I would watch a Freddy Vs. Richard Dreyfuss movie.
Why the hell is Dreyfuss doing this? did he get a tuck load of cash?

That's why he does anything anymore... and he'll gladly admit to it!
Why in the hell is License to Drive listed on there? Are there a lot of people that are going to get hooked into going to a horror convention based on their love for License to Drive? Listing Mr Holland's Opus under Dreyfuss I would understand, but License to Drive?

Don't cry, Richard Dreyfuss fans! He canceled in Cherry Hill, but he's back (with Burt Reynolds!) for Chiller!

Get a whiff of the sadness parade.
A friend of mine went to this. I'll have to ask her if she met all three of the Jasons that were there.

Also, you would think the organizers/promoters of a horror convention would spell Freddy Krueger correctly.
Bet Danny Woodburn hates having his picture next to Beetlejuice. Polar opposites of the midget community, I say.

Chiller is the Comic-Con of horror shows. It's so far removed from the original genre.
I can't believe I missed Monster-Mania, though. I've gone to a few of those if only because it's a ten minute walk from my house.
Aww, man. I missed The Lost Boys reunion. Laddie was there! No Nanook, though.

Bob, where you at? I got drunk as shit at Monster Mania. You missed a good time.
I'm pissed I missed the LICENSE TO DRIVE reunion.
There will be an unofficial Summer School reunion at Chiller, though. If 2 people count as a reunion.

The creepiest moment at Monster Mania had to be the band who did the "Cry Little Sister" song from Lost Boys reuniting to perform an unplugged version for the crowd. Oofa.

And from what I saw in the announcement... no Jami Gertz. Can't have a proper Lost Boys reunion without Star, yo!

Kind of sad to see Burt Reynolds and Richard Dreyfuss are on the convention circuit. I've been to the autograph tents at Chiller a couple of times, and about half the celebrities there seem genuinely happy to meet the fans (got to talk art techniques with Gary "Radar" Burghoff for about ten minutes at his stand!). The others have this look on their faces that only comes with the realization that "their phones have stopped ringing" - i.e. careers' done.

When Kurt Russell starts doing them it will be the best and worst day of my life.
Sweet, I can get the autograph of the guy who played Crispin Glover playing George McFly.

It's time for autograph tables, bootleg DVDs and stinky black t-shirts again! This is five minutes from my house, so I'll be hanging around this con for most or all of the weekend. One particular vendor WILL be replacing the glitchy bootleg of White Line Fever he sold me.

If you can find/identify me, say hi and I'll buy a round.

Aren't you afraid that the concentrated sadness and despair that only broken dreams and failed lives create, will take form and slaughter everyone there?

One can only hope so, Stelios.

Love the new avatar, by the way. You suck, because you made coffee come out of my nose.

If that happens, I can run faster.

Chatted over a drink with Bill Zebub, director of Jesus Christ, Serial Rapist, about his new film Assmonster.

The twins from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter are still pretty put together.

The hotel lobby has a piano; some genius always finds it, sits at it, and plays the Halloween and Super Mario Brothers theme over and over, but only in 30 second snippets, EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's never the same person.

Other than the interesting evening you had, Phil... how was the experience in general? Is it "same-ey, same", like most cons? I'm heading over there on Sunday, sans the girlfriend(EW! Horror movies?), and I'm just curious if it will be worth the drive across the river.

EDIT: If you're there, and you hear a guy on piano playing the intro to Blue Oyster Cult's "Joan Crawford"... then buy me a drink. :P

Fucking play anything besides that Super Mario theme.

I'm not an autograph guy, and when they "screen" a movie it's on a dvd projector, so the main reason I go is the dealers - never know where you'll find a gem of a book, or a not-on-dvd old movie, or competitively priced Freddy Krueger toys. Think I'll ask around about Water Power today.

There's a dealer at this con who refers to it as a "bubble gum" con, and it's an apt description. Very mainstream-y, the same batch of 80s stuntmen/slashers and model/victims, most dealers selling shit you'd find at Hot Topic if they didn't snap it all up to scalp at this show. (As a point of comparison, the dealer who described it as such runs a show in Ohio that always has some offbeat guests - next month he's got Dyanne Thorne, Christina Lindberg and the director of Bloodsucking Freaks as his headliners.)

Swapped out my copy of White Line Fever, picked up a boot of Twisted Nerve, a doc about TV horror hosts, and a few old issues of Cinefantastique. Wanted but did not buy this amazing poster of Andy Warhol's Dracula:

Holy cow. Miguel Nunez.

Does Biehn do many of these?

Probably? First time I've seen him at this one, though.
I'm going to this one, Phil. I hope Dick Miller can last until August. Keep your fingers crossed everybody!
Might be in Jersey at the end of August. Noting this in my calendar.
I'm fond of photos of actors in awkward poses with fans at conventions. I don't believe I'd seen any with Biehn, but I suppose he's done his share.

Did they pull Biehn out of a dumpster for that photo?
Is that the face of Jesus on his sweat-soaked shirt?
That pic looks exactly how I imagine a Biehn appearance would feel.
He's a bit more clean-shaven than I depict him in my doodles. But aside from that he's dead on there.

Biehn...isn't Jesus?
I can't answer that question. I made an oath to never again shake someone's faith.
Good. I'll keep sleeping with the Johnny Ringo picture under my pillow.

I'll probably hit up Monstermania just because it's been a couple years since I've been there. Anyone ever been to Chiller Theatre? Much better when it comes to dealers.

Adam West, John Astin, David Naughton and Michael Madsen added. Hoo boy!
I hope Michael Madsen is more interested in being at the con than he was being in Sin City.
You've got to have him sign one of his books of poetry.
Wonder if they ever invite Gary Busey?

He'd have to be in chains, with a big red ABORT button on the table.

I'm going to ask him to write a haiku on my stomach and have it tattooed.
So who's actually going? If I remember correctly, there is a decent bar in the hotel. We need to get drunk and harass John Landis.

I'll be floating around most of the weekend. Fred Dekker is showing Night of the Creeps uncut on Fri night. (Probably just a shit dvd projection, but hey.) Also, the guy who played Cropsy in The Burning will be there.

That same weekend, Exhumed Films is showing Blue Sunshine and Just Before Dawn.

Actually, he will probably have that beautiful new print of Night of the Creeps he showed here in Austin a few weeks ago. Not a scratch one on that fucker.

Yeah, but they're showing it in a hotel that's not set up to project film. Blu-ray at best, in a hotel ballroom.
I'll be there. I'd like to see Dekker also.
Anybody have a message you'd like me to pass along to the Iron Sheik?
I do. You tell him that it's "USA...number 1.." and "Iran.... hack phooey!" Oh man, he'll be livid.
