E3 2008 Discussion

So excited. I'm heading out to LA next Monday for my first time at E3, teaming up with Russ so I can leech all the knowledge out of his head. (He's a vet at this, and knows all the tricks.) Going to be getting plenty of coverage up on Chud.

Looking forward to checking out Rock Band 2 (next Tuesday!) and sitting down for a half hour with the guys behind Fallout 3. Nevermind Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2 and all the announcements! Also, we're going to see if it will be possible to liveblog the keynotes.

What are you guys most looking forward to hearing about?
I don't know what Alex is talking about; I'm going to LA to hit the beach.
Alex Riviello, I hope you enjoy E3, it sounds like a great show. I would like to know if King Of Fighters XII, and Tatsunoko vs Capcom will be available on the XBox 360 in the USA anytime soon. Also I am looking forward to coverage on...Battle Fantasia, any new Gundam games and of course 2009 releases like Street Fighter IV, and EA's G.I. Joe.
Duke, I can personally guarantee that I'll do my best to squash any coverage you might find interesting.

Oh, but what, wai- I thought that? Oh.

Well, more booze for me, then.
Russ Fischer, Why would you do that? Why are you being so hostile to me? Were you an ant in a past live stepped on by an ancestor of mine? Just kidding about the last question...but is there some way I have offended you? Enjoy E3 or the beach.

I wanna see more PS3 titles announced this year! My 360 has had it too good for too long! But seriously, I want to hear more about Mirror's Edge for the PS3. I'm getting a little tired of first-person shooters, but this game looks interesting.

Oh, and a confirmed setlist for Rock Band 2 and anything on God of War 3.

You bastion of journalistic integrity you, I love ya to death!

Personally I'm curious about Ghostbusters, Project Origin, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Gears of War 2, Far Cry 2 and Resident Evil 5. But I'll take what you give me.
Nintendo's big 'Core Gamer' announcement, any new info (or hands on impressions) of The Conduit.

Hands on Mirror's Edge, on any platform, as I'm desperate to know how the control scheme is being done on it.

2K'll probably be rolling out some info about X-Com, and despite my loss of faith in the former Irrational, I'm curious about what they're doing with it.

Eidos Montreal. Deus Ex 3 info and anything about the as-of-yet-not-officially-announced-probably-Thief-4 project.

I recommend chatting with Arkane Studios about The Crossing if you get a chance (and if they're even there). I'll probably be getting info elsewhere, but these guys could use whatever notice they can get, especially with something as crazy and potentially revolutionary as The Crossing.

Good luck in LA guys.

I still remember attending the E3 with the PS2 on display. That was back in the day where you could finagle a pass to the E3 pretty easily. It was one of the most memorable things I did in college.

As for the show, Im anxious to see how the Rock band/Guitar Hero war amps up. I want some big name bands being announced.

I want to hear about Resident Evil 5.

More than anything though, I want to be surprised. That's one thing I sorta miss from the old days (like that E3 I was referring to). Before online journalism became the norm, EVERY May was a hallowed month for gamers because you were just itching to hear about what giant massive surprises the big 3 had in store for you.

#1 on my list of priorities. Activision isn't attending, so we're not going to get their side of things, unfortunately.

Completely agree about that, actually... and one of the reasons I haven't been reporting on rumors. Better to be surprised with concrete details.

Oh, and how could I forget about Mirror's Edge? So hyped for that one and hoping it's playable.

And Brutal Legend as well. Must play.
Capcom's supposedly got two more secret projects they'll announce, including one for the Wii that's described as "a cool take on a next-gen favorite" so any info on that would be cool.

Doesn't appear Brutal Legend is going to be there, unfortunately for everyone.
Please, if there is any god, let them show Dead Rising 2. Please?
If anyone from Konami's in the house, drag whoever's highest up in the company into a dark room and grill the shit out of them about Project S.

