Anyone else seen this? I had no clue where to put it. Joss Whedon's latest project. 4th Generation Media coming to you.
It has 3 key ingredients: Joss Whedon, Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. I don't care what it is, I'll watch.

Yeah, which is why I am surprised we haven't seen more talk of it around here. I sent it in when it first came out. Also, it represents Whedon and these actors taking something straight to the internet. This is happening more and more (Funny or Die being one of the biggest proponents of this).

But should be fun. Fillion certainly looks a little nuts in this.
I wonder if Dr Horrible has a House of Terrible?
This looks cool.
I am considerably interested all of a sudden.
Really susprised I haven't seen this mentioned before.

The first part is out but it crashed the site. You can get it through iTunes though if you want.

I was pleasantly surprised, and chuckling throughout. I think Whedon is still a little too in love with his talents as a songwriter, but my first impression was that he's gotten better at the pastiche thing since "Once More With Feeling." It helps that he has professionally trained singers this time around, too. (On that note, the real surprise was Fillion, who was great at the singing and is a reminder that he "gets" the inherent silliness in a lot of Whedon's stuff.)

Looking forward to part II and III, but I won't buy it on DVD.
It's fun fun fun. How great it is that his sidekick is called Moist?

And it's really carried well by NPH and Fillion.
"Texting. It's very important, or I would stop."

NPH is pretty great.
I stumbled upon this on Itunes yesterday and snatched it up. I thought it was a wonderful little piece of absurdity. Especially the liquid gold bar in a bag and NPH's line about it smelling human.
I think he said it smelled like cumin.

He actually said it smelled like cumin.

EDIT: Curse you Rocco!

Episode 2 is live, and it's still great.

"Captain Hammer threw a car at my head...."

EDI: "The hammer is my penis" line killed me. God I missed Whedon....
It's strange how much Neil Patrick Harris looks/acts like Fillion in this - just certain expressions. A lot of fun (the first ep - I haven't watched the second).
It gets better actually.
Yeah, I'm not the biggest Whedon fan in the world, but that first episode was great. Personally, I don't think it would have succeeded quite so spectacularly had NPH and Fillion not been involved, but it probably would have still been fun. Looking forward to checking out the next episode after work tonight.

"Didn't you go on a date last night? Conflict Diamond told me you were doubling with Bait and Switch."

"Yeah...it was alright. I kind of thought I was supposed to end up with Bait, but..."

Part II

"Trust your instincts."
"The Thoroughbred of Sin?"
Crap. I can't seem to watch either episode on the site. This is what I keep seeing when I try to watch one of the episodes:

Attachment 1700

Anyone know how to fix this?

I would be entirely happy if Whedon did nothing but musicals from here on out.
This is pretty entertaining stuff.
This is a lot of fun, I echo the statement "I miss Whedon". Everybody is good in this. The last song in part 2 I've played several times now.

"A shiny new Australia"
"The hammer is my penis." These have been pretty great.
"It's a good day to be homeless!"
Fillion was very good here. More than any drama in the last act his silliness was very affecting. Not sure if this world was well-thought out enough to revisit in longer form, but I doubt that's the intention. Bad Horse being a horse in the final scene brought it closer to one-off parody. Who were the other villains in the last scene? Anyone?

According to the credits you had the Pink Pummeler with Moist and the League of Evil was Professor Normal, Fake Thomas Jefferson, Tie Die(ted danson's daughter), Dead Bowie, Fury Leika, Snake Bite, and Bad horse of course.

And I don't think the intent was to visit this again but it was still great. Loved the groupies.

Better watch fast because after Sunday it's off the horrible site per Joss on BWE.
The world of Dr. Horrible would have felt much more creative pre-Venture Brothers. I mean, what is Bad Horse next to Phantom Limb and Truckules?

That said, I really enjoyed the whole thing, and hope everybody involved sees a nice return on their investment.

I think some of you are analyzing this the wrong way. I don't think Whedon was world building so much as just having a little fun and testing out a new business model.

I think this is Whedon looking for a new delivery system and seeing what works and what doesn't. And at the same time getting something out of his head.

