infuriates me that a boat movie is the number 1 movie on the Earth.

I know right? Fuck boats.

Judging from the third act of The Dark Knight, even the Joker hates them.

I love The Dark Knight, but Titanic is still the superior of the two!

Fuck you in advance!

No, you're being attacked by people who think it's fucking stupid getting excited over money you'll never see.

Enjoy your last remaining moments here.
See, these people here have been MOCKING you. Now, I know your mind can't necessarily comprehend that, but that's what they've been doing whether you get it or not.

Its been fun, guy! And please don't respond with the obligatory "You guys are assholes" post.

Oh, and from you're post on you're MB's:

Then you will rejoice for some more minutes: anda a tomar por culo troll idiota.

Now, the exit please.

On topic: nice the re-release and then we should have some talk form Nolan himself about Darker knight (I like to call it that way).

Let's look at some of the more intellectual responses from the source of The Dark Knight sinking Titanic article. Take note you might learn something friggin arse cunnies.

nothing like having a freshly dead dumb ass celebrity in your movie to help sell tickets!

Zombie Hell 5:32pm, September 11, 2008
I'd love to see Titanic knocked out of the top spot. Just not sure if can muster another 70 million after the release of the dvd. That's asking a lot.

javard5455 6:42pm, September 11, 2008
so a sinking ship vs. the Batman. why is this taking so long?

Justin_Voorhees 6:45pm, September 11, 2008
the inflation thing is stupid because then you have to do the same for star wars and I know that would be number 1 with inflation.

KingOfHorror 7:27pm, September 11, 2008
The Dark Knight really was GREAT cant wait for next Film in Franchise!
I'm glad it's coming back out - I loved it, for the most part, but I didn't see it in IMAX. I'd like to experience that under the influence of whatever I can get my hands on.

I would love to see a Best Picture nod -a win seems far fetched, but to see a Batman movie up for BP, well, the geeks will have truly arrived.
I'm serious by the way, deadly serious. Boats have no place in film entertainment.

Oh talk dirty to me.

That one sentence of absolute hatred made me start lactating and percolating.

If you said one more thing that was mean to me. I would probably finger my gooch. I never knew there was a CHUD KKK. Sexy.

Now back to the subject at hand. 70 million to beat Titanic? It's entirely possible with DVD sales.

...
...
...

Sigh.

Anyway - I would not be surprised if The Dark Knight gets a Best Picture nod. I may have said this before, but it's a quality genre film. It would not be the first to get that. Remember that Return of the King was not only nominated, it won.

The fact that it's a comic book movie would make it a first. But only marginally.

Technical stuff? You bet. Pfister will definitely get a nom and he fucking deserves it.

But also, Supporting Actor. Screenplay. Picture. Even Director. These are all possibilities. And don't be surprised if they try to squeeze Eckhardt in there too.

One of the major differences between the Dark Knight and Begins, imo. Is that Begins is desperate to explain everything, there's a technical reason for everything and every tool we see Batman use is given it's own little vignette on its creation. It's a vaguely autistic approach to Batman which is just completely removed from the Dark Knight which actively refuses to explain anything.

I think that's the major tonal jump for me, having one film go into agonising detail about ordering parts from different chinese companies to make the bat helmet and having the next film give the main villain the magical ability to place four peoples DNA onto a playing card and then off them in public without even a hint of how it's done.

Huzzah! Some intellectual conversation. Very good points here. People have complaints about both extreme approaches. Nolan either over-explains (BB) or leaves too many questions (TDK). Makes me wonder what was left on the cutting room floor for TDK. Maybe part 3 will be more balanced? I personally don't need everything spelled out for me, but there are more than a few suspensions of disbelief, as many have pointed out. I'm hoping the DVD is stacked with material to mull over and would really like a Nolan Bros commentary this time. TDK has so many moving pieces (thematically and plot/character-related) that I'd love to hear some additional thoughts from the film-makers, especially on specific decisions and scenes.
I just assumed that the overt explanations in Batman Begins were Goyer's contribution to the script. The problem is that the Dark Knight is completely hamstrung by Begins. Begins establishes a tone and principles which are just in complete opposition to the creation of a great comic book film and as such the Dark Knight feels like its either ignoring or betraying a lot of the creative choices made in Begins.
I watched Begins the other night, and though I was always aware of it, I was amazed by the all around contrast between that film and TDK. From the tone to the look, everything was pretty vastly different. That could explain his aversion to overloading everyone with details in TDK.

It's very obvious Nolan has no intentions of making the same film twice. That makes me all the more curious to see what he (hopefully) comes up with for a third.

Or it just breaks free from the shackles and assumes the audience has enough info from part 1. BB does a ton of world building. TDK recognizes there isn't a need to dwell on that anymore and we get a juicier story in return. We get more WHY and less HOW.

I thought it was apparent that once they started thinking about the sequels they were going to regret all off the "grounded in reality" rhetoric. The logic that because Batman doesn't have superpowers everything has to be explained is a bit ludicrous. Like you said it definitely caught up to them in the sequel when people started saying "You can't have it both ways."
Which is all well and good, but it makes The Dark Knight feel more like a remake than anything else and it makes Begins look even worse in comparison. Say what you will about Burton and Schumacher but they both made two films that felt like they existed in the same world and had elements of interconnectivity.

The Dark Knight feels like Batman Begins as a Pygmalionish experiment.
Honestly, I don't feel like Batman and Batman Returns are in the same universe except for Keaton.

Visually there's a disconnect between Neo-Noir Gotham and Dr. Calligari Gotham. But the tone of the films is pretty consistent between them.

You'd rather that TDK was constrained, instead of improving?

The 1st entry in a intended franchise (even/especially if it's a reboot) is always an experiment.

I'm fond of both, but I disagree here. RETURNS is unleashed Burton, much sillier... and much deeper.
I'm not stating a preference as much as I'm speculating on a hypothesis. I think The Dark Knight is the best Batman film we'll ever see, I just think it's a shame that it really works better on its own rather than with the film which led into it.

I'll give you that, but watching them back to back (which I don't recommend doing because you'll realize just how torturous those films actually are) they just don't seem connected. Although Returns was technically the sequel, the only way you'd realize that is by Bruce mentioning to Alfred he let Vicki Vale in the Batcave.

Completely agree. Once we have The Dark Knight on DVD I strongly doubt I'll every have the desire to watch Batman Begins again. I hope they don't make another Nolan/Bale installment because there's nothing they can do that will top this film.

ETA: And when I say "top this film" I'm not implying I think it's the end-all be-all. If anything I was underwhelmed by it, but I'm not saying I wasn't entertained.
