Yello

Best known for their contribution to the Ferris Bueller soundtrack (aptly titled "Oh Yeah"), Yello is probably the greatest music group of all time. I just started to dive into their discography tonight after hearing the full version of "Oh Yeah" for the first time, and it's INCREDIBLE. ALL OF IT.

You must listen to Bostich. That's an order.

I love that video so much but now I fear I've lost my ability to distinguish between greatness and extreme shittiness. It's a fucking tossup.

The stereo panning on the album is enough to bump it into greatness.

A friend of mine bought me Solid Pleasure, reckoning that since I enjoyed Can I would like it. Knowing only "Oh Yeah" and "The Race", I was unconvinced. It turned out I was as wrong as a man can be!

"Bostich" is really great and is the source of that "Everybody be somebody" sample from out of everything!

Nothing much more to add other than Pat R is correct in that you need to listen to them. Yello: They're miles better than you might expect!

I'm sure if I was blacked out drunk, I would enjoy this.

The slow look at the camera at the 1 minute mark has me terrified.

Yeah, I'm not sure if this a Tay Zonday type situation or not. I couldn't look away.

The weird religious ramblings of Domingo really blew my 15 year old mind.

If you don't own a copy of 1980-1985: The New Mix in One Go you should. It's really great. I bought a copy in West Edmonton mall on a high school basketball trip in 1986 and wore it out on a cheap tape walkman. Those were the days.

I know it's coming across as ironic appreciation, but it really isn't. Yes, they have a TON of batshit insane music videos and their lead looks like an utterly creepy cross between Joe Flaherty and Robert Goulet, but as a fan of electronic pop, the inventive songwriting, use of samples, and diverse array of sounds appeals to me greatly. The fact that the music video for Bostich is EXACTLY what I used to think an acid trip would be like before I had one is just a bonus.

Yello's kind of like They Might Be Giants: incredibly goofy and weird, but behind that is an amazing catalouge of catchy music and a willingness to experiment with new sounds, styles, and production methods.

Yello is the greatest group in the UNIVERSE.

Throw some Alec Guinness in that pot.

Nice to know it's not just me. I discovered them several years ago, and I have yet to meet anyone who's even heard of them, much less appreciates them. I love those guys. They did a piece with Shirley Bassey doing guest vocals that I just love. And yes, Bostich is great.
