And don't tell me Koji Igarashi, cause I know he's behind it. But it just doesn't make sense.... how many characters could this game possibly have, without dipping into incredibly minor ones?

What the fuck?

Simon looks like a chick. This is the same retarded inverse thought that gave us the Sub Zero scroller.

I have to disagree with this article. The watch was the best item in the games.

All of Castlevania's attempts at 3D games have been absolute disasters and if you really want a 2D one, there's no shortage of them on the DS and GBA, so at least they're trying something different. And the nancyboy designs are also nothing new. The Belmonts haven't a had masculine design since the SNES game.

As for characters, there's quite a few they could do, actually. In addition to a couple different Belmont clan members there's also Grant De Nasty and Sypha from Castlevania 3, you've got Alucard, Eric LeCarde (from the Genesis game), Hector (from Curse of Darkness, one of the 3D games), Soma Cruz and few others. It wouldn't be a huge roster, but the series isn't devoid of leading characters.

Just for the sections with Medusa heads!

No, but it's devoid of characters people care about. Besides the Belmonts, Alucard, and Grant, there really hasn't been many memorable leads. They're all interchangeable and personality-free. I just don't see anyone getting excited over playing as Soma Cruz in a fighting game.

To be fair, at least it's better than (series illustrator) Ayami Kojima's usual crap-

"1st Battalion Transvestite Brigade!"

Jesus! The hits just keep on coming don't they?

I don't get it, really. I guess when I picture a family of vampire hunters, I imagine more masculine men that don't look like they'll be bowled over by a stiff breeze and whose fashion sense skew more toward down and dirty dead animal than Dolce and Gobanna.

Hey, assholes, a few scars will do you some good!

The reason for that is because the target for these games are Japanese boys. When was the last time you saw someone of Japanese descent grow up to be muscular and manly like Stallone? They don't, so naturally the heroes of these games are going to be slender and pale and carry the same insane fashion sense that comes out of Tokyo.

Man, we fucked them up good when we dropped the bombs on em, didn't we?

A new Castelvania game? And it's a fighting game! Awesome, I needed a new decorative coaster for my coffee table. Yes!!!

Exactly, next thing you know there will be 100 mega man and Sonic spin-offs that suck just as badly...

I'll see your axe and raise you a boomerang!

this looks as gay-tastic as the star wars fighting game.

Why can't they just accept that Castlevania only works as a a side scroller and keep making those great DS games? Seriously, does anybody want this?

I'm a certified Castlevania whore (proof: I still own and enjoy Castlevania 64 and Lament of Innocence), and "What the fuck?" doesn't even begin to cover how much I hold this shit in contempt.

Also, the Throwing Cross is the best weapon in the series, and don't you ever forget it.

Crow is correct. On all counts.

Konami treats Castlevania like Cablevision treats the Knicks.

also Holy water was the shit until it got neutered. Finally, I can deal with Alucard as being a "beloved" character, but why the fuck do people get hard for Grant? Grant can suck my balls.

I'll be the lone voice of dissent here. Looks like Konami's trying to make their version of Soul Caliber, but with more items and random elements. Don't know if it will play that way or have as deep a combat system, but that's what it looks like. Also, if they're ever going to make a real Castlevania 3D game that controls well, then starting with a fighting game isn't such a bad idea. Once you disengage the franchise from the genre, I don't think its anything to get worked up about. And to be honest, the idea of 3D Castlevania game with the remote has me curious.

Then again, I'm not a huge Castlevania fan anymore. Loved SOTN obviously and liked DOS. Can't get into POR. Wouldn't mind playing Super Castlevania IV or Rondo of Whatever though.

Because Grant was the best secondary character in Castlevania 3. Dude's wall-climbing ability was bitchin.
It's our own damn fault. When our stars were Stallone and Schwarzenegger, Konami made this:

And I'm with Cassady, holy water's all you need. Aiming's for suckers.

Correct on both counts. Meanwhile, Sypha doesn't get nearly enough love, despite being the best alternate character in the damn game. Freezing then shattering things with a shirt stick = Instant win.

I still have no idea why Konami doesnt release Castlevania games onPSN/Live Arcade...seriously, just give us a perfect port of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood" and we'll forgive this atrocity (This is from a guy that is seriously pondering getting a PSP just for that Dracula X Chronicles game)...do the same as Capcom, and give us something like Castlevania Trilogy (the first NES games), upgraded in graphics and sound and all will be well.
And while I am a massive Castlevania whore as well, cash issues have prevented me from getting a DS and so on.

PS: I also loathe Death Note, so im even more in the contempt cam over this game.

Sam and Dean Winchester need to take over these games.

Sorry, folks - that ain't the Simon Belmont that I grew up on.

99 hits my ass. That guy couldn't beat up a two year old girl.
