Zone Alarm dramas

Has anyone else had MAJOR probs with Zone Alarm in the last few days?

My home rig wont open any web pages since I did their latest update. I would do a web search for answers but my work PC is firewalled from pretty much the entire Universe other than CHUD for some reason.

Any help would be much appreciated, Chewers. Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I think I read an article about ZA and XP updates being incompatible. Uninstall the latest XP updates and you should be OK.

I had this too. After I installed the latest update I couldn't connect to anything. I immediately blamed Microsoft as always, restored my OS to before the update and everything was fixed.

I had this problem after installing the latest XP security update. Fucked my shit up good. Just uninstall the latest security update and you will be right as rain.

Yep, same issue here. Zone Alarm went to shit yesterday day on me. Wouldn't let me open any Firefox windows (even tried the dreaded IE and it failed too). Then ZA locked me out of my LAN. Fuckers! What's the easiest way to uninstall the last XP security update?

Go to Control Panel and access Add/Remove Programs. On the top right of the window is a box that says Show Updates. Check that box and then scroll down and locate the XP Security Update. Click on it and hit Remove. It will restart you computer and then you should be back on track right afterwards.

I went in and set my Automatic Updates to just tell me when there is an update instead of installing it in the dead of the night. Way to stay on the ball, XP.

Thanks Mattimus.

I am more than happy to pass on the information. I can't tell you how frustrated I was when it happened, and I even tried to call the Microsoft Tech Center and they had no clue what the hell was going on.

This sneaky fucker reinstalled last night after I passed out.

I'm a bit of a retard when it comes to some computer stuff, so I've got to ask... How do I change it so these updates don't auto-download?

Zone Alarm has a notice for this on their support page. It sends you here: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cessIssue.html

Just download the appropriate compatible with the XP update from their links and ignore their workaround options.

I got there in the end. Apparantly ZoneAlarm had a problem with the last update, so I uninstalled it and now I run Comodo.
Thanks for all the help Chewers!

ZoneAlarm has an update with a fix. I installed it and everything seems fine now.

Well I tried to start a new thread for this question, but embarrassingly enough, I can't figure out how to start a new thread.
I know how that will make my question look.
Anyway, while browsing with Firefox (2 at that point,) it suddenly switched to rendering all of the pages I visited into basic html. I have no idea why.
So I downloaded Firefox 3 thinking that would solve the problem (and since I've been meaning to anyway) but it is still doing this.
Does anyone know how I might fix this? IE works fine.

I just reinstalled ZA. Works fine now.
