The Carry on Films

With the rumour of a new film in the works I thought I would start a thread dedicated to one of the great staples of a bank holiday weekend.

I have to admit these are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. From the glory days of British cinema and chocked full of some very fine comedy actors, Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Bernard Cribbins to name a few.

Personally I love the period flicks, Carry on Dick, Carry on Cleo and Carry on Follow that Camel are films I love to this day. I still laugh every time I hear the line:-
“Infamy, Infamy – they all have it infamy”

Even though they were chocked full of innuendo there was something so innocent about the series as a whole. They never strayed to much into parody even when attempting to spoof a genre (Carry on Spying for example), and even though the plots were sometimes paper thin you could always be guaranteed of a good laugh or two. I think part of that was down to the fact that the actors had worked on so many films together they knew each other so well much like Rogen, Appatow and company today.

So anyone else share the love? Anyone hate them? Share your thoughts here.

hopefully we wont get that again.

It's apparantly called Carry on London and is to do with a taxi firm and the 2012 olympics.

I love these films. I haven't seen the early b&w ones but all of the others are great. I think you either love these films or hate them - no middle ground.

I don't know how they were percived in their day but their complete disregards to poliitical correctness is such a breath of fresh air in today's modern Britain. It's because of this that the ones set in contemporary 60s/70s like 'Convienience', 'Abroad' and 'Girls' are my favoutites. Choc full of blokes who are dissatified with their missus back home and can't help but drool and phwoar over the office girls in the mini skirts.

As much as I love and fancy my missus, I'm find myself empathising with Sid James' characters to the point where they're no longer bawdy comdies but bordering on documentaries. ;-)

I think the producers should do what the government need to do also - realise that the majority of the UK live outside London and honestly don't give a fuck about it or a film set in London.

If anything, a new Carry On film set in the 60s or 70s with the same level of sauciness and lack of PC would go down a storm.

Sid James has the dirtiest laugh known to man.

I really think the humor of these films is of a totally different era, it's on the same plane as Benny Hill, trying to recapture that just isn't going to work.

They made a mini-series chronicling the relationship between Sid, Barbara and Kenneth Williams but I cannot, for the life of me, remember what it was called.

God, I haven't seen a "Cary On" film in 25 years ... I remember liking Carry On Screaming, which had a decent theme song if I remember correctly.

Repeat this aloud..."K'yah, k'yah, k'yah!"...repeat it silently to yourself, watch Sid some more in the films, refine it, watch Sid some more...and report to the Studio.
...and to get you started...

...or (alternatively) to Innsmouth.

These are totally the sort of movies you're forced to watch while you're sick from school and staying at your grandfather's house, and despite the fact they only run for 85 minutes, seem to to drag on foreeeeveeeeerr. They exist on that same plane as old James Bond movies, Elvis movies, etc.

So, I can't tell whether I like them or hate them. The 1969 ITALIAN JOB is probably my favourite CARRY ON movie, come to think of it.

How many of these movies contain a grumpy fat "matron" who is also surprisingly sexually charged?
