Oklahoma City church decides not to give kids guns

This year that is.

I just kept waiting and waiting for one of the pastors being quoted to say it was actually an Airsoft gun, but sure enough, there are churches that want to give kids assault rifles as a way of spreading the good word.

This kind of crap is the reason I left Oklahoma City.

Yeah, if a thumper comes at me with an assault rifle, I'd say I got the message.

I can't imagine the furor it would cause if word got out that an American mosque was using a gun giveaway and a shooting competition as a way to encourage young people to participate in their religious activities. The mind reels at the hypocrisy of these Christian fundies.

IMO, it's not as bad as it looks at first; it's one gun, at the end of a shooting contest, run by (presumably expert) adults, so in theory I could maybe think it's okay - especially if the prize was done respectfully with some nice rifle or handgun that has some 'decorative' value - but this is just LOL how badly they handled it, associating an assault weapon with both kids and religion.

I'm curious... exactly where in the Bible does Jesus tell his disciples to "lock and load?" And isn't the basic idea behind a gun (or any weapon for that matter) kind of contrary to "Thou Shall Not Kill?", y'know, one of those Commandments God was so fond of?
