Your interest probably was not peaked

Thread Starter
It was probably piqued.

If your interested peaked, it means you reached the upper limits of your interest and it was all downhill from there.
Was expecting this to also be about the new X-Files movie.
Their was definately some peaking going on.
I miss Biques.

Yeah, finally a grammar thread for the impaired and non-native speakers.
Now if someone can explain to me where "I would buy that for a dollar" is coming from my day of work would be complete.

What did the dubbed version say instead of that phrase?

I reckon something similar. But it is definitely not as catchy.
That is why I made it a habit to try and watch all movies in English (Neither my French or Spanish are good enough unfortunately). Thank you DVD.

I love watching action movies on Telemundo because of how awful some of the dialogue is translated. DIE HARD in spanish is priceless.
My interest peeked. Just a quick glance.
My interest needs a nap.

My interest is 5.5% on a 15 year mortgage.

The titles are the best.

I'll always remember The Craft, which was basically translated to "The Four Teenage Witches".

Glad I took a peak at this.

I know I said that today (in the Favreau discussion) and I haven't seen Robocop. I picked it up from my sound design professor.

Their are alot of bad spellers around hear.

You never studied..
People who say "pronounciation" or variations of "I could of" deserve death.

THANK. YOU.

Seriously. As a journalism major/english minor, I salute you. I'd make the sign of the cross at you, but I know how you are about all that God stuff.

Also 'guesstimate' bothers the living hell out of me. I know it's a word (at least according to the internet), but that doesn't stop me from wanting to kill people who use it.
"Irregardless" = instant blood rage for me.

Heh.... sorry, Jake. I used it just yesterday when I was mouthing off to NoDiggity in the "Unhealthy Obsession" thread.

Since we're airing grievances in this thread now, I just want to say that I wish I could Hulk out on anyone who says "nukular." And irregardless (you and me against the world, Dickson).

I'm also on board the "I hate people who don't know the difference between your and you're" train, and we're taking a short stop in "its/it's" burg.

I have a co-worker who says "supposably" instead of "supposedly." Though my wife can't stand my occasional slip saying "expresso" instead of "espresso." In my defense, I grew up near a restaurant called "Cafe Expresso."
I just corrected someone on the difference between "adverse" and "averse", thusly:

"Ever since he had an adverse reaction to the smell of Sally's vagina, Bill has been averse to going down on her."

It's amazing to notice how many French words are present in the English language.

Must be related to the people I know who say "volumptuous" instead of "voluptuous"

Norman Conquest FTW!

I love it when people want to "ax" me a question. Yeah, I've got an "ax" for ya...

Y'know where I see TONS of spelling errors? YouTube in the file names and descriptions. Jeez, you want to get your point across and tell everyone why a particular episode of Buffy has meaning for you? How about taking a moment and typing a bit slower, and maybe run a SpellCheck? So we won't see your awesome Harry Potter/Twilight/300/Kingdom Hearts fanfic mash-up for at least another minute. It's OK.

I'm still amazed at the gaffes I see in official communications at work. Plurals using apostrophes, "should of" and "could of", "it's" used as a possessive, you name it. And this is stuff going out to the public. I swear, pay me what I'm making now and I'd proofread this stuff and keep them from making themselves look like idiots.

I'll knife you an answer.

I personally try to avoid and correct myself on the following phrases.

...going down to... (unless used in association with cunnilingus)
...fixin' (fixing) to...
...do what?... (used when someone from the south "politely" asks you to repeat what you said)
...ya'll (yall)...

At my workplace, the number of errors is directly proportional to the number of these:

as well as smiley faces lifting weights, hugging teddy bears, sporting vamp fangs, etc.

Second cousins to the tongue-tied assholes who say "exspecially" instead of "especially."

To be pacific, for all intensive purposes, if I had of not looked, my interest would of peaked.

:: insert Scanners guy here ::

That's the English major inside of me dying.

If I may mention the one I hate the most, you could NOT care less! If you "could care less" then that means you at least have some interest! You straw-man fucks!

I'll be honest, I said "intensive purposes" for a LONG time before someone set me straight. And for billylove, I don't put southern colloquialisms in the same category as simple bad grammar like such as there/their/they're and such as. I frequently say "fixin to" "used to" "yall" "ought to" and many of variations of southern phrases that probably make english majors cringe. I try not to include it in any writing, even just casual email conversation, because it is a lot harder to know how far your writing might reach whereas the distance your words travel is usually pretty minimal.

Can't stand "uncomfortableness" for discomfort, or (dis)orientated for (dis)oriented.

"Conversate" needs to be taken behind the barn, beaten with tire irons and then shot in the mouth.
