I saw 'Storm Warning' as part of a Frightfest thing they did last year in Notting Hill... They showed Jonathan Hensleigh's pussy cannibal film 'Welcome To The Jungle' (shit beyond words), 'Storm Warning' and then the main event; 'Mother Of Tears' with Argento in attendance!
'Storm Warning' got a better reception... tho' MoT has matured enough in a year and a half to become a guilty, cheesy pleasure guaranteed to give you odd dreams.
Did a few FrightFest films this year that I can tell you good folk about very briefly....
'The Hills Run Red' was a good time spent but failed to live up to the hype I had heard about it...some good gore and Big Willy Sadler save it from some crappy acting, a couple of dodgy fx and the knowledge afterward that it had been trimmed for an R rating with no Unrated cut in sight. Boo.
'La Horde' was also fun, but it seems that folk are really trying to push it into the 'New Wave Extreme French Horror' thing when for my money it was much like a French version of Snyder's 'Dawn...' remake.
'Macabre' was an 'Indonesian/Singapore' production that slugged along for 20 mins before turning into an incredibly bloody gorefest... not a great film but by the end most of the remaining cast members are slipping all over the fucking shop on the grue and glop... so worth a watch then.
'Dread' based on Clive Barker's 'Books Of Blood' story seemed to elicit a love or hate reaction from most people... I loved it. Far better than 'Books Of Blood' and alot more of a mature piece than 'Midnight Meat Train'. It may have lacked that films pace and gory fun but it delivered slow burning, psychological chills, good acting and some briefly seen but effective and strong violence.
I also saw 'The Descent Part 2'... have to say; I was expecting a turd but, like alot of folk, came away incredibly satisfied. I could quite happily watch'em back 2 back like one long film and have a great old time.
Sure it lacked the originality of the first and I could pick apart some of the choices made for it (did not really buy into the fact that Juno survived) but dang; the audience was jumping, and clapping the gory kills and in the end if pushed to mark it against the first I would say it was a good 7.5 to that films 10. (I fucking love 'The Descent'!)