Later in the year, unless plans have changed.
Fallout 3 and Prototype and Mercenaries 3. Make sure you pester them about removing groin shots in Fallout 3.
Also, I'm dying for any info on inFamous, that open world super hero game the Sly Cooper team (Sucker Punch, I believe) has been working on.
Singer asked me to remind you not to forget about covering the JRPG's.
I forgot about Deus Ex 3. Anything you can get on that would be wonderful.
Personally, I need closure over LA Noire and Indiana Jones.
I'd love to hear anything about KOTOR 3 (yes I know there are plenty of other more interesting properties, but this is a personal favorite).

Thanks!
Seconded about Ghostbusters as well as the rumored X-Com revamp. Also don't forget to stop by the 5th Anniversary Spore display.

Oh please let it be the Halo 3 anime role playing adventure 'Master Chief and His Band of Misfits'!
Anything on God of War III would be very nice news. Along with others already mentioned.
I feel stupid even mentioning this but is Duke Nukem supposed to have any sort of presence? Based on that web story you linked a while back it would seem playable enough to throw something together for E3 and start clawing your way out of laughing stock position.
Fallout 3: 2008 Game of the Year. Just watch.

But besides that, RE5, Rock Band 2.

Well, anything with zombies really.

Won't Activision be holding their own press thing at HQ since they won't be attending the convention?

I don't care what anyone says, the old E3 was a rite of passage for anyone who made/wrote about/enjoyed games. It was nothing but glitz and excess. And it was beautiful. Sometimes smelly, but beautiful.
I needs to know if EA is making an NHL '10 or NASCAR '10 for the Wii! I NEEDS TO KNOW!

I should think that all of the ex-ESA publishers will have something going on in LA next week. Practically all of the gaming press in the world is going to be in the same city at the same time, they'd be stupid not to have a couple guys hanging around the convention centre handing out invites to parties or something.
Activision has a press conference.
Off topic sidenote: Activision's HQ corporate park location has the most expensive parking I've ever seen, 20 dollars max if it isn't validated.

I'm as eager for the next Mercs game as anyone else, but can't we wait for the second one before asking about making it a trilogy?

Also Mirror's Edge.
I'm also looking forward to the next Silent Hill game, can't remember what it's called, and also looking forward to seeing Resident Evil 5 in a playable form.

This might be a little wishful thinking but I liked to hear some kind of an announcement of an attachable hard drive for the Wii. So many VC games I want to get along with what's on Wiiware and I'm running out of space on the system and my 1gb memory card.
If you get anything on Star Wars Battlefront III, I'll be forever in love with your toight ball bag.
Battlefront was a bit shitty, but there were some great ideas in there - I remember the console versions being awful too. How's the new one shaping up?
I won't be doing a lot of updates to this thread during the day, since I'll be busy, but anyone who wants quick update blasts (liveblogging the press briefings aside) can follow me on Twitter, where I'll be sending regular notes.
Best of luck guys. Have fun, enjoy it for all of us.

And get me those Pc titles!

Russ, just started following you. Despite my distaste for Twitter (even in concept) I'm gonna give it a try.
What's your twitter, Russ?
russ_fischer
yeah, I craftily searched for 'russ fischer' and saw that the result was talking about going to E3 and doing video game reviews for the Onion. Sometimes I amaze even myself.
I'm pretty transperant on the web. I don't have a lot of weird user names and shit -- pretty much everything is done under my real name, so I'm never hard to find.
I plugged in a bunch of things -- russfischer, rfisch, etc. -- but nothing with an underscore. And it didn't even occur to me to just do a search. Duh.

Anyways, thanks. Will follow.
Any info about Left 4 Dead would be appreciated. They have been showing off a hands on demo so perhaps they will have it for play at E3.

Nintendo just announced a wiimote peripheral that adds "more" motional control.

Cool.

Now make me a Power Glove 2.0 and we are good to go.

They better show some great demos or games for this starting tomorrow. I wonder if it'll launch with something like Wii Sports 2. Or maybe Punch-Out!
It sounds like functionality that should have been in the controller from the beginning.
A new Punch Out would pretty much force me to go get a Wii, like, tomorrow.
