This game made me believe that people had fridges in the year 1000.

FUCK. YES.

I still have my SNES solely to occasionally play this when the mood strikes.

Shit, I'm going to have to buy a DS now...
The thing I love about video games today is that, like with DVD's and movies, I can keep buying the exact same thing over and over again in different formats.

I don't remember the load times on the PS1 version as much as I remember those terrible and useless animated cut scenes. Curious to see what they do with this on the DS.

Aw man, the load times were brutal compared to the cartridge. Course, now it may seem silly, but a few seconds just for a menu to pop up? Or save? Drove me nuts.

Those anime scenes were pretty bad, though. I bet they're in this version...

CT was the one time I actually bought a video game soundtrack. They had it in Japan Town in San Francisco. Even more sad...it was a 3 CD set.

I guess this makes up my mind for me. I'm going to have to pick up the NDS.

Um, you do know that you can just download the ROM onto a PC and play it that way, right?

If you've got a DS it's a cool game to pick up but I can't understand why you would go out of your way to buy a whole new system for a port of a game that you've already played a bunch of times.

Between this and the found footage of Metropolis, it has turned into a very, very good day indeed.

While this news just made my year, I don't understand why fans wouldn't tolerate a 3D version? I'd be just as psyched, especially if they gave it the attention they did for Final Fantasy III and IV.
The only way to do the game right in 3-D would be cel shading, putting that Dragon Ball Z Budokai engine to much, much better use, and I'm not sure the DS has the power to do that proper for 60 hours of gameplay, and I'd rather a straight port than a half-ass innovation.

Also, I'll take the flipside of the argument: I own and don't hate the PS1 port. It's the only time past the age of 16 where Akira Toriyama's character designs didn't make me want to do bodily harm with an icepick. The extended ending, in particular, was a nice touch.

Chrono Trigger is one of my favoritest games ever. This is nothing but glorious news to me.
It's good news I guess... I've got no real plans to pick up a DS or a PSP regardless.

Personally, I would prefer a true remake for the next gen consoles. I don't think it would be that big of a stretch to just recreate this game with better graphics.

I was such a huge fan of these games when I was younger, but I've never been a big fan of handheld gaming in general so I'll pass.

That said, this and FF6 are easily two of the greatest games ever. 1994-1995 was a great time for role players.

I love the original, but the quality of the extra dungeon will determine whether this is a purchase or not. I love the original and I've played through it a half dozen times, but I'm sick of Square's handheld ports. Palette swapped enemies and bosses aren't going to cut it anymore (see GBA Final Fantasy IV-VI). And it's not like purchasing this game is really going to drum up interest for a new sequel, at least not from the original team. I'm not saying that I'm bummed out about this announcement, but I'm not particularly excited either.

Hey, think of it this way- if the game sells well and they see that there's interest in the series, we might get a next-gen sequel.

I'd be psyched as well, it just feels like this game (more than the FF titles) would lose something in the translation. Square fans go bananas for Chrono Trigger's art.

To be fair, I think that Toriyama's art style has already worked out pretty well in 3D before (Dragon Quest VIII). No reason why a next-gen remake would be a huge visual departure.

Next gen, sure... but the DS can barely handle polygons.

(Edit: Although Dementium: The Ward did a pretty good job. Too bad the game wasn't all that.)

I don't know. The upcoming Dragon Quest IX on the DS looks pretty impressive.

I guess I'm finally going to have to play through this game, since I can't usually stand JRPGs and my friend has been telling me how great this one is for 15 years.

Great, but before starting you better finish your game of King Neptune with Gordon Jump and Dudley.

Picked this up on Tuesday and I fell in love all over again.

I've had the game for less than a week and I already have the Epoch. This game truly is a classic and is something I've wanted to revisit for over a decade (my SNES copy of the game for some reason attacks with Crono automatically for some reason). The emulation is perfect and while the touch screen menu system isn't always necessary, it is nice that it is there. I haven't bothered with the monster growing shit and probably never will. And yes, the cheesy cutscenes from the PSX release are intact (and can be turned off). Basically, all the new stuff you can easily ignore.

If you own a DS, you MUST purchase this game, RPG fan or not. I might even argue that it's worth purchasing a DS just to own this game (portable Chrono Trigger is very addictive). The game has even inspired me to line up a variety of RPGs for me to trudge through over the winter (I'm thinking Chrono Cross, FF VI, Secret of Mana, and maybe FF VII just for the lulz).

Also, I'm scratching my head at some of the comments to make this game 3D. To say that is a bit of a slap in the face to the game and what it tries to be. The size of the sprites are huge compared to other Square games and if you find a website that hosts sprite dumps of this game, you'll see there's a lot for each character. Sprite-based games tend to hold up a bit better aesthetically, and a 3D, possibly real-looking version of this world and these characters would be completely missing the point of Chrono Trigger's lighthearted aesthetics (amidst a very bleak story).

Please tell me there are others aside from Matt and I that have picked this game up. A little bit of Chrono Trigger discussion is good for everyone.

I'm so happy I'll have a chance to finally play this game for less than 100 dollars. Too damn bad I asked for this for christmas, then waiting is the hardest part.
Helped a friend get through Magus' Castle last week. Only did about a half hour of gameplay, and it fucking smokes the vast majority of RPGs I've played this generation.
I'll get it at some point, but I'm totally still neck-deep in The World Ends With You at this point, and that barely leaves my DS. Also, I still need to finish off the last bits of Contact and FFIII. Backlog!

I picked this up the day it came out, based on m friends recommendation, but haven't gotten around to playing the hell out of it yet mostly because I'm still working through Fallout 3 and Saint's Row 2. Damn, I need more time. Growing up sucks.
