Firefox 3 hates CHUD

Thread Starter
So, I visit CHUD today and discover the site blocked by Firefox 3, reporting that it is an "attack site".

More malware hidden in the ads?
Yeah, I'm getting the same thing...on EVERY FUCKING PAGE.
Hmm, I've got Firefox 3 running and I've had no problems. What add-ons are you running?

Although on IE at work, I constantly get pages loading as either nothing but small boxes in the upper left corner of the screen or just loading the ad with a number like "740x60" above it.

Ditto.

ad-block plus? could that have something to do with the 'turn off your adblockers' message earlier this week?

Ditto. Not having problems with Safari at home, and haven't upgraded to FF3 at home yet. Have noticed more aggressive ads this week generally, more popups on here. There was something yesterday so obnoxious I almost started a thread about it, leaping out on every page. Between that and the little box issue...
Management takes a dim view of threads about how much you dislike the ads. I've been getting the same problem as DIcksonand M, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. It is a bit annoying.

I'm running AdBlock but have it disabled for CHUD, and I still don't have the issue that mastronikolas and Jake mention.

Google doesn't like us either:
I'm getting the same message. There's issues with IE (not sure which version but it's old) in work, every time I open up CHUD the browser switches from full-screen to window.
Ok, that's it. I blame AICN- it's all because Devin took that shot at Harry.

StopBadware.org's entry on CHUD lists it as a "Code Yellow" page reported to them by Google.

The specific reasoning is conveniently vague:

Google has found that some portion of www.chud.com/ contains or links to badware or otherwise violates Google's software guidelines.

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?

Over the past 90 days, www.chud.com/ did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.

edit: A&P beat me.
Right. Fuck this place, I'm off to SuperHeroHype.

(lol just kidding)

I'll use IE until we figure out the issue, but I'll do it with much growling and stomping of feet.

EDIT: Eh, I just set Firefox to not notify me when a site is listed as an attack site. But just as a sidenote, no Adblock plugins here, just regular ol' Firefox 3.

I sent an email to Nick around noon today when I got the warning. I seem to remember such a problem occuring some time ago where an add on the site had so malware/spyware on it.
Just make sure not to complain about the ads that are infecting your computer.
I never thought of adblock as virus protection software, until now ...
Well, the Google Safe Browsing thing says the last date anything happened was June 28th, and that's the only instance it's ever had. My anti-virus program has nothing quarantined from the date, so I don't know, maybe a false alarm?

Why is google lying to us??

Dickson has stumbled upon a conspiracy to topple the internet. Only Gene Hackman can save him now!

Same here (last week at work). We'll see how things go this week.

Just got a PM asking if it was safe. Guys, stop fucking around!
Nick is aware of this right? Because you definitely don't want google to tag your site as unsafe!
I had my antivirus pop up with a trojan warning about a week ago, while I was browsing a few sites at once. I assumed it was one of the others at the time, but in retrospect, it may have been from CHUD.

Hope this gets sorted, because it makes searching for specific articles on Google more of a hassle, as they won't link directly to the site and only provide a long URL for you to copy and paste. That can't be good for traffic.
I really hope Nick addresses this somewhere. I make sure my ad-blocker is turned off when I come to CHUD, even more-so after Nick's angry blog and the TURN OFF YOUR AD-BLOCKER title last week, and now I'm getting virus warnings about....the ads. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, because I don't want to get banned, but I also don't want to have to buy new virus software.
Hey gang, do me a favor. If you do get a virus warning while visiting CHUD, take note of what page you're on, what ads are loaded and send that info to me.
Well, seems like they cleared things up, as neither the main site nor the forums are being blocked like they were yesterday.
Google still hates CHUD
We're working on it, guys. Temporary hiccup and we'll get it cleared up ASAP.

"Congratulations, you've been selected to receive a free iPod touch" give my brain a virus.

No problems here either, but...

For those who are concerned about your browser being hijacked or what have you, Windows users, use this

http://cybercoyote.org/security/drop.shtml

Dropmyrights.exe will limit your user rights so it is pretty, pretty, pretty, difficult to install / run any applications launched via the browser.

Check out the link and try it out. I personally use it for my browser and email program.

Interestingly enough, when I google Gorilla Nation and spyware I see where plenty of sites have had problems (back to 2003). I've been having a hell of a time removing vundo from my work pc (courtesy of CHUD).
CHUD is back on the google shitlist ...
(this was using the Google Chrome browser, but the list comes from google servers)

CHRIST, YES. Why the fuck does it keep DOING THIS?!
It also seems to hate IE8...but that might just be a beta thing.
For those using chrome just check how much RAM a single forum page is consuming. Is this because of the ads?
