If I were a meaner, less charitable person, I'd point out that--having come from an area filled with people like this--some people view kids as public aid dispensers rather than human beings. I can't tell you how many families on public assistance I've encountered that have upwards of five or six children, most of which have at least a couple kids with developmental disorders that are a result of neglect, genetics, environment, or some mixture of the three.