I thought it was fun. Bit of a downer ending, but a lot of fun.
I loved it, and I might get this on DVD if it's not overpriced. Loved that Bad Horse is actually a fucking horse.
Really enjoyed these as well ("The hammer is my penis" slayed* me. Everything from NPH doing nothing on screen for what felt like 5 seconds to Fillion going straight from knob-joke to cuddly boyfriend).

Will probably splash out on the eventual DVD, but how much extra material can there be with three 15 minute web episodes? A behind the scenes doc about how they made Doogie Howser-zilla?

*TOTALLY not an intentional pun. Honest. I swear.
Just watched the third part. Tonally, the ending is different for Wheedon, which makes me wonder if he intends to continue this story, provided that his experiment with the delivery method works. It does work as a one-shot, though.
I don't get any sense of it being a pilot project. As for tone, I should have known Whedon would go for the throat in Act 3 because he always does.
Well, yes, he does go for the throat, but he usually offers up a bit more redemption at the end. I was surprised that he left Billy where he did, which is what makes me wonder if he intends to continue this at some point.
"They say it's better the second time. They say you get to do the weird stuff."

I'm sure the ending's going to piss off some people, but knowing Whedon he'll love that. This was fun. Hope we see some more names goofing around like this.
Liked the ending as well. My attention's been drawn to how the final shot's an exellent inversion of the opening shots- that Billy has essentially reversed his out and blogger personas.
I wouldn't mind seeing more of this, however, simply because NPH and Fillon seemed to be enjoying their roles so much.
This was excellent. Remember it's only up till midnight tonight. After that you'll have to buy it from iTunes. Which doesn't seem to be an option for us International Customers. Or am I mistaken on that? It didn't allow me to buy it earlier anyway.
From the currently-happening chat over at the Washington Post's website:

Quote:
Arlington, VA: Does The Tick live near Dr. Horrible? Moist totally gives it away.

Joss Whedon: The Tick lives IN Dr Horrible. Ben Edlund was going to do the piece with us but had to drop out. "Bad Horse" was a character he'd pitched incessantly on Angel ("How could he make a radioactive device using only HOOVES?!?!?!?") so I wanted that in, and the first thing Ben pitched for this was Moist. But he had to bail right at the beginning.
I'm not a Whedon nut and I loved this. The ending was ballsy, sad, and odd. More please.
I finally just saw this. I was really surprised by how good this is, but with the talent involved -- NPH, Fillion, and I guess Whedon -- I shouldn't have been. Like Sean said, more please.

ETA: When I heard about it at first I had no real interest, and to anyone else who was on the fence about this I can't recommend it enough.
Looking back - I haven't seen this since its 'original run' - I kinda don't want more. The ending was so great, but what made it great was the finality, the unqualified tragedy. I'm sure Joss could come up with another 'season,' but I'd just as soon see him create another universe and leave this one in its perfection.

On a more general note, yeah, let's have more of Whedon making quality things, i.e. anything he does other than Dollhouse, apparently.
Yeah, agreed. Loved it the first time (or two) that I watched it - total brilliance. I have faith that Joss will come up with something equally amazing soon enough....I mean, aside from Dollhouse.
I though this was great as well. Pretty much sums up everything great and unique about Whedon in a tidy little package.
The DVD's pretty nifty. The Evil League of Evil applications are hit and miss (must have been a contest), but interesting.

Some whisperings of a sequel last year, but no details.

EDIT: See also DR. STEEL.

Commentary: The Musical is pretty damned charming. Everyone involved seems to go into full blown Fillion cheese mode and the results are pretty fun.

For the life of me, I can't seem to get "A Man's Gotta Do" out of my head. It's soldered in.

I gotta give that a listen next.
I love "Steve's Song".
Don't you mean... "Thhteve's Thhong?"

I'm quite partial to the "No Asians in the Movies" song. It's TOTALLY random, I know!

This is the soundtrack I've been singing along to in the car for several months now. Love trying to imitate Fillion's cheesiness.
