The Unofficial "Chewers Who Play Instruments" Thread

I thought this would be a good thread for Chewer musicians to post pictures and share some stories of what ever instrument they might play. To start things off; bought and fixed up this little number a few weeks ago. Not much, but a good start for an electric(translation, it's what I can afford right now).

Photographs of my Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments are publicly available. Nothing would be added by posting pictures of them here, as I haven't customized them or anything.

I'm pretty good at the expert modes! I hear Flaparoo's the best.

Walnut tele I built several years ago. Mighty Mites neck, fender vintage tuners, SD Jerry Donahue pickups, fender four-way switch (series/parallel). It's a truly clean machine.

Forgive the crap photo. Left to right is the Dark Rose tele (walnut project tele), the Red Queen (Fender Custom Telecaster FMT) and the Terrycaster (my main workhorse...the guitar used to beat a guy offstage at a gig in Granite City, IL).

Video cap of a performance with an Epiphone Wildkat. I've got another one of these on the way. Three more payments and it's mine.

Kit strat my boy and I put together a couple of years ago. He's working on another one...hope to have it done by the end of the summer.

You're in a shitty cover band after only a year and a half?

Rock on, m'man.

Make sure to never stray from your roots and if you do. Try and get back to them at some point.

Tuba, seriously.

Could not post pics, internet fucked.

Here's my Iceman. It's a shitty picture, but it's the only one I got of it.

That picture+Tom Jane avatar= Awesomeness

Yeah...Tom Jane would play an Iceman. Through a 50-watt Marshall plexi half-stack. I can totally buy that one.

Or maybe something from BC Rich.

I played this for eight years. Wasn't too bad.

The Tuba. Go ahead, laugh.

Gear. heads.

I don't have a picture of my violin, but, on a related note, here are DaveB's hands after practicing for about five hours last weekend -

Rock 'n roll!

That's the plan. And EdHocken, don't worry, I manage to slip in a few Ramones songs here and there.

Brass rules. Just think of yourself as the bass player of the section. Sure, the trumpet guys may get the leadguitar chicks, but the tuba guys can hang out at the bar and explain how what they do makes it possible for the other guys to be so flashy and cool and....well...shit

hands you a box of tissues

Zooey, tell Dave that he has my respect for going at it that long after letting the callouses go. I know for a fact that if I were to pick up the guitar and just woodshed for that long my fingers would be a mass of bloody stumps threatening to quit the band entirely. Which is why I generally fall back on my training and start with less time and work my way up. Three hours is my max these days, but I figure I can work it up to more by the end of the summer. Assuming my kids will refrain from pestering me for that long at a time.

DaveB a possible solution to your problem

Also ,besides Bub, anybody else have a nickname for their beloved possesion?

I have almost come to a decision on mine, it's a toss between Jenelle or Scrambles the Death-Bringer.

Iceman is actually what the guitar is called, it's an Ibanez Iceman 350.

I like how Slither is propped up on your DVD cabinet like it's a family photo or something.

It's actually a signed copy from James Gunn, Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker.

Oh, well then. That's significantly cooler.

Here's me performing at my last show in Chicago, at the Kitsch Cave. I think I was singing a song about King Hippo. Or Total Recall. One of those. My guitar is a Greg Bennet or something like that. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul:

I've been known to fiddle with my organ quite regularly.

Played trumpet/cornet in marching & concert band in HS*.

Learning the guitar (on a crappy student POS my Mom ordered from some mail-order catalog along with a Van Halen's greatest hits book) saved my life during my 1st year at college. It was one of the only things that took my stress away through a tough time. Eventually got a cheap Fender electric & amp combo, then graduated to a real nice black Yamaha acoustic.

This thread reminded me that I've barely played in the past few years since having a kid.

* ... along with singing in the concert, camerata, and county choirs as well (Bass II, pansies!). Also spent a ton of time hamming it up on stage in drama club and won and award or 2.

It's all good in the hood.

I'm actually looking into getting myself a Brać tamburitza. It's a folk instrument, but it sounds very cool.
